Illegal alien drunk driver kills nun, injures 2 others

Virginia in the news again.
Carlos Abraham Martinelly Montano, age 23, plowed his car into the car of 3 nuns in Bristow, Virginia, killing one and injuring the other two.
At the ripe young age of 23, Carlos has been in the courts no less than 6 times for things like DUI, drunk in public, driving without a license, (read this interesting history of this fine gentleman in Black Velvet Bruce Li), and even being sent to ICE and let go by them pending court proceedings!
So this past Sunday morning, Carlos was still able to be driving around drunk again and smashing his car into the vehicle of Sister Denise Mosier, O.S.B., Sister Charlotte Lange, O.S.B., and Sister Connie Ruth Lupton, O.S.B., killing Sister Denise and injuring the rest.
How many times does an illegal immigrant have to be arrested before he is kicked out of the country?
What makes this even sadder is we’ve been through this before, and it’s still happening.

DUI, drunk in public, driving without a license and still on the road? These are things that should outrage folks no matter what the immigration status is of the person.
I agree with Jason. This person’s immigration status is not relevant to his crime.
There’s no evidence that illegal immigrants are any more likely to drive drunk than anyone else, and there’s abundant evidence that they commit fewer serious crimes. If we divert scarce resources to sweeping up immigrants who have not committed serious crimes then necessarily we take away from other crime-fighting priorities, such as getting drunk drivers off of the road.
So, Prince William County’s obsession with rounding up immigrants will indirectly lead to more traffic fatalities. But people who obsess about immigrants don’t really care about drunk drivers now, do they?
Yawn. There is, however, substantial evidence that if the illegal alien was out of the country, a nun would still be alive.
Yeah, yawn. Don’t pay any attention to the fact that the guy’s a habitual drunk driving offender. Don’t point out that there’s substantial evidence that if the county took drunk driving seriously a nun would still be alive.
That dilutes the attempt to demonize the browns.

I have no tolerance for drunk drivers or illegal immigrants.
Using your logic, the killing would’ve been just fine with you as long as the driver wasn’t drinking.
Um Brian, that’s not my logic at all. That’s not any logic. I just said there’s just as much evidence that cracking down on drunk driving would have saved the nun as that cracking down on illegal immigration would have. Using your logic, the killing would have been just fine if the driver were a drunk citizen.
By the way, I’m anti illegal immigration. I think we need to get control of the border back. I feel that way because I don’t like the impact that cheap illegal labor has on American workers.
I just don’t think “driving while brown” laws get us there.
It’s a demand-driven problem. There aren’t, as many conservatives make it sound, hordes of people pouring across our southern border simply because they enjoy violating our immigration laws.
They are doing it because they know that American companies will give them jobs. They are making a rational economic decision. Cut the supply of jobs and you cut the flood of immigrants. That’s pretty simple.
But, of course, punishing those businesses that hire illgals would probably qualify as “anti-business” or even -gasp- “socialist” to those who cry loudest about illegal immigration.

You seem to get Brian’s point, but then drift away and miss the point.
The issue are; “illegal immigrant, multiple criminal offenses, manslaughter”
If you or I are caught drunk driving WITH a Valid license, will will no doubt lose our ability to drive a car.
If you or I are drunk driving and kill someone, the license is taken away and will do 6 months minimum jail time.
Now there is the immigration issue. This person is illegal! No matter the color of his skin. No matter your interpretation of the law! If you have read the AZ State law and the Federal Law,there are only slight differences.
I agree with you and that employers should not provide employment to illegals. This problem is also being address and those who do will pay the price.
Back to the issue. If this Illegal “Mexican” immigrant had been deported upon his first criminal offense, this Nun’s death would have been avoided.
Simple fact!
Just a final point regarding the Law. Its unfortunate for Mexico, that it borders America. If it happened to be another Country with people who may have a yellow or black skin color, you would still cry about the Law inciting racism.
The fact is the Law is not racist. Its a general rule which covers all illegal immigrants! Stop clouding the issue with racism!
How pathetic and senseless this death is/was. Perhaps it will take the tragic death of a child of a senior congressman or senator or cabinet official for the politicians to get the cajones to deal with illegal immigration.
This is the second instance I know of in Virginia where an illegal alien with multiple prior arrests driving drunk killed somoene. Yes, US citizens have also driven drunk and killed someone. But, that isn’t the point. Americans are at least here legally to begin with.
How many more senseless deaths caused by spineless, cowardly politicians and ineffectual, incompetent and irresponsible bureaucrats before the American people and decent politicians finally do something about it.

One thing that would make Virginia a safer place would be to REQUIRE liability insurance to register an automobile. As it is now, a person without a driver’s license can still register a car by paying the uninsured fee. But a person without a driver’s license cannot typically buy car insurance. Our current system facilitates this problem of unlicensed illegal immigrants driving cars.
