Cantor responds to Obama’s visit to Richmond
By | Wednesday, September 29th, 2010 | Policy

Republican Whip Eric Cantor spoke today regarding President Barack Obama’s visit to Cantor’s 7th Congressional District in Virginia.

Text of what Cantor said:

“All of us know that the unemployment rate is unacceptably high, we know that the economy continues to suffer and people are hurting. Republicans stand committed and we are in fact joined by enough of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle to pass a bill before we leave here that will stave off tax hikes for every American. That’s the bipartisan position in the House. That’s the most important thing that we could do to ensure that the economy gets going again and that jobs are created by the private sector.

“Now the President has chosen to visit my district today in Richmond. He’s going to talk to some folks and anytime the President wants to come to Richmond, we welcome him. I hope he hears what I have heard from the families and small business people that I represent.

“I’ve talked to Paul Kitchen, the CEO of nHealth, a health insurance company that had to close its doors because of the uncertainty brought on by the President’s health care reform bill.

“Karl Kalber, owner of Marion Mold and Tool Inc., he’s a local manufacturer that was diagnosed with cancer five years ago. The livelihood of his family-owned business is at stake because we have no certainty about where the estate taxes are going, and there are forty-five jobs connected to that business that could go away.

“The Virginia Society of CPAs tell me that the burdensome requirement of 1099 reporting has already begun to stop business formation and job growth.

“Old Dominion Electric Cooperative, what they’ve said is because of the cap-and-trade policies of this Administration and this House they have now delayed construction of the proposed Cypress Creek Power Station in Southeastern Virginia.

“The effects of the Obama tax increases have been well documented by many studies. The latest from the Heritage Foundation says that nearly twenty-thousand jobs will be lost in Virginia because of these policies and because of the looming tax hikes.

“I join my colleagues in urging the President when he’s in Richmond to come out in favor of defending all people –especially small businesses, when we’re looking to create jobs – and allow Speaker Pelosi to bring a bill to the floor that will make sure that taxes won’t go up for any American this year.”

What a masterful spin. Let me paraphrase one sentence…”The effects of the Obama tax increases have been well documented by many studies…by saying…”The effects of the Bush tax decreases have been well documented by many studies.” Those effects are a spiraling budget deficit, the replacement of a balanced budget with one grossly in the red, the loss of income and status for the middle class, the degradation of conditions on main street so Wall Street and multi nationals could rob us blind. Frankly, Cantor’s gall at refusing to acknowledge the effects of the republican decade is astounding, which means that if they gain a majority, exactly the same thing will happen again.

OH MAN OH MAN…Bring back the Republican decade, and this time leave out 2006 when the dems came back and ruined it all!
