Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee supporting Golden and Clark
By | Wednesday, October 27th, 2010 | Politics

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has begun an interesting tactic in several campaigns across the country, as Politico is reporting: Divide and conquer.

According to Politco, the strategy is that if DCCC can convince enough people to vote in favor of the third party candidate, then the Democrat can win with a plurality.

That strategy is playing itself out in Virginia’s Second and Fifth Congressional Districts.

In the Second, the DCCC is attacking independent Ken Golden for being in favor of cutting spending by 2% on all non-defense related programs, supporting tax cuts that might “endanger” entitlements, and closing the borders.

To a conservative, you might read that and say, “what’s wrong with that?”

Well, that’s precisely why the DCCC sent it ONLY TO HARD REPUBLICANS from their voter list!

Their goal in both the 2nd and the 5th is to drive up the independent’s voters at the expense of the Republican. Here are both sides of the Golden flier:

Of course, this one is likely to get the ire of some because of the Obama photo, but I love how they throw in “Is Kenny Golden too conservative for Virginia?” Yea…like that’s going to dissuade the people they sent it to.

In the 5th, they’ve been a little bit more brazen and, as posted here on BD, have received the ire of former GOP conservative candidates that remained in the primary: Jim McKelvy, Mike McPadden and Feda Morton.

The DCCC is alleging that Jeff Clark is the “true conservative” and is sending out mailers to make their point that only one candidate opposes all tax increases:

Talk about a comprehensive reverse psychology operation. If the DCCC pulls this off, I’m not sure whether to fear them and what they’re capable of doing to this country (the government is not allowed to conduct PSYOPS on the American people) or applaud them for a brilliant campaign tactic.

It’s pretty pathetic to see this kind of thing. If I were a DCCC supporter, I’d have a real hard time giving to them again, knowing that some of my money might be going to support a far right candidate in a cynical attempt to siphon a few votes away from Republicans.

    Sad.

  2. ThankYou October 27, 2010 13:31 pm

As a Nye supporter … let me say … THANK YOU Kenny Golden!

  3. Chris Wahler October 27, 2010 14:26 pm

JR. I read that flyer last night and came to the exact same conclusion. I thought what a brilliant tactic. Send it out to the registered Republicans so they can fall in love with Kenny and dilute the vote. I still can’t believe Capt Golden is going to let his ego get in the way and remain on this ballot. It’s as though he is saying, I don’t like the Dems but I’m getting the RPVB back no matter what.

  4. Will White October 27, 2010 14:46 pm

This can work both ways.Maybe Griffith needs to send out one to the Dems.

I’m surprised the mailers haven’t come out earlier, I was expecting DCCC mailers comparing Kenny and Scott, mentioning Scott’s Obama donation and what not. This is soft in comparison, and it’s almost a Tea Party play in a district that has little Tea Party influence. Wasted resources and potential. Thanks DCCC!!

You know, I just noticed in the Golden flyer the guys wearing Fedoras. Do you think DCCC is THAT smart or am I giving them too much credit now?

As P.T. Barnum would say “there’s a sucker born every minute”. As it stands right now Golden is “the sucker”. He is being used by the Dems, maybe he even realizes it. HRTP has called on Golden to do what is right, and what Kenny said he would do in Sept. if polling was low, and that’s to resign.
Be a hero Kenny, stand down.
My vote, my time & my energy goes to Scott Rigell.

You people.. LMAO! While you cuddle with your bundle of joy of a pet baby Rhino just remember that Kenny Golden Fought for your right (and his) to run for office and vote. Everytime I read one of your whining comments Dona, and some others, I think of real patriots who have served this country honorably and upon returning they get spat upon. I see a trens I never NEVER thought I would see from fellow Americans let alone republicans. Time to look inward and ask yourselves what it means to be an AMERICAN and what would our Independent founders advise. Yes they were independent.

as a 5th District voter & Robert Hurt supporter, I think Jeff Clark is getting used. he will not impact this race.

  12. Ron October 27, 2010 20:56 pm

big deal. this stuff has been going on for years. It’s indicative of how desparate the DCCC is. I wonder what Mark Warner thinks of how the DCCC is disparaging his tax increase.

After hearing about the mailer that the Democrats put out comparing Golden to Rigell.. in a very bitter way, I emailed Golden and let him know how sad it is that he’s sold out for personal gain. Really disappoited in the man, thought he had more class and patriotism than that.

  14. Chris Meeropol October 27, 2010 21:51 pm

    I’ve been volunteering at the Golden office pretty consistently the past few weeks and I can tell you this;

They thought the first mailer from DPVA a few weeks ago was “pretty cool, but would probably backfire and hurt Kenny more than it helps.” When the next one came out about the sales tax, they were visibly pissed.

The Rigell tools here are talking about Kenny selling out and it couldn’t be further from the truth. This hurts him more than anything. The Rigell message since day 1 was a vote for Golden is a vote for Pelosi and/or Golden was working for Nye. To the people who don’t know Kenny, this basically confirms that narrative.

To anyone who thinks Kenny would go ask the Democrats for help clearly has never met the guy. He truly believes he is the best qualified and so do I and many others. If you think that this would even help Kenny, you are sadly misinformed. If you think that Kenny is going to personally gain from this, you need to lay off the Rigell kool-aid. Explain how this does anything other than lessen Kenny’s chances. The guy isn’t making money of this race, he isn’t taking checks from the Democrats. Any FEC report will show you who pays most of the bills in his campaign. To question the patriotism of someone like Kenny is beyond ignorant.

The Nye mailers are going to backfire on him and have already backfired on helping Kenny. Whatever support Kenny had outside of the thousands of people he had personally met has likely evaporated. I doubt those people will vote for Rigell, they will probably stay home in disgust at the whole process.

  15. Jason October 27, 2010 23:39 pm

I received the mailer about Jeff Clark and the Budget Enforcement Act. Try as I might, I could never find the authorization. Good to know it was just another Democrat shenanigan.

  16. Bryan Stuart October 28, 2010 09:33 am

    @Chris:

Really? THEN WHY WAS KENNY GOLDEN JUST ON WNIS SAYING HOW “GRATEFUL” HE WAS FOR THE DCCC MAILINGS? HE SAID HE “LOVED THEM” AND WHEN YOU ARE THE “POOR INDEPENDENT” CANDIDATE YOU TAKE WHAT YOU CAN GET.

The caller even asked him why they were doing it, and he said “to take votes from Scott Rigell.”

It literally makes me want to puke that this man used to be the VB Republican Chairman. For him to say he’s ‘grateful’ and “loves” the mailings, for him to be nothing more than a tool being used by the liberal Democratic establishment to somehow keep Pelosi in power, is sickening.

A vote for Golden = a vote for Pelosi. Don’t let the Democratic Party fool you otherwise.

Kenny’s little statement on WNIS just made me loose all respect for him.

If voters knew the true intentions of today’s Democrats
they would get very few votes. Too bad Washington let
the Torries stay after the Revolutionary War. Today’s
    Liberal/progressive/regressive has probably descended
from those citizens that helped the British Navy and
Army. I am careful to say today’s liberal because our
forefathers were liberal revolutionaries and Truman
and John Kennedy were a different brand of Democrat.

  18. James "turbo" Cohen October 29, 2010 00:24 am

Bryan Stuart sweetheart, bless your heart, I love you man. If roles were reversed and your cuddly rino benefitted from another party mailing stuff out I am sure you would be equally outraged.

Stand on principles you guys. Real Republican values that I seldom get to see blasphemed are being distorted in plain sight right now. You people don’t see it do you? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is going on? I tell ya whats going on. You have lost your compass’s. You do not know why you have the Republican brand in shambles.. This is a republican year and you can’t beat a vanilla dem in a real poll so you whino’s ask Kenny to drop so your Rino might have a chance. LOL KMA!

You made your bed, sleep in it.

Both Golden and Turbo have reversed comments so much through this campaign, it’s gotten silly.

When they are called on it, they say silly things like Golden said on the radio.

DCCC knows Golden’s impact on this race. Golden knows Golden’s impact on this race. Turbo knows Golden’s impact on this race.

It’s like an 0-15 team playing just enough to keep a team out of the playoffs. They spoiled someone’s victory, but they still wind up losers.

  21. Bryan Stuart October 29, 2010 09:52 am

    @Turbo: Who is the “RINO”?

Scott Rigell is the ONLY candidate to pledge never to raise taxes. Kenny Golden refuses to sign the pledge, and then says announces in his February press release that he is open to tax increases

Scott Rigell is pro-life. Kenny Golden is rabidly pro-choice.

This is just foolish. Everyone touting Golden’s character, what he stands for, spewing garbage about rinos. I know you’re not calling Rigell a rino. And if you are, what does it matter, when you support Golden, who’s what? A turncoat democrat? Whatever. Golden isn’t a conservative. he’s not a republican. He’s done nothing but crack jokes throughout this entire race. Great way to make a total joke out of your life after all that you’ve done. Big time fail there. I’ve met more people that simply laugh at golden, because he’s foolish. We need someone here to represent us and actually get things done. Who’s going to do that? Golden, who has been a joke since day one, a quitter, and possibly the one who ensures Nye keeps his seat. Golden, you’re a joke. On the flip side, we have Rigell, who has all the support and endorsements needed to make things happen in congress. He’ll be working along side his close friend, Gov. McDonnell, Wittman, Forbes, etc. Let’s see, we need to make things happen in the 2nd District…No one can tell me that Golden will have the ability to do a better job. Golden supporters, if you think this is the case, you’re more lost than originally thought.
