Mark Warner has a Deathbed of the Democratic Party Conversion
By | Monday, September 13th, 2010 | Policy

Speaking to the Virginia Rural Summit today, Senator Mark Warner said “We’re at (a) moment of crisis…We’re not going to solve them with government spending,” [Richmond Times Dispatch]

This would be the same Mark Warner who Voted YES on $192B additional anti-recession stimulus spending. [Omnibus Appropriations Act Amendment; Bill H.R. 3357 ; vote number 2009-S254 on Jul 30, 2009]

The same Mark Warner who Voted YES on additional $825 billion for economic recovery package. [American Recovery and Reinvestment Act; Bill H.R.1 ; vote number 2009-S061 on Feb 10, 2009]

And the same Mark Warner who signed into law the biggest single tax increase in the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

We’re glad to hear the Senator preach a little fiscal sanity.

But it seems his conversion is a day late and a few billion dollars short.

This guy should have known better, I am sure his fellow businessmen friends are giving him an earful. He needs to call for the repeal of the disasterous health care bill too. We in Virginia have the worst Senators in the nation.

… Or perhaps a few “trillion” dollars short.

Sen Warner has simply followed in the footsteps of his “Beloved Leader” who believe it or not has given a speech on every side of every issue at one time or another. The Prez has come out for and against govt spending, tax cuts, the Iraq war, the surge, the Afghan war, the ground zero mosque, govt run healthcare, deficits, cap and tax etc etc etc etc. This stems from the leftist belief that words are all the action one needs and that the population is too dumb to notice the discrepancy from one day to the next. The Dems hope one day to perfect a medication that will erase your memory of what they said the day before ha ha.

The daily “discrepancy” is real-time hypocrisy which leftists think is the “perfect medication” for us drugged out Conservatives. A famous man once said in Matthew 5:5 : “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth”, and to coin a metaphor: “Blessed are the Conservatives: for they shall inherit the Congress”.

AND. Mark Warner hugged Chuck Schumer on live TV (CSPAN) after he voted for TARP or Stimulus. How can even knowing Chuck Schumer not be a crime?

  6. Mike Barrett September 14, 2010 15:55 pm

This is now; that was then. Had the TARP and stimulus, however imperfect, not been implemented, our economy would be in shambles and our unemployment rate would be double the rate today according the CBO. Instead, recession is over, our economy is growing, jobs are being created in the private sector faster than they are lost in the public sector, our unemployment rate in Virginia is two points below the national rate, Hampton Roads is one of only a few MSA’s will a stronger economy than before the great recession, and we can look forward to being able to buy health insurance with no risk of cancellation for preexisting condions nor arbitray caps when you need coverage the most. Actually, despite the obstructionism of the republicans, the nation is on the road to a sustainable recovery, and with the cancellation of the tax cuts for the rich, deficit reduction can begin in earnest.

MB: You just don’t understand. Tax cuts for the rich are “capitalism,” keeping the country out of a Depression is “socialism.” The last time a Democratic president had to dig out of a deep economic hole that Republicans had dug for him, he was called a “socialist” too. The Republican solution to an economic hole is too keep digging, presumably after a lot of pain and suffering by regular folks and some inconvenience for rich folks, we’ll come out the other side and we’ll all be bootstrap millionaires. Or at least those of us born rich will be.

    But Mike,

Pres Obama is out there calling for more stimulus spending NOW. So is Paul Krugman. So is Christine Romer. So are all the Dems NOT up for re-election in red states. All of your heroes in other words. The stimulus was supposed to stop unemployment from rising – it did no such thing. You don’t even know where the stimulus money went, who pocketed it and what happened as a result. All of the job estimations have been shown to be fictitious even by the leftwing press. So they turned to arbitrary mathematical equations not based on any real world verification. Incidentally, the CBO is NOT an economic forecasting organization so I don’t understand your reference. The Virginia economy is doing relatively well because the state is run MORE conservatively than all the liberal Dem states you love. Dems are like termites: they tax and spend a city or state into oblivion then pack up and move elsewhere where they start the process all over again. California was a prosperous state until the leftists got hold of it. So Californian liberals fled to Wash Oregon and Nevada where they started the tax and spend process there. Now those states are in trouble. As for healthcare I notice that you use the future tense for all of its wonderfulness since it doesn’t kick in until 2014 (after the next pres election my my). For leftists the future is always going to be so much better because their socialism will finally work out fine in the sweet bye and bye. No matter that health care quality and accessibility will deteriorate as it has in the UK and Canada. Is it any accident that you can get a medical procedure for 1/2 price if you pay cash? That means that the paperwork even now is adding 50% of the cost to medicine. After the gargantuan bureaucracy takes over that overhead figure will double or quadruple again. But every liberal thinks that they will be exempted from all the bad things that will happen to the ignorant masses because of their programs or that they will be able to game the system. That’s exactly the attitude of the Canadian province minister who flew to the US for a heart operation because even his expedited wait in Canada was too long. That’s exactly the attitude as well of Mr Berwick Obama’s new Medicare chief who will cut Medicare for seniors but has a wonderful plan for himself..

  9. LittleDavid September 14, 2010 19:28 pm

    Valentinus,

Where do you get medical procedures for half price if you pay cash? From my own personal experience, which matches what I hear reported, it is the big insurance companies that get the discounts. If you go in without insurance, you pay full price and you pay through the nose.

  10. steve vaughan September 14, 2010 19:34 pm

LittleDavid: You have correctly described the situation as it exists on the planet where MOST of use live.

The cartoon of the democrat chemlab is funny. Also reminds me of how demo candidates are acting toward the leader of their party.
