Glenn Nye “completely booked until Election Day”
By | Thursday, September 16th, 2010 | Politics

Interested in having Glenn Nye speak to your civic group or business meeting? Interested in speaking to your Congressional representative before Election Day?

You’re out of luck!

Glenn Nye is “completely booked until Election Day.”

That’s what the Regent College Republicans, after consultation with Regent College Democrats, were told after they were turned down by Congressman Glenn Nye for a debate with Scott Rigell.

There were “scheduling conflicts” that were suddenly discovered by Nye’s staff 2 days ago for the chosen date, September 27th, despite the Regent CRs working on this event for weeks. And gosh darn it, no other date is good either because his staff now says Nye is all booked up for the entire campaign!

The latest event on Nye’s website is Sept. 25th. Some packed schedule!

Congress is scheduled to adjourn October 8th, even though Democrats scared of losing the House are considering quitting work early and dashing home to campaign.

If they do, Nye will have plenty of time to reconsider a new date for the Regent volunteers.

Or course, he’ll have to explain why he so anxiously left working a job that he’s asking to continue working in.

Maybe his campaign can publish a calender that shows how every day and night is booked for the next six and a half weeks.

So our aspiring reporter gets his facts from a guy who talked to a guy who told him of a conversation he had with another guy. Brian, when you have the facts, get back to us.

  2. Brian Kirwin September 16, 2010 13:28 pm

Mike, you have no facts to back your comment. Get some, and get back to me.

  3. Mike Barrett September 16, 2010 14:02 pm

YesBbrian, you’re absolutely correct. I relied totally on what you wrote and posted as fact. My mistake.

  4. Jax September 16, 2010 14:07 pm

Ha! Nye’s campaign is a joke, facts or not. He’s in trouble, and folks around the country are talking about it. All the articles in the world though don’t mean a thing. What’s the buzz in the community? Who are people talking about? Who’s leading the charge and talking with concerned people across the district? Not Nye, that’s for sure. Seems like just yesterday we were at 80 days, now it’s just right around the corner…Nye is simply outmatched and has too many other things going against him. November is going to be awesome!

  5. Bryan Stuart September 16, 2010 14:08 pm

So, Glenn Nye is terrified to debate Scott Rigell in an one on one debate?

Shocking, maybe that’s because he’s ducking all public appearances. Anybody see that hamptonroads.com article from Saturday?

    Here is my favorite quote:

“……Virginia Rep. Glenn Nye, who has a tool that lets users enter their zip code to get listings of events near their homes. Entering the zip code for Nye’s campaign office yields nothing within 50 miles.” – Politico/HamptonRoads.com

Now THAT is being accessible to the people!

I’m not surprised Nye is scared to debate Scott one on one. The guy’s got no substance. His only strength is his ability to weasel around the issues and give non-answers to questions, if you could call that a gift..

There really is no legitimate excuse for Nye not to debate Scott one on one. They are the only two viable candidates. This is yet another reminder that our congress is motivated by self interest and not by representing the people’s interests. It’s time for a change.

  7. Mike Barrett September 16, 2010 16:54 pm

Well actually, that is simply not the case. Kenny Golden is a viable candidate who will appear on the ballot. Nye’s respect for the voters is apparent as he has supported full disclosure by all three candidates. Why Rigell can’t abide by our rights as voters to hear all the candidates, especially given the level of financial support he has provided to get out his own message, is perplexing to me and shows not only a disdain for voters, but a lack of confidence in this ability to deal with the issues.

  8. Bryan Stuart September 16, 2010 17:35 pm

Wait Mike, Scott has already done two three person debates with Golden and Nye. My understanding is he has committed to two or three more with Golden and Nye.

The person who is ducking debates and public appearances is Nye. He won’t do Town Halls, he won’t do public forums, he doesn’t list any kind of public schedule.

Nye is deathly afraid of his constituents, nothing he does is unscripted. Period.

  9. Mike Barrett September 16, 2010 20:21 pm

Yes Bryan; he finally acceded to such after he got beat up unmercifully on this forum and others for ducking Golden. Nye made the right call to insist that Golden be included. Nye made mince meat of the a sitting Congressman, and he will do the same to Rigell who is quite good at following the scripted answers but not so good at delivering those answers to the correct questions. That is fine in a TV news interview to ignore the question and say what you want; not so good to do the same in a debate as he did at Princess Anne.

  10. James Hawkins September 17, 2010 08:07 am

Glenn Nye said that he wants to continue the Bush tax cuts for everyone.

  11. James "turbo" Cohen September 17, 2010 10:34 am

Bryan Stuart, you my friend are a liar.

Bryan said “Wait Mike, Scott has already done two three person debates with Golden and Nye. My understanding is he has committed to two or three more with Golden and Nye.” Your words Bryan.. Scott has never done a three person debate. Forums do not count as debates and there is no equivocation.

Bryan said “The person who is ducking debates and public appearances is Nye. He won’t do Town Halls, he won’t do public forums, he doesn’t list any kind of public schedule.” Your words Bryan.. Scott is inviting Nye on known unavailable days while knowing full well that congress is in session. Scott also knows full well that Nye has held fast to his promise to join all candidates on the ballot at town halls, even the ones Scotts campaign is funding that are, well, Scotty town halls. Scott is invited to Kennys town halls and he has had 5 so far. This sleezy political campaign theater waged by none other than the GOP candidate is disgraceful.

Bryan said “Nye is deathly afraid of his constituents, nothing he does is unscripted. Period.” Your words Bryan.. In order to Lie, you have to know the truth first, otherwise it is just BS. Scripted BS and lies surround this election here in the 2nd and it is regretfully coming mostly from people who identify themselves as republicans.

Scripted is Scotty Rigell. He has changed his tune more times than a juke box. Scotty the Rino has taken on Kenny Goldens talking points as well.. On the carrier issue, Scott now says that he IS concerned about the loss of two ships, the same concern Captain Kenny Golden has had for a few years but Scott totally did a 180 on.. thanks for the endorsement Scott.

Since you all know how to reach Scottys handler Jason Miyares, here is Nyes schedulers email address matthew@glennnye.com. It is a total LIE that Rigell has invited Nye and/or Golden to all of his town halls that take place when congress is not in session. Scott Rigell is quite a salesman, a clever and cunning entrepreneur but he is proving to be a total raving BS artiste by allowing and or directing his staff to wage this kind of sleaze on an unassuming public.

I stand by all of my words.

  12. Lunn22 September 17, 2010 10:57 am

I have personally seen Nye run away from constituents in many occasions.

Also, from articles I have read, it seems that Nye’s people call the cops on other constituents that may not agree with him, who just want to sit and listen. That’s just ridiculous?!!!!! What is he scared of?????

  13. Arnie September 17, 2010 11:14 am

In every election cycle there are endless requests for debates, and this elections has seen debates BEFORE Labor Day? That’s unheard of in most Congressional elections! So I’m not surprised the Glenn Ney camp isn’t taking any more debate requests.

Also, where does this blogger get his facts from? I heard from someone who heard from an unnamed source? Spot-on journalism, right here, folks.

  14. James "turbo" Cohen September 17, 2010 11:15 am

Lunn22, I have seen Nye and Rigell and Golden stick around and ask questions and I have seen.. Hey guess what, if some annoying tracker shows up, either ignore them or after you finish with your constituents simply look into the camera and ask the tracker if they have any questions. Scotty’s immune response causes staffers to surround him while he makes hasty escapes as seen last night. The nitwit is such youtube gold that the dpva pays a tracker to take him on camera. Scotty boy was so sceered last night he hustled out the door leaving us country folk to fend for ourselves with the scarrry tracker.

Show some spine car dealer, look into the camera lens and ask the tracker what he wants to ask, man up and answer you wuss. And keep a leash on that campaign manager, he is an embarrassment to real republicans.

  15. VaBchRavensFan September 17, 2010 12:56 pm

Right on and well put Turbo!

We should also tell the people about Scott Rigells’ RUDE interruption at Kennys’ 5th town hall meeting/meet and greet that occured on SEP 7th at Kelly’s Gingernut Pub in Cape Charles. Scott Rigell sent his “crew” to the pub, prior to the town hall, in a cowardice effort to hand out campaign stickers and signs to folks that were clearly in attendance to hear Kenny speak. They were very rude in the manner that they interdicted and harassed the pubs’ customers. The nerve, and Scotty didn’t even have the guts to do this himself. Scott Rigell was invited to attend, just like Kennys’ 4 previous town hall meetings. He should have been man enough to hand out his stickers during Kennys’ town hall, instead of sending volunteers to do his dirty work!

  16. Brian Kirwin September 17, 2010 14:56 pm

    Hey thats-so-raven,

Does Kenny serve cheese with all your whine?

  17. Bryan Stuart September 17, 2010 15:20 pm

Gee; “Turbo”, I guess the hundreds of people who attended the debate at Princess Anne High School were all “liars”. I guess what I saw streaming video of the second debate at the church in Norfolk was all staged.

You had three candidates, a moderator, questions submitted from the audience. You had give and take, chances for rebuttals.

How were either of these two debates…..I’m sorry, FORUMS, different than the format for presidential debates?

    Whining indeed.

  18. Arnie September 17, 2010 17:06 pm

    Very mature Brian.

  19. James "turbo" Cohen September 17, 2010 17:57 pm

Bryan, you know I was not going to say this at all but here I go.. there you go again. You lied, the people who attended were fleeced. There was no debate at Princess Anne HS or 2nd Calvary Church. Those were forums. There were no questions from the audience either, there were questions to the moderator. Last night the tough but fair questions were filtered out by the moderator so Scotty once again did not have any unscripted questions to sweat.

A real debate is a public discussion of questions in an assembly involving opposing viewpoints, a formal contest in which the affirmative and negative sides of a proposition are advocated by two or more opposing speakers. A forum is a public venue where questions are asked of individuals and the public listens to their answer. These are very different and it is misleading to keep on calling these softball forums debates.

  21. LC September 19, 2010 23:12 pm

Turbo, I believe that your posts during the Republican primary indicated that you are a conservative. Now I’m wondering why you’re even on this right leaning blog when all you do is attack Scott Rigell. I don’t see Rigell’s supporters attacking Kenny Golden. They are focused 100% on Glenn Nye. You could earn some legitimacy by doing the same. Some of the posts on this thread are ridiculously childish, and I’ll bet Glenn Nye is just loving it.

  22. Bryan Stuart September 19, 2010 23:24 pm

I love Turbo, he and he only determines what is and what can be properly called a “debate”

He reminds me of the guy at Buffalo Wild Wings who insisted that he and only he knows what a “REAL” Jets fan is (someone born and bred in New York). Point out to him that the Jets play in NEW JERSEY and can’t you be a Jets fan if you were born in New Jersey? Not according to him.

I swear, I asked the guy “You’re name wouldn’t be James Cohen, would it?”

Be wary of people that claim a monopoly on the English language and definitions; they are often the loudest, but the most misinformed, in the room.

  23. James "turbo" Cohen September 20, 2010 09:23 am

LC, I call me right of center fiscally conservative. If I was the rpvb chair stuck with having to reluctantly support your self funding yet woefully inexperienced candidate, I would want my rino’s gang to ignore a socially moderate, fiscally conservative and most of all Experienced Kenny Golden too. The RPVB is not the only conservative in town and I challenge your rino to go head to head with my conservative anytime. Scott Rigell lied when he told me he would debate anytime and he lied to a room full of republicans at the RPN, including all but one of the primary challengers who now have inconveniently decided to pet and groom for Scotty :) Nye is a sleeper but he is not what I am so concerned about. My major concern is none other than your candidate who you blindly support.

A friend puts it in a nutshell on my FB page: “..There is a lot of talk of a wasted vote, and in my opinion, caving in to the majority. Why does everyone have to label themselves as Republican, and follow the leader like a bunch of sheep? If you think one guy is better than the other, vote that way. But, is that the way you want Rigell to vote if he’s in office? He’ll only vote for the sure thing because he doesn’t want to lose. I believe that’s what you are doing with your vote, and it will never change a thing in this Country.”

@Bryan, love ya man but the dictionary is at your fingertips. Correct me if I am mistaken but isn’t a debate a public meeting with topics open for discussion involving opposing viewpoints?

  24. Kenny Golden September 20, 2010 22:47 pm

Brian, on the RavenWhine, he is correct, I don’t allow anyone from my staff or volunteers to harrass Scott or Glenn at any event. Taping is fine but this example was classless by any standards. I find the Tracker/Taping Wars to be offensive as well. If I were Glenn I would have David tape Scott but that is all, anything else would be stopped. I won’t allow my folks to put signs up at anyone else’s events. My staff wanted to have a pizza rally at Mona Lisa’s on Shore Drive because they love my daughter over there (right behind her house) but I wouldn’t allow it because it is right across from Glenn’s HQ. Civility is to best course and not the rude activities we’ve seen so far. Jim is correct on the debate piece….The closest we have gotten is when Scott and I were together at the first primary debate. The rest are forums and is leaves the voters wondering. I can’t wait for the first real one. All the best. r Kenny
