Democrats ditching Glenn Nye?
By | Thursday, June 17th, 2010 | Politics

Failed Democrat candidate Jody Wagner is hosting a BIG fundraiser in the heart of Norfolk for an incumbent Democrat Congressman.

He’s from the 5th District.

That’s right! Forget Glenn Nye. He must be yesterday’s news, the redheaded stepchild, the crazy uncle in the attic that nobody talks about.

Jody Wagner will be raking in the Norfolk Demo-dollars for Tom Perriello this coming Monday.

That could mean Perriello has to come all the way to Norfolk to find donors. Or it could just mean Jody Wagner had to go all the way to Danville to find a Democrat Congressman she’d want to host a Norfolk fundraiser for.

Or both!

Perriello has raised $2 million this cycle. I’m sure it’s not that he “cant find donors.”

  2. Joel McDonald June 17, 2010 22:59 pm

    No, Democrats haven’t abandoned Nye.

Covert ops will be there gathering G2.. The other Obama supporter in the 2nd won’t have any problems raising substantial zort either.

  5. kelley in virginia June 18, 2010 06:45 am

also, Perriello is very aligned with Pelosi (Obamacare twice, Stimulus, cap ‘n trade), so maybe Ms. Wagner wanted to share the Pelosi limelight with Perriello.

  6. Will White June 18, 2010 08:47 am

Kelley I bet Perriello will raise more in Norfolk than Hurt did with his birthday money bomb.

  7. Jon June 18, 2010 08:51 am

OMG, please tell me J-Wag is trying to make a comebaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!!!

  8. kelley in virginia June 18, 2010 09:05 am

Will, are you on Perriello’s blogging staff now?

  9. Will White June 18, 2010 10:13 am

Kelley are you back in the bottle again ? Kelley you have been saying that Hurt was the candidate that could raise the most money.Lets see it then how much has Hurt raised since the primary ?

  10. kelley in virginia June 18, 2010 11:18 am

Yep, Will, you are slamming Hurt again. I am not insinuating that you are paid by Perriello, merely a volunteer.

can Hurt raise more than Perriello? maybe. But Perriello has a $2 million head start. Perriello is part of the Pelosi/SEIU/Soros juggernaut that conservatives in the 5thCD & all over the country must stop.

  11. Will White June 18, 2010 11:31 am

Kelley you are wrong im not slamming Hurt just pointing out a fact. The establishment did a very good job of getting him elected in the primary but please show us now how you were right about Hurt. Please prove me wrong as I would love to be wrong about Hurt.If as you tried to say I am getting paid by Perriello I sure hope he sends the check soon I sure haven’t seen it yet.If he sends it I will buy you another bottle.

  12. Will White June 19, 2010 08:59 am

Kelley you better have a talk with Hurt one time he says he will debate Cark the next day he says he won’t.Does Hurt have a backbone ? Can we believe anything he says ? Kelley Tom Perriello is going to eat Hurt alive. Please tell me again how Hurt was the best candidate to take on Perriello. This is going to be sad to watch we had a golden chance to PINK SLIP PERRIELLO and now we have lost the chance.Hurt can’t even tell the truth about who he will debate how can we expect him to tell the truth if he were to get elected ? Kelley I realize this will upset you but Hurt told a lie.

I’ve got a feeling this is 1994 all over again….If you remember, everyone scratched their heads at Va in 1994. Here was one of the more conservative states in America with a lot of vulnerable Democrats in the House and a very vulnerable Senator. Come Election Day, the nation went heavily GOP, while barely a ripple in Va. except a moderate Republican winning in NoVa over a very liberal Dem.

I think the rest of the country will see GOP gains in 2010. Virginia? I would bet that three of the four targeted Congressmen (Nye, Periello, Connelly, and Boucher) will return to D.C. It would not shock me if all four return. I think Periello, Connelly and Boucher are coming back to D.C. in 2011. Nye? I’ll bet neither candidate gets more than 52%. Which one wins is a pure toss up right now.

  14. Will White June 19, 2010 10:39 am

We had a great chance now it is gone out the window.Maybe this will be a wakeup call for the establishment. Two more years of Perriello should really shake them up.Kelley thanks for sending Perriello back to office im sure he will send you a thank you card.

  15. Brian Kirwin June 19, 2010 11:03 am

Ghost, I said the same thing 6 months ago on television.

  16. Tim J June 19, 2010 12:42 pm

Ghost, as far a Nye is concerned, there is another factor – Kenny Golden. If Kenny stays in to the end and gets even less than 7% of the Republican/Conservative vote, the Republican Candidate probably won’t win. 61% in the Republican Primary voted for other candidates and I don’t see a huge outreach from the winner’s campaign to consolidate the base.

The Republican/Conservative base has been fractured into “cult” followings which make a lot of noise, but don’t have a “leader” who can bring them together. At the City Committee meetings as well as in other Conservative organization meetings which I have attended since the Primary, there are discussions of coordinated “write-in” campaigns for some of the other candidates who lost. The Party had better find out how prevalent this feeling is because every vote lost to Kenny or a “write-in” is a stepping stone to another Nye victory.

  17. Brian Kirwin June 19, 2010 12:50 pm

Tim, I almost agree with you.

I see a huge outreach by Rigell, but he’s not talking the same language. The fractured “Republican/Conservative base” as you call it is motivated by things Rigell isn’t talking about, and turned off by things he is.

Plenty of time for that to change, though.

  18. Jim "Turbo" Cohen June 19, 2010 13:25 pm

Brian, Rigell is engaged in outreach and that is commendable. Is he taking the same tough questions that he dodged by not attending real open debates with questions from the public that were not filtered through a moderator? I’m talking about a civil open floor town hall debate. Do the two Obama supporters need a select audience and teleprompters to play hardball?

Kenny Golden will not back down from ANY debate with either or both candidates.

  19. Tim J June 19, 2010 13:27 pm

Brian, I should have said that the effort is there but the substance isn’t. There was a lot of damage done leading up to the Primary. The Dems have been dealt a strong hand because they can contrast “Conservative” and “Progressive” with the same candidate by playing the “hypocrisy” card time and time again to keep him on defense. On the other hand, the “coattails” provided by the Democratic leadership get shorter as the “leak goes on” and as perceptions continue to go negative, Nye may become a victim of his own party by association.

  20. kelley in virginia June 19, 2010 16:58 pm

Last November I saw plenty of Dem on Dem criticism for the Creigh Deeds campaign & effect on downticket. So far this year, I’m seeing the exact opposite: alot of Republican on Republican sniping.

The Dems are sticking with their candidates. They seem happy. And the candidates, at least Perriello, are doubling down on liberalism. He just recently voted against repealing the obamacare mandate (let’s face it, that part is not only socialism, it is probably unconstitutional).

These Dem Congressmen have huge bullseyes on their backs. Shoot at that. NOt at each other.

  21. Jim "Turbo" Cohen June 19, 2010 18:36 pm

And the Dems candidate will attend forums and debate with candidates and answer unfiltered questions from forum attendees.

  22. Tim J June 19, 2010 18:48 pm

“Turbo”, there is always the option of a “card board” stand-in with pre-recorded answers to staged questions… kind of like those greeting cards you can get with an audio message like in the card section at WalMart… or a teleprompter connected to a laptop that is being operated by a wizard behind a black curtain.

  23. kelley in virginia June 19, 2010 19:16 pm

turbo: if Perriello’s debating skills are anything like his “listening to his constituent” skills, he will be horrible.

and let’s face it, if a Dem responds to a question in anyway, the answer is filtered thru the lib media & sounds almost cogent.

  24. Tim June 20, 2010 08:55 am

Will White, can I pour you a glass of Kool Aid?

  25. Ghost of Ted Dalton June 20, 2010 14:56 pm

Mr. Kirwin, you are a great prognosticator indeed! : )

I’m afraid Hurt is getting really poor counsel at this point. Why he doesn’t do what most do and just treat Clark as an annoyance is beyond me. Instead, he looks petty and scared by refusing to debate him. Outside of bloopers, no one really cares about “debates” in congressional elections. The Presidential “debates” are bad enough, but at the congressional level you usually have the most benign questions possible and the candidates give canned responses. 99% of them make no difference unless someone makes a glaring mistake. Hurt has turned the debates into a real issue now, and he’s on the wrong side (You’re always on the wrong side when you are offering yourself for office and refuse to debate candidates on the ballot, I don’t care what party you come from). He can’t afford to be making these mistakes. Now, he’s stuck looking bad…he can continue to refuse to debate Clark and Periello will eat him up as a coward and haughty or he can agree to debate Clark and he looks weak by “giving in” and “flip flopping.” Oy vey!

  26. Brian Kirwin June 20, 2010 16:02 pm

Or Periello can be really brilliant and refuse to debate without including Clark.

  27. kelley in virginia June 20, 2010 16:44 pm

Or when Hurt debates Perriello & Perriello asks (as we all know he will) “Sen Hurt, why won’t you debate with Clark?”; then Sen Hurt can say, “why did you vote for Obamacare?”

and what is with this website? garden club?

  28. Will White July 13, 2010 10:10 am

    Tim I hate Kool Aid.
