Great ad, love the focus on jobs and the economy! Good move by Rigell!
Great ad and messaging, stick to the issues that people care about (i.e., jobs and the economy).
Yes, it almost makes on ill when you know the facts. Rigell’s industry participated in the Cash for Clunkers program as did his company. If the President and Congress had not approved the stimulus, very few middle class voters could have afforded to buy a car since more than double the amount today would be unemployed. The stimulus did work, no thanks to the obstructionism of Rigell’s party. A vote for Rigell is a vote to restore tax breaks to millionaires and deregulation for wall street banks that care only about high net worth individuals. No thanks; Bush tried all that, it created fiscal chaos. Remember?
Mike Barnett ask any car dealer how good cash for clunkers was you will get a big shock.New and Used dealers tell me it was a huge mistake.
Oh that’s classic, kind of like asking executives at Goldman Sachs if they liked the TARP. With a straight face, they will say they deplore the restrictions on their bonuses. The ultra rich like Rigell and Cantor have a sense of entitlement that is unabashedly arrogant and elitist.
Mike’s new words – “arrogant and elitist”…
Throwing money at a problem never fixes the problem it just makes it a tomorrow problem instead of a today problem.Mike remember back in 2008 the Democrats said YES WE DID now you can reap the harvest the only good thing Obama has done is getting alot of Republicans elected.
Mike calls people “arrogant and elitist” and if you won’t raise taxes to pay for his pet projects, he says you live in “the third world.”
Mike, don’t ask for whom the bell tolls..
Yes, it was a total mess. My dad has been in the industry 25 years. It’s not something anyone wanted to do, but the dealers hands were tied. So, Scott was supposed to tell all his customers that there was no cash for clunkers at Freedom? Not so much.
Again, haters keep hating. Big picture, Scott is working his butt off, and has been for months. He’s out actively leading in the community, a lot more than Nye has ever done. Nye can’t even be found. Rigell is a leader we can count on.
A question for the political intelligent ?
Would it be legal for Scott to run a TV spot where he would both run for congress and invite people to do business with Freedom Ford. A mix of both political and business interests in one ad ?
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius seems to have gone over the line. Time for fire her?

Yes, I do believe Scott is working hard to maintain the country club lifestyle for the super rich and their syncophants who aspire to be high net worth individuals themselves someday. Afterall, isn’t that the american dream? Is sure used to be until the tax code got turned on its ear and the republican party actually adopted vodoo economics. All the Bush tax cuts did was make millionaires richer so they could buy fine wine and take longer vacations in Europe. The state of the middle class today makes one wonder why anyone, especially the so called tea party, would ever fall for that tired old line again. But then we have Baynor and McConnell today mouthing the same old platitudes, we must protect the ultra rich so a drop of that French wine can trickle down to me. Please stop with the drivel.
Mike, I can’t believe that you don’t like Scott you both are for raising taxes.
Yes, I do believe Dems are working hard to maintain the country club lifestyle for the super rich like Pelosi, Kerry, Corzine and their syncophants (sic) who aspire to be high net worth individuals themselves someday – probably by avoiding paying taxes like the Sec of Treasury.. After all, isn’t that the American dream? Well at least it was Meyer Lansky’s dream! It sure used to be until the tax code got turned on its ear and Reagan actually adopted a tax code with fewer loopholes. The Bush tax cuts made millionaires richer so they could buy fine wine and take longer vacations in Europe. I hope no one remembers that they also hired so many people unemployment was 4.5%. Its tragic that 75% of the tax cut money went to middle class folks who fortunately now are on unemployment I mean stimulus checks. The state of the middle class today makes one wonder why anyone, even the so called Socialist Workers, would ever fall for that tired old line again that killed off the Soviet Union. But then we have Obama and Axelrod today mouthing the same old class warfare platitudes that old socialists used to really believe in but newer corrupt socialists know to be lies for the rubes: we must protect the ultra liberal rich because only they deserve French wine and those big limos and anyway water and walking are healthier for everyone else. Please stop with the drivel.
Good, clean, on issue message! Got to love it! Rigell is doing Virginia proud in this campaign.
I don’t know this Mike Barrett guy (if that is his name), but why is he so angry?
I’ve observed his vitriolic rants, and I’m not sure why he has such personal animosity, but he at times he almost comes across as slightly unstable.
He doesn’t make rational arguments, he throws bombs, and then he wonders why everyone either a) ignores him or b) laughs at his absurd suggestions.
You know the book “making friends and influencing people”? Mike Barrett should write a book “loosing friends and causing people to ignore you”
No one can question Rigell’s business leadership experience. He has all the right ideas to lead our country through these trying times. The stimulus was a massive failure. That is why the unemployment rate is still over 9% and business growth is at a standstill. businesses still aren’t investing or hiring because they’re scared Obama and the congress will continue to pursue senseless and counter-productive policies. Our country needs leaders with business sense like Rigell.
Bryan… now, now… remember, Mike is our resident BD liberal Mascot who out of desperation in the coming conservative tidal wave, is acting out and using big adjectives to constantly repeat himself. Sometimes Mike is very eloquent, but other times he is so frustrated that he just cuts and pastes the same comments between posts.
Without Mike haranguing about blaming Bush, attacking Gov. McDonnell, justifying and defending every tax and fee in the known universe, branding conservatives as “elite, country club” folks and giving us a daily update of the Daily Kos and Huffington Post talking points, we loyal readers of BD wouldn’t get a daily and entertaining reminder of who “they” are.
Bryan,
Mike always posts under his own (real) name.
Charlie,
I do not questions Rigells business leadership experience, I question his government leadership experience. Unlike our fine governor, Lt Governor, AG and his team, they spent time and proved their merits on the proving grounds of government before seeking higher office. Rigell has not to my knowledge held public office and so far aside from all the money he has given to mostly GOP along with the very worst of the worst dems in VA and US history, I do not see anything in his resume as it applies to the job of US congressman that inspires confidence. Show me a candidate who undertands the issues most affecting this region without relying on others to learn how govt business gets done at the least burden to taxpayers.
Great ad!
Obama had a chance to negotiate a better stimulus, but he shut Republicans out.
Now Obama and Nye have to own up to the $800 Billion failure.
Keep up the good work Scott!
So, when did it become a crime in America to make something of yourself?!!! Above statements about Rigell being an elitist? Him and his wife used to clean businesses at night on their knees. Don’t hate on them for living the “American Dream” and owning a successful business now. In my opinion, the fact that Scott (and his wife) have done these things shows that they know how to get things done, and provide jobs, even in a failing economy.
Scott, don’t listen to the haters, they were never going to vote for you anyway!
Great commercial and keep up the good work!
Lions and tigers and bears! Oh my!
Republican John Dennis, who’s challenging Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for California’s 8th Congressional District seat, has a tough race on his hands, even GOPers agree — but it hasn’t stopped him from putting out a jaw-dropping ad comparing Pelosi to one of the most hated villians of the big screen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7jJI1cfEgc&feature=player_embedded
Dennis’ web ad spot is a pointed take-off of “The Wizard of Oz,” and we’re betting that it won’t go over so well in the overwhelmingly Democratic stronghold of a San Francisco district that Pelosi calls home. But the spot featuring a water-logged Pelosi who melts into the dirt is very likely to fire up donations to the Dennis campaign from around the U.S.
@Bryan Stuart
The honorable Mr Barrett reads dailykos. I read at that site 3 or 4 times a week. Strange world. A lot of hatred and name calling is quite normal there.
The Bush tax cuts are now being called the Obama tax cuts. But no tax cuts for the rich of course, need to keep that class hatred going afterall.
“For 2009, the American Society of Civil Engineers gave the nation’s whole infrastructure a grade point average of D.”
From Kos, this means that it is Bob McDonell’s fault that Virginia had bad roads before he was elected.
The use of fossil fuels over the last 20 years caused global warming to start 10,000 years ago.
The democrats will make MASSIVE gains on 11/02/2010.
Strange world over there at kos.
James,
I think it would be illegal…or at best, questionable. I know Scott appeared in a Freedom Ford ad earlier in the year, but now someone else is in those ads.
Seems like an equal time thing, similar to why Fred Thompson’s L&O appearances had to be edited (or not shown) after he declared.
Lynn22, I look for someone with wisdom garnered from years of on the job experience. If I see anything that is cause for questionioning a candidate such as supporting extreme pro abortion presidential candidates, it draws the integrity of the candidate into question.
Of course, my moderate and centrist views make me an extremist on this forum; ironically, I actually think Scott Rigell and I share many of the same views, but of course, to fit into either Party these days is to give up on pragmatic solutions in order to shout at each other and swift boat anyone willing to run for office. Is it worse than a decade ago? Absolutely it is. That means those elected simply cannot sit down with others and do what is best for Virginia or the nation. Frankly, that is the gravest threat to both I have seen; rot from within.
Mike, come on. You’re acting like Gerry Connolly now, trying to paint yourself as a moderate and a centrist. You’re neither. No moderate is going to talk in the class warfare baiting style you’ve written in here.
The man isn’t even close to being “ultra rich.” He’s got money, but he’s no Bill Gates. And I’ve seen nothing about him that I would call arrogant. He’s not out on the campaign trail whining about the price of arugula. Please.
I really like Scott Rigell’s new ad. “You’re Hired” is the perfect title since Rigell has been hiring people since he started his business 20 years ago. The only way our economy is going to turn around is if we can get America back to work. Scott Rigell is the only candidate who actually knows what it takes to be a business owner and hire someone. He knows the business environment we need to get businesses hiring again. When we can get Americans back to work in combination with controlling federal spending, America will once again begin to prosper.
LC, who has more experience with the largest employer in the region?
Brian, class warfare are your words, not mine. The rich and wealthy usually talk about class warfare when the middle class looks up and sees their standard of living going down while the rich are doing just fine, thank you. That describes the eight years of George Bush which then caused the great recession from which we are now recovering. So frankly, if I were supporting the “do it again” policies of Rigell/Cantor, I don’t think I would use those words. Especially after today, it ought to be clear that the middle class is mad as hell and won’t take it anymore.
Had to look up arugula. Us poor folks from Southside Va. had to eat greens picked from Grandma’s house and cooked with a side of bacon…Lettuce was a once a summer delicacy. On the job creation piece, Scott by his own standards talks about 250 jobs. That’s nice but we aren’t going to build any more car dealership in this environment and job creation is about hundreds of jobs and it has a dual aspect of understanding what we have in the second district and the art of the possible. First we have to protect the jobs we have and second use them as the spring board for new industry in this most fertile of areas. A car dealer is not going to bring that kind of major industrial understanding to the Second District Congressional Office. Our current Congressman isn’t either and he’s unfortunately proven that. My family has been in business in the state of Virginia since 1961, (we still are)and I have worked in our biggest industry all my Navy career and since retiring in 2004. Taking a deep draft ship through an industrial drydock in Japan made me an expert on the very industry we are great at doing here in HR. Watching how the rest of the world does industry from Singapore to Triest will also come in handy. Neither Scott nor Glenn have the experience or understanding to help us make the transition we need to make here in Norfolk, Hampton, Virginia Beach and the Eastern Shore and we can do it without more stimulus or cash for clunkers. r Kenny
ps, I still scrub floors and take out the trash at 4314 Holland Rd. Brian, DJ, Jim, beer will be cold Friday, 5pm
It sure appears to me that the results of Tuesday’s primaries reveal that even republicans are fed up with their established leaders that brought us the Great Recession, and since Rigell adheres so closely to the Boehner/Cantor line that has been the same since George Bush, what is new there? Rigell is simply a country club republican used to Board Room politics about how to protect the rights of high net worth individuals so they can run things their way. How any self respecting member of the tea party could buy into that agenda is simply amazing to me. Wouldn’t you think they would prefer beer to wine?
Scott Rigell is invited to attend a Town Hall debate with Kenny Golden tonight at 6PM at 4314 Holland Road, Virginia Beach, Va.
I’m certain that Scott Rigell will continue to be reluctant and too scared to show-up to any of Kennys’ town hall meetings. He will probably just send his volunteers again, so that he won’t have to deal with the only qualified candidate! I challenge Scott to prove us wrong and show up for once. Do you think that Scott Rigell will be able to pick his battles on Capital Hill, or will he just pass on those too?
I don’t think Scott will make it to Capitol Hill. We have a capable Congressman who is serving the interests of all the citizens of Hampton Roads. Scott would serve the interests of Boehner/Cantor, Wall Street, and the local tea party, not the interests of our military members, their families, retirees, and civilians in the military as Nye has so ably done, as well as supporting small businesses. Rigell is an establishment candidate, hand picked by the country club elites because he can self fund with the money he got from Cash for Clunkers. Will he show up at a VFW or a Moose Lodge; I doubt he would not know how to get there.
Scott Rigell is a car dealer that should stay in his lane (no pun intended). We have enough rich, incapable politicians as it is. Rigell does not have the capacity nor the background to represent our district on Capitol Hill.
Apparently Scott has shown up to a few VFW meetings, even though he clearly does not qualify for membership. He places emphasis on his 6yr, non-combatant, service from ’78-’84 with the USMC Reserves. He was sheltered from several conflicts abroad during this timeframe. Rigell has a history of avoiding discussions and he does not have the necessary political-military background that is paramount to representing the 2nd District. Neither does Glenn Nye, because if he did, the JFCOM employees would not be facing closure.
Enough is enough! It’s time to take a stand and send Kenny Golden to Capitol Hill. Kenny is a 31yr Navy Veteran that possesses 4 years of legislative affairs expirience.
If you have been to his town hall meetings, you would understand that Kenny will stand for what the people want, and will not succumb to partisan politics (there will not be any red or blue lens). The choice is clear for my family on November 2nd.
Actually Mike, Scott did show up at a VFW event. Someone asked if he was a member and you know what?
