Bearing Drift Endorsement: Rob Wittman in the 1st District
By | Thursday, June 3rd, 2010 | Politics

Bearing Drift is happy to announce our endorsement of Congressman Rob Wittman’s re-election in the 1st District of Virginia. While we appreciate and respect Krystal Ball’s candidacy and cooperation – and look forward to continuing that through a spirited campaign – it should come as no surprise that this conservative blog would want to see Wittman return to Washington, DC.

As one would expect, Wittman has opposed President Obama’s dramatic expansions of government. What does not get the attention it should has been Wittman’s principled stand against TARP nearly two years ago. In the fall of 2008, the Congressman stood up to his own party, including then-president George W. Bush, to oppose the TARP-bank-bailout fiasco. As the Great Recession drags on, and TARP becomes a blank check for the latest Obama attempt to seize large chunks of the American economy, Wittman’s foresight and courage become more obvious, and more valuable.

Finally, but most importantly, Congressman Wittman is the only candidate in the 1st District who has consistently supported the War on Terror, even when it was unpopular to do so.

Rob Wittman’s Congressional career has been short (three years), but in that time he has proven himself to stand up for his constituents (against terrorists), their hard-earned money (against big-government schemers in both parties), and their freedoms (against both). For these reasons, he has earned another term.

We hope 1st District Virginians agree, and will vote for Rob Wittman in the June 8th primary and the November 2nd general election.

It’s great to know that the Peninsula and Bearing Drift are behind a solid Conservative. He took up the mantel after the passing of the late Jo Ann Davis and has maintained her legacy of voting against the “establishment” mainstream by putting our Country and Conservative principles first.

Kudos to BD on this endorsement.

I join the chorus of sensible conservatives who are pleased to see this endorsement of a fine congressman who truly represents the interests of his district and his constituency.
