Open Thread: 9th (Update 7 p.m. – Polls Closed)

Contributors to Bearing Drift will use this thread to update you on what we’re hearing regarding the 9th Congressional District campaign in Virginia between incumbent Democrat Rick Boucher and Republican Morgan Griffith.

Check this post frequently throughout the day for updates.

Update 7 p.m.: Polls are now closed in Virginia. Check out our live-blog of election results and projections; photos, interviews, speechifying. Don’t forget, when you use the hashtag #vpod your tweet will appear in the liveblog too.

Update 6 p.m.: Turnout district-wide for Rick Boucher is going to be around 40%.

Update 1:11 p.m. (From Greg Habeeb): Coalfields are busy, which is good. East end of district looking good too. Going to be a close one.

Update 12:41 p.m. (From the Griffith Campaign):

“High turnout in the good precincts for Griffith. Anecdotal evidence is all good (“Griffith has two years to fix this” or some variation is a repeated refrain). But we’ll find out for certain in 6.5 hours” – Mick Bransfield, Griffith for Congress Campaign Manager

Update 12:30 p.m. (Greg Habeeb via Twitter): Early turnout numbers from #va09 are VERY encouraging (for Morgan Griffith)
