House Dems: We Don’t Need No Steenkeen Budgets
By | Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010 | Policy

It’s not just that Steny Hoyer wants to raise your taxes. He does. House Democrats are refusing to even bring a Budget resolution to the floor. Say goodbye the Bush tax cuts, and say hello to more taxes.

Hoyer Says Taxes Will Likely Rise
The Wall Street Journal

Following up on Hoyer’s remarks, House Republican Leader John Boehner (Ohio) said, “In his speech today, Majority Leader Hoyer admits that House Democrats will not do a budget this year, for the first time in modern history. He also admits that he supports raising taxes on the middle class to pay for more government spending. That is the ideology of Washington Democrats: just keep spending taxpayers’ money – with no plan, no discipline, and no accountability.”

To make budget matters a little fuzzier, White House budget director Peter Orszag is leaving.

But not to worry, the House is closing up shop a week early. The Washington Post reports: House members, originally scheduled to spend five weeks of recess in their districts this summer, will get to leave Washington a week early — Aug. 2 instead of Aug. 9.

While we agree with the phrase attributed to, among others Mark Twain and Gideon Tucker that, “No man’s life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session,” the reality is that we’re not all that safe when they’re in town.

But at the very least they ought to stay and finish the job they’re getting overpaid to do.

Was at the Iraqi Veterans for Congress event yesterday.. Hoyer will have a battle tested challenger this fall.
Also, a Goldwater friend was there who founded the independent Conservatives there and was quite on the ball.
