Senator Ebbin?

This story broke on an Arlington blog early Monday morning. Delegate Adam Ebbin may run for State Senate to replace Senator Patsy Ticer, who has been hinting that she may retire.

While this would be a fairly boring general election for this district, any potential primary could be interesting. Currently, Delegate Adam Ebbin represents one of the most liberal districts in the Commonwealth of Virginia. His seat includes precincts in Arlington, Alexandria, and the liberal portion of Fairfax, all of which are in the 8th congressional district. Various precincts in his district were voting as high as 81% for Creigh Deeds!

For those who are curious, below is a list of all House of Delegate districts within Senator Tiscer’s district. This is not a list of potential candidates to replace her, as they may not live in the Senate District. Just a frame of reference to show you the area and party influence in the surrounding districts.

District 44 - Delegate Scott Surovell. Last Republican opposition was Jay McConville in 2009, who got 44.93% of the vote. Previously, the district was held by Kris Amundson.

District 45 – Delegate David Englin. Last Republican opposition was Vicki Vasques in 2009, who got 39% of the vote.

District 46 – Delegate Charniele Herring. Last Republican opposition was Sasha Gong in 2009, who got 35% of the vote.

District 47 – Delegate Patrick Hope. Last Republican opposition was Eric Brescia in 2009, who got 31.74% of the vote.

District 48 – Delegate Bob Brink. Last Republican opposition was Aaron Ringel in 2009, who got 37.57% of the vote.

District 49 – Delegate Adam Ebbin. No real Republican opposition in last several cycles.

In short, it is a liberal area. Delegate Ebbin should have no problem becoming Senator Ebbin. Should Ebbin win, he wouldn’t be a change in representation for the district either. Below are some of his interest group ratings compared to Senator Tiscer’s ratings. As you will see, he is as liberal as she is.

Tiscer - 100% rating by Virginia AFL-CIO, 50% rating by Virginia FREE, 100% rating by the Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia, 9% rating by the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund

Ebbin – 100% rating by Virginia AFL-CIO, 42% rating by Virginia FREE, 100% rating by the Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia, 0% rating by the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund
