A short comment about the Virginia Beach Republican Party
By JR Hoeft | Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010 | PoliticsIf you advocate a big tent, don’t endorse, and think that non-partisan elections during a partisan campaign is o.k., then you have to get the party apparatus moving to support every GOP candidate running, not cherry-pick.
Or, just be upfront about it, as we are in Chesapeake, and endorse a slate. Republicans still run against that slate, they just don’t get party help.
What am I talking about? Well, apparently Bill DeSteph and Toni Hedrick, City Council candidates, were told they could bring signs to party HQ for placement at polling places. They were never put out, despite the signs being at HQ for days, but many other GOP candidates were…
You many not agree with their politics, but the RPVB has an open-support policy. To close that support at the last moment is bad form.

Agreed.
I will say that at my precinct as of midnight last night- Bill has by far the most signs up though.
I was out putting up signs till 3am.. Some tea party supporters were kicking some ass last night!! BRAVO. DeSteph, Erb, Hedrick and Moss signs were at every polling location. At 10pm we visited Rigell HQ to wish them well. Ran into some kids dressed up in costumes danced around their cars as some other music blared. Went around this am to relocate rigell signs that were deliberately sandwiching Golden signs.
Hey Camp R, here I am, bust me. I moved your signs that were deliberately placed to block ours to a neat pile and did not obscure them as you did ours.
Not meaning anyone specifically, but a lot of volunteers see a difference between a long-standing Republican who has frequently helped other Republicans run for office and people who showed up to join at their first City Committee meeting in their life to declare they are a Republican since they are now running for City Council, and we know if they lose, we ain’t seeing them again.
Sometimes volunteers in this city decide on their own whose signs they put up and whose signs they don’t.
Maybe I’m a bit naive then, Brian. But I have put out plenty of signs and given out plenty of literature for folks supported by the party that I don’t particularly agree with.
RPVB needs to change its rules to prevent this nonsense from continuing. Endorse a slate.
I agree with you that johnny-come-latelies shouldn’t expect the party to support them – unless that’s what the party told them they were going to do.
Oh come on guys, Jim Wood and David Redmond are lifelong Republican vols in VB, right? HA!!
I wish I could take back my vote for our current mayor…
Redmond made a mistake, Sessoms, a sitting mayor, stepped in doodoo. If the reports are true the mayor was part of a dirty deal to payoff Redmond to screw DeSteph. If the leadership of this city had a spine they would drill down to the truth and hold the involved parties responsible. This is not likely to happen, the good ole boy network surrounding the mayor cannot afford it.
One term was enough Will. You could have done so much better.
Turbo-
You might want to be a bit more merciful toward others. Your hard line stance on who’s in and who’s out of the party places you squarely out of it.
You have proven yourself to be either a propagandist or a delusional sycophant. Why should any of us listen to you?
Your opinions on how the GOP runs are meaningless. Try your hand at keeping the new American Whig party in line before offering your insight to the local GOP.
