Primary Night – VPOD 96: Scott Rigell
Scott Rigell, Republican Nominee, Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, takes a few moments tonight to talk about how the party will unify, thanks Ben Loyola, Bert Mizusawa, Scott Taylor, Jessica Sandlin and Ed Maulbeck for their efforts, discusses the importance of the Tea Party, and makes the case for how he intends to make Glenn Nye a one-term congressman.
“There’s a disturbing trend with our freshman incumbent Glenn Nye,” said Rigell. “He waits until the last minute to vote to figure out where he is – because his position is undecided. And a person who’s undecided,
beby definition, he or she is not leading. You won’t see our freshman incumbent on the House floor making anempassionedimpassioned speech about something because he doesn’t know what he himself believes – that’s not leadership.”

Jim, thanks for getting that interview tonight and posting it! It’s good to hear Rigell’s reactions and thoughts just hours after the polls closed. However, there are a couple of small typos in the transcript. In the recording, Scott said, “by definition,” not “be.” And shouldn’t it be “impassioned” rather than “empassioned”? I’m sure you were just posting quickly. But someone may think Scott gave you a statement written like that. Thanks.
Susan,
Sorry for the errors, but thanks for pointing them out.
I should just make you and Turbo Cohen our editors. Except Turbo emails me off-line.
Thank you Bearing Drift for having some courage and allowing us this place for some degree of a voice of truth and/or opinion, unlike our fine local mainstream media sources who apparently felt none of this really mattered. Well, they are in the tank for me after all, LOL.
I would like to start my thank yous today with a hearfelt thank you to the GOP Chair of the Second District, Gary Byler. Thank you for ensuring there were six candidates in this primary race. Only your fabulous style of leadership, complete with intimidation and back room dealings could have accomplished this spectactacular feat. Now, I know you were aiming for at least seven candidates, but at least the seventh will now run as an Independent. This ingenious strategy helped greatly to dilute the vote and consequently aid your friend Scotty to win this primary. Even more, this strategy helped drain time, money and energy from all the other candidates who may have otherwise been a vital part of this present general election process.
Oh, but Gary, please keep a wary eye out. The game is far from over. I know, I know, the other candidates will tell you and the world they are behind you, but we know better, don’t we Gary? I am sure they will seek to keep you and your friend Scotty closer to their sides than ever now, if you know what I mean, whink whink. They have read The Prince too you know.
Oh, but the way you played them all like a fiddle was just rich with such beautiful execution of reverse psychology. You told them all they could not have it, since you already had your man Scotty groomed for the show. Of course, they wanted it even more because of this. I just hope you can find a way to brainwash those critically thinking voters who decided to vote for another over Scotty. Well, I have every confidence you can do it. Just do it Gary. Just do it!
Thank you Second District of VA. I am looking forward to my second term as your congressman.
Good afternoon.
Earlier today I thanked Gary Byler for his help. Now, I would like to extend my hearfelt thank you to the supposed head of the so-called Hampton Roads Tea Party, Ms. Karen Hurd.
Karen, thank you so much for backing a candidate at the last minute. This tactic accomplished exactly what we needed it to do. Voters saw it as an even more desperate and transparent move than our Governor endorsing Scotty. By the way, you looked just marvelous on the front page of the Pilot. It was just to die. Also, this last minute tactic served to galvanize the vote against your pick, all across the candidates. In fact, right back at you, and thank you for your endorsement, which
helped ensure the six candidates in the race remained in the race until the bitter end.
Thank you for your bravery in ignoring the wishes of many of the hard working and well intentioned members of your group. Dear Leader, how many would have the courage to do such a thing for fifteen minutes of fame? You are just the best and the brightest for sure. The way you have embarrassed them and made a mockery out of your “Tea Party”, The Hampton Roads Tea Party, is priceless.
Way to pick a candidate who brings his own baggage to the game.
Thank you for the subterfuge. Well done. Well done. I couldn’t do it without you.
Welcome to the machine my esteemed ally Karen.
Is that supposed to be from G.D. Nie? Or Nye?
Either way it’s written with the maturity of a six year old but you’d think you’d worry about spelling the name of the person you’re mocking correctly. Yeesh.
D.J. Piker my boy. It is deliberate. Evidently, you are too much of a neophyte to get it. Being that you are deliberately not posting other comments where this parody is used, I would think you would notice it is a deliberate parody. Who knows, maybe you will actually post this message. Now go back to your video games and censoring of comments.
Actually it appears that Congressman Nye’s actual performance should be a presuasive argument for his reelection. He is clearly fiscally conservative, yet realizes that when recovering from the eight years of fiscal irresponsibility brought to us by the Bush administration, stimulus was an absolute necessity to prevent slipping into depression. However, soon, as the recovery progresses, the blue dog democrats will lead the way to pay go, to a balanced budget, and to reduction of the national debt, just like President Clinton did. So what does the Cantor/Rigell team offer? Warmed over Bushisms like supply side, vodoo economics, more tax cuts for the rich, and continuation of earmarks to benefit them. Fact is, Nye is closely aligned with the broad middle of the electorate, and his support for small business, retention of the carriers, support for our service members, active and retired, and his knowledgable and conservative approach will continue to serve the needs of the 2nd District.
Mike, love ya man.. What recovery are you referring to? Bush trained the pooch that Obama allowed to play in traffic.
Stimulus is economically disastrous. Obama & Bush failed to prevent the calamity. Bush failed to hold fast to conservative fiscal policy while our party failed to reign in govt growth and spending, Obama is making Bush failures an order of magnitude worse.
We can agree the 2nd will be best served by middle a conservative approach but Nye empowers the left and we lack a balance of power.
Barrett, you’re so full of crap. The Blue Dogs are Nancy Pelosi’s Whipped Dogs. These guys are feckless, toothless and spineless. You even claim that one day, someday they will get real about their alleged beliefs of fiscal responsibility. Their voting record is quite clear – tax and spend liberals every damn one of them.
The tactics are now emerging… the Dems are going to now attack “Conservative” focused venues with comment threads like BD, Facebook and other Conservative forums to make them “parodies”, jokes and side shows in attempts to portray the contributors as irresponsible and immature children. Probably best to go to the Kirwin model with one liners, quips and smart-ass comments because any attempts at a rational discussion will be mocked and reduced to stupid.
That includes MB who seems to be the pointy end of the Dem spear as they try to thrust their drivel into conservative discussions in attempts to stir up and confuse their enemies.
