Scott Taylor and Ben Loyola are the ones with the most support in the Tea Party. Karen already came out for Ben, so it seems like it will be him.
My personal choice would be Scott Taylor. I can’t vote for him, but I have supported him financially, with a check to his campaign because I want him to win. When you want a candidate to win, you write him a check, much like the check written to Obama by Mr. Rigell.
Well, I can’t vote in the VA-02, either, but I would, also vote for Scott Taylor, if I could. I encourage everyone to give him a serious look.
In the VA-05 (where I can’t vote either) I would encourage everyone to look at Mike McPadden, I think he has been overlooked by the Tea Parrties in that district.
I’m for Scott Taylor too. We will see what the Tea Party board does. Karen Hurd already came out for Ben, but I don’t think that is the majority opinion of the Tea Party.
There are quite a few folks I know who are voting for Scott Taylor. He has a lot of support from people who don’t have a lot of money but give small donations. I don’t thinks it’s just because some people will support the underdog, people do genuinely like Scott.
My vote goes for Jessica Sandlin. Yeah, she is an extreme long shot, but at least I can look myself in the mirror after I cast my vote.
The Tea Party has been a solid voice challenging the “politics as usual” mind-set in America. The fact that they are considering endorsing one of the two guys who stole another’s work, changed a few words, and presented it as their own undermines the Tea Party’s credibility IMHO.
Neither Loyola or Taylor have denied this fact. they have given weak responses and generalties when pressed to answer. They side step the question everytime it has been asked in a public forum.
Rigell has always talked openly about the Obama check. You might not like that he had $1,000 to offer up to defeat Hillary Clinton (Yeah-Todd you’re right. You give money when you want someone to win in a primary, Obama over Hillary), but Rigell has never denied it or refused to answer questions about it.
Taylor and Loyola refuse do the same when it comes to their blatant plagiarism.
The Tea Party is making a mistake if they endorse one of these guys. My question for the Tea Party: is plagiarism part of “politics as usual” that you willngly accept?
I’m disappointed if they endorse, but not surprised. Just more of the same in the political world.
LD, thought you were registered in Chesapeake?
Tea Party founder endorses Loyola. The web yawns. Tea Party as a whole endorses Loyola (coming soon!) and the web will yawn again.
If it’s not Bert or Rigell, no one cares (collectively, not those of you individually) This is a two man race folks, and even that is generous.
J.D,
Nope, I live in the VA 2nd, Virginia Beach to be more specific.
Furthering that I am a strong supporter of Glenn Nye. But Jessica appeals to me and if any Republican exists who could peal my vote for Glenn away it is Jessica.
Good luck to the rest of the field. Seems like those likely to win are nothing but a field of scoundrels.
How does the “give to who you want to win” strategy work for his contributions to, Mark Warner, Louise Lucas and the YES campaign? I guess Mr. Rigell wanted those candidates or policy initiatives to “win” as well? Mr. Rigell is quoted as saying he was caught up in the rhetoric and the historical significance of a minority President and that he was not indifferent to the outcome, if we had a democrat President, he wanted it to be Obama
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=36961
I haven’t heard any dispute of those comments from Mr. Rigells campaign. In regards to your accusations of plagiarism, I would say that the join press release by Taylor and Loyola was a list of timeless conservative principles. I didn’t know Scott Rigells has an intellectual copy right to the time honored ethos of fiscal conservatism. You make it sound as if Ben and Scott snuck into Rigells office under the cover of darkness and stole something.
I’m sorry, but although Governor McDonnell has come to bolster a failing campaign, the primary electorate has come to realize that although Rigell professes conservative ideals, he is truly a moderate progressive. His past public stances and financial support has empathized with issues of adding regressive taxation, unreasonable transportation subsidies, and expanding an unelected regional taxing authority. He is definitely not what we need in Washington and should stick to what does best; managing and motivating car sales.
I do agree that if the Tea Party endorses Taylor or Loyola, perhaps they should re-read the Naval Academy’s Honor Code:
“They (midshipmen) ensure that work submitted as their own is their own, and that assistance received from any source is authorized and properly documented. They do not cheat.
They respect the property of others and ensure that others are able to benefit from the use of their own property. They do not steal.”
In short, if Ben Loyola was a student at the Naval Academy, or Scott Taylor, they both would have been kicked out of the Academy.
Their actions are not good enough for the Naval Academy, but good enough for the Tea Party?
I read all the Bearring Drift articles and posts for all the districts in Virginia; and, I only post on the issues and articles relevant to my district–the 2nd. I notice the same posters posting in all district articles and have come to understand that they are Glenn Nye guys who are not able to vote in the 2nd District. I will be waiting Wednesday to see who the Tea Party endores. Although no endorsement of anyone will insure my vote for any one candidate. It is time for all good Conservative Republicans to come together to put forth a good candidate to oust Glenn Nye, Obama, and Pelosi. It is time to stop slandering good people to feather your candidate’s nest or else we will all be under this regime in Washington for another 2 years. The damage they can do in 2 years will take 50 years to reverse. Wake up! Trashing people with the same views with only minute differences is a receipe for disaster.
Todd,
If you’re really waiting on a comment from the Rigell campaign on the worst story written in the entire 2nd District 2010 election cycle….wow you’re naive. And your metaphor regarding sneaking into offices is absurd obviously, but comparatively it’s fairly close. There is no question regarding validity.
Regarding donations, the Warner check was AFTER the election, December 12th, and Louise Lucas was a token donation to a token leader, doubled in amount to Randy Forbes. So yes, you’re correct, give who you want to win. Bob McDonnell, Randy Forbes, Bill Bolling, Ken Cuccinelli, John McCain, Mitt Romney, Sal Iaquinto, Bob Purkey, etc etc.
People who pick and chose donations and use that to base their logic on cannot simply ignore the other 99.5% as too many of you are doing. Sure the YES campaign and Obama donations are campaign issues, but that doesn’t mean they’re more important or less important then every dollar given to our Republican candidates. Wally based an entire article on this flimsy logic. It’s not all or nothing, but it’s certainly not logical to cherry-pick out what backs up your point either. Everyone’s make up is different, for some, it’s the Obama check is a deal breaker, some it’s the YES campaign (not as many from the base) and others compare and contrast the entire history, not three or four checks. At the end of the day, those decisions and where people fall into those three categories will decide the election. Right now, and essentially from day 1, #3 has been far and away the winner.
This primary is not close, not even remotely. That’s a testament to the strength of the Rigell campaign, and the failures of the other six campaigns (including Golden). There were opportunities, but rarely were they taken advantage of. That combined with blunders from some of the other candidates, we’re left with a primary that’s been a runaway all year long.
Still, it’s fun to trade barbs and debate with individuals who feel differently, plus it brings in traffic. Every 2nd district article turns into a Rigell love him or hate him piece. We all know that the Tea Party isn’t endorsing Rigell, yet here we all are debating his merits.
Wally,
For someone who claims to have been around for decades in local politics, it is stunning to see how poor your local knowledge and ‘finger on the pulse’ is. Do your readers know of your political shortcomings? The VBTA does not equate to the primary electorate my friend. Shaun Kenney and I have a friendly wager in the 2nd, we’d love to include you in it. Medium rare.
Todd, Bob McDonnell voted for SB 668 (that YES Campaign issue that is so important to you) at the time. Does that mean that our Governor is not a solid conservative? I’m just trying to figure out your metric for measuring a “conservative.”
Wally, you think the Governor’s endorsement was to “bolster a failing campaign”?? You know he endorsed Rigell, right? Not one of the other campaigns? I’m just wondering by what stretch of the imagination Rigell’s campaign could be called a failure. Thanks for today’s laugh!
Todd, I believe there was an article on here where JR proved that the email that was sent to a congressman/potential congressman from Rigell to that congressman got into the hands of Taylor. I also believe that the article stated Taylor threatened JR when he found out JR knew about it. So yes, Taylor did slip into the deep dark shadows and steal something from Rigell’s office; a private email that was sent to someone else.
The Human Events article. That’s interesting. The same author just wrote another article pretty much going back on all of the bad issues she posed about Rigell and endorsed Mizusawa. I found that really, really interesting. Taylor obviously pulled one over on her as well.
There is one thing that I haven’t seen consistency on and I think is important in this primary.
Loyola – Retired Navy pilot and Naval Academy graduate
Maulbeck – Retired Navy SEAL, I believe he was an officer so obviously went to college
Mizusawa – Brigadier General, Ranger, and still working for the Army from what I understand; West Point, Harvard
Rigell – Activated Marine Corps, MBA
And then there’s Taylor. The amount of time he spent in the military varies from person to person, page to page. The reason he got out of the military varies from person to person, page to page. His education varies from person to person, page to page. His business success/failures varies from person to person, page to page. Does anyone really know this guy or is he just pulling wool over everyone’s eyes?
Please Tea Party, if it comes down to Taylor and Loyola endorse Loyola. At least you know where he’s been and where he’s going. Yeah, he made the mistake of jumping on the Taylor ship but I don’t fault him for that. Anyone who has ever said that they are voting for Taylor can’t say why, they just say he “speaks well” and “Did you hear about Rigell?”
D.J.
This not about me, nor the VBTA, VNS, or the cub scouts. My assessment of Scott Rigell as a moderate progressive is accurately attributed to his verbal expressions and support of issues prior to his candidacy; his history as it were. As for his political candidate contributions, they appear more to be business expenses rather ideological tenants to enhance dialog between his commercial customers/business associates and legislators. No malice, just a practical evaluation.
@ really: This is hardly a retraction of all of the ” bad issues’ writen about Rigell, good try though. This is my favorite line from this “retraction”
“Rigell is the favored candidate because he has the most money”
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=37082&keywords=+Mizusawa
Todd, the way I read this article is completely different than the first article she wrote. He gives $1,000 to Obama, $100,000 to McDonnell. Is she saying that there was a greater amount given to an R candidate than a D? Is she saying McDonnell only endorsed him because he gave so much money? Who knows. Unless you can get her on here I don’t think any of us will know, or frankly for that matter really care.
All I can tell you is that the tone of this article is completely different than the previous article. Now all of the sudden there are six people in the race, and no requests for money being sent to the Taylor camp, and oh my goodness, have you heard about that Mizusawa guy? Quite an impressive resume.
All I can really tell you that I got from the two articles was the first one was obviously written by Taylor. The second by the author herself ensuring that she fact checked.
I like Rigell. Let me get that out of the way.
That being said, that really has nothing to do with what I am going to say.
The problem I have with the Tea Party endorsing anyone at this point is how they are doing it.
Last week, when the Chairperson endorsed Loyola, she propped up Ben, and displayed the negatives Rigell. 2 days later she issued an email that, in my opinion, was the “A vote for Rigell is a Vote for Obama” email.
1 day later, I was at a New Republic Patriots (A splinter group of the HRTP started mainly because of the apparent misleadership of the HRTP) and Ed Maulbeck was there. Ed and his people were handing out a small pamphlet about Ed, and the 3-4 page email written by the Tea Party chair “exposeing” Rigell’s “secrets” that everyone already knows.
Now, the Tea Party itself endorses Loyola also. And the only person they cite as not being good enough is Rigell.
I have asked them repediatdly what is wrong with Maulbeck, Sandlin, Taylor, and Mizusawa? They will not answer.
Their big complaint about Scott Rigell is that he gave the donation to the Obama campaign, and took all that Cash 4 Klunkers money. He is aligned with the Evil that is Obama.
Now, not to do the debate about the ethics of these donations again, for the hundredth time, I have asked this question to the Tea Party;
If Nye has voted against the 2nd stimulus, against cap and trade, and against healthcare, is Nye going to be the Tea Party candidate in the 2nd if Rigell gets the nomination?
The HRTP is painting itself into a wall. And for some reason, can not see that, or worse yet, perhaps they are thinking they weld more power then they really do, and can sway this election.
This, I fear, is what all the “negative” news outlets were talking about when they said the Tea Party movement will not last.
Right now, in my opinion, the HRTP is trying to play in the “big boy” political arena and really, they are straight up novices.
@Really??? – put down the koolaid and STEP AWAY – before you say anything more non-sensical then you already have. Taylor invading Rigell’s office? Taylor writing articles that are being written on major online conservative websites – but of course he is a nobody, with no credentials and no right to be in the race, SURE.
@Really???, Although not really relevant to the primary, I just wanted to point out that just because someone was an officer in the Navy, it is not obvious that he/she went to college. The Navy has a program that allows enlisted to become officers without a degree. Ed did start his career as an enlisted man. I am not sure about college.
Govgirl, while you are here, if you are the same govgirl that posted the Rigel video on youtube can you please post the full Rigell reply from the Republican breakfast?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnvHMSSYvGQ
This obviously cuts him off mid sentence, and the Tea Party is re-posting this video as Rigell bragging about the donation, which he did not.
How about posting about 30 seconds after you stopped the first time?
Doug,
The Tea Party movement is made up of many people with many nuanced opinions, but it is representative of the American spirit and it will endure. As we look at the campaign pledges of Democrat, Republican, and Independent candidates you’ll find they are nearly ALL running away from Obama and on the Tea Party planks of reduced spending, limited government, and a more responsive legislature that seeks the consent of the governed and we should all thank the Tea Party Movement for that. Do you believe that Scott Rigell would have 4. AMERICA’S FOUNDING DOCUMENTS WILL GUIDE MY DECISIONS in his My Ten Commandments pledge or even have a My Ten Commandments pledge if not for the presence of The Tea Party Movement? The value of the Movement is not necessarily in endorsing winnibg candidates but in getting the winning candidate to vow to follow first principles of the American founding and then vigilantly hold them accountable.
Totally 100% agree, Joe. And I believe your post echo’s my reasoning as to why they should not endorse a candidate.
After making an endorsement, and something is uncovered about Loyola, will they retract the endorsement? Will they post these instances repeatedly as they have with Rigells?
I would like to think so. But when statements like this are made by organizations, they tend to stick them out. Does that not wear at the foundation of what the Tea Parties are?
I understand that I am right now doing what I hate to see. Discuss using hypotheticals. But I agree that the tea parties are too important to be going down these roads.
The Tea Party “endorsing” in a 6 way Republican Primary immediately moves them from the “outside grassroots organization” camp, and begins the road towards being just one more “establishment” lobbying group.
They are also insuring that 5 other candidates view them with suspicion.
The Tea Party should stay what it should; an outside group holding politicians in both parties accountable to following our US Constitution
Endorsing Loyola is a major mistake for the local Tea Party. The local GOP has consistently produced solid conservative leaders. One who has reached international recognition for his conservative political philosophy- I obviously refer to Bob McDonnell.
The local GOP, particularly the VB GOP, has led the conservative renaissance in Virginia. Going back to 1991, when the VB GOP Beach Boys swept into office, the local party has consistently recruited and elected conservatives to local office. We do have a range of leaders, mostly because there are so many of them, but the VB GOP has delivered. The local Tea Party should have no issue with the candidates produced out of VB and the 2nd District.
Thelma Drake was a staunch representative for all the things the Tea Party stands for today. She lost re-election due in part to the apathy-self admittedly-by many local Tea Party members who had disengaged from politics or had never bothered to be involved. The history of the Tea Party is that they only got involved after Obama took office. I find it ironic that their apathy prior to the election of Obama is okay with them, but Rigell’s donation to defeat Hillary Clinton is an unforgiveable sin, but I digress. Thelma voted against TARP. She consistently was a conservative voice backed by the local GOP. Thelma supports Rigell.
Bob McDonnell was a part of the Beach Boys revolution. He served the district for many years honing his leadership and philosophy while representing us locally. He is now considered one of the bright shining stars of the conservative movement. He attributes much of his success to Scott Rigell. He endorsees Scott Rigell-and still that is not enough.
The local GOP has and continues to provide strong conservative leaders. The wisdom acquired over the years has taught the leadership how to discern between candidates. The local GOP will deliver again.
The Tea Party movement is caught up in the national fervor that does not apply here. They have forgotten that all politics is local. Furthermore, they have forgotten what the local GOP has given them-as far as conservative leadership goes. I would advise them to reconsider endorsing, but I would also tell them to make their voices heard. It’s a paradox. I want new voices, but I also want the wisdom the local party offers.
Experience has taught me that the local party vets and nominates strong conservatives. When Scott Rigell wins this nomination by a large margin who will the local Tea Party support? Glenn Nye? A third party candidate? Or will they look at the history of the local GOP and talk to Rigell for themselves. I can only hope they stay engaged and reconsider Scott Rigell and look at his conservative resume in total and not 0.5% of what they don’t like. If your elected representative delivers 99.5% of the time. I think you’ll find that you have a great representative.
Richard,
I am not going to comment on whether or not the Tea Party group should or should not endorse candidates in the primary. There are plenty of organizations that endorse a losing candidate in the primary and then supports the winner of the primary. I am sure, if Mr. Rigell wins, he will seek the support that the Tea Party can provide.
My real concern with your post is the general tenor that Thelma Drake and other establishment Republicans lost their jobs because of ” the apathy-self admittedly-by many local Tea Party members who had disengaged from politics or had never bothered to be involved”. They lost because they failed to follow the first principles of our founders! They were guilty of the same things that Obama and his regime are doing only to a lesser extent. That is not good enough and if the Republicans do retake the House and Senate and do not have the political will to right our fiscal ship and shrink the massive federal government their reign will be short lived.
That is why the Tea Party movement is doing everything they can to elect reliable candidates and to let all candidates know that unlike in the past when they are elected they will be watching what they do and do not do while in Washington.
Furthermore your judgement that the Tea Party folks were sinful in their apathy. The real sin is that while many people were busy earning a living and raising a family we trusted the Republican establishment types that we sent to Washington to follow the constitution and to govern responsibly and they did not, so just remember when you are waxing poetic on the great GOP establishment, there past shortcomings contributed greatly to our current situation.
One more thing, Scott Rigell has donated to the same establishment candidates that have come forward to endorse his candidacy, right or wrong that has the perception of big money, old boy, corrupt politics that is so distasteful to the average voter.
OK, if Rigell wins the primary I am just wondering if the Tea Party will consider endorsing Glenn?
Blasphemy? Well up in Utah the Tea Party endorsed a Blue Dog over the Republican so this is not something unheard of. Glenn is a Blue Dog too isn’t he?
Is the HRTP (Hampton Roads Tea Party) willing to consider the best candidate despite which party the the candidate comes from? It seems like in some areas of our nation the Tea Party is not Republican specific. I am a strong supporter of Glenn Nye. I am not demanding anything, but just requesting consideration. If the best candidate is a Democrat will he automatically be ruled out?
LittleDavid-
Glenn is on the wrong side. While I personally like his blue dog stance on many issues. His allegiance to a party so far from the constituion is a danger to the constituion; therefore he must be removed before he is influenced by Pelosi and Obama to further “fundamentally reform” this nation.
All politics is local. Utah is not VB or the 2nd District of VA. Don’t try and place a template on politics. It simply does not work that way.
Joe-
You confuse the local party with the total party. I have no influence over the elected Republicans from districts outside of our region nor do most individuals. When you look at the history of local elected Republicans you will see a record of strong, principled, constitutional leadership.
What is your problem with Congresswoman Drake’s record? If you look at her voting record you will see a constitutional conservative.
What is your problem with the other elected leaders in VB and throughout the region? Is Randy Forbes not good enough either? (he’s also supporting Rigell-in fact he recruited him to run). What about Bob McDonnell?
Who among the builders and leaders of the local conservative movement do you level accusations against as weak, ineffectual leaders who have abandoned the constitution?
Your anger is with the national party. Your anger is with democrats who advocate socialism. I understand that completely. I’m glad your involved, but the local GOP party has an extensive history of producing strong leadership. That”s my point.
Richard,
I was motivated to run Thelma out of office when she came out in favor of the Fair Tax. Pardon me for self interest, but Thelma wanted to raise my taxes by about 5K a year in order to give a tax break to the wealthy.
I’ll be damned before I will vote to increase my taxes to give Paris Hilton a tax break. I struggled to put my kids through college and Paris obviously does not have to struggle to party.
Richard, I disagree with the HRTP endorsing Ben as well but I respect their freedom to choose and the fact that they did not go for an establishment loyalist. The issue I have is that Ben is not going to be on par with the establishment, or above, if he is seated for a while but he seems like the type that might remain accountable to the people first and party second. Only one conservative candidate makes the establishment really nervous though, you know him, Rigell is too much of a wuss to go on stage with him and both parties try not to seat guys like him that walk in the door and know what a bunch of phony baloney they have been foisting on the public term after term.
Like it or not, your guy is a backroom type so lets be honest. Your guy wants to meet at his office on his terms, not in public. I’m no psy-analyst but uh Richard, show me the candidate. At least Ben does show up to debate the candidates and demonstrate he has the guts to go head to head IN PUBLIC so he automatically garners more respect.
The HRTP is looking for not more of the same but someone who is not a cog in the wheel, or a wheel themselves like Rigell is but they are looking for humble leaders that represent more common folk with conservative values that they can believe will remain true to their constituents, not their cronies or establishment friends.. and as much as I respect Scott for his business leadership I cannot dis associate him from his vast network of good ole boys in office that just might return a few favors.
HRTP is for the common man/woman be they white black or in between, straight gay or just plain wierd, republican, independent, democrat, libertarian, TCC graduate, Regent graduate, UVA or VT, ETC.. But they do not seem to endorse big government and the candidates who they think will keep growing it.
Nice try attempting to repaint disaffected republicans, independents and a few dems whose parties left them. I bet the hrtp endorses a mainstream conservative in the general election.. a classic patriotic American with a lifetime of service and modest yet unquestionably 100% fiscally conservative values. 99% aint good enough.
Since I am an independent, I will not vote in the Republican primary. I used to be a Republican, I was even a delegate to the 1981 Republican State Convention in Va Beach. (That was a fun convention).
But after the broken “Read my lips: no new taxes” pledge and the “tax and spend” democrat policies of his son, I lost faith.
I have tried to stay neutral with the 2nd district, but now it seems like everyone will pick a candidate.
My heart says vote for Ken Golden.
My mind says vote for Bert Mizusawa.
I have a Rigell bumper sticker that I will put on my car after the primary.
While I am conservative on taxes, government and the Constitution, I am liberal on social issues. So having a DINO congressman does not fill me with dread.
Personally I think there has been too many negative attacks in this campaign.
Now for my own “negative attack”
“A top-ranking Republican over the weekend accused the White House of handing a “bribe” to Rep. Joe Sestak, as the Pennsylvania congressman held firm to his claim that the Obama administration offered him a job to sit out the Senate primary race against Sen. Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania.”
That would be a violation of federal law and it seems very likely that Obama has committed an impeachable crime.
I would like to hear the truth about all of this.
I wonder what Mark Warner, Jim Webb, and Glenn Nye have to say about this serious matter?
Party like its 1773
Richard,
I was motivated to run Thelma out of office when she came out in favor of the Fair Tax. Pardon me for self interest, but Thelma wanted to raise my taxes by about 5K a year in order to give a tax break to the wealthy.
I’ll be damned before I will vote to increase my taxes to give Paris Hilton a tax break. I struggled to put my kids through college and she obviously does not have to struggle to party.
James Hawkins,
OK, Sestack abandoned the bribe and got nominated. What else does he have to offer?
Govgirl, what is up with you people and this koolaid thing? Every time you say that people know you are in the Taylor cult. Using an email that was not intended for you is theft. And with Obama’s new regulations giving the FCC control over the Internet it’s even more so now. Since you are a member of the cult can you tell me: 1) how long he was in the military; 2) why he got out; 3) what his education level is; and 4) how his businesses are doing?
Kingsmoothie, I didn’t know that. Thank you.
LittleDavid
Rep. Joe Sestak is refusing to give details concerning the “bribe” which he has every legal right to do. I hope that he refuses to give details for another 3 months or so. I think that October would be a nice time to discuss which members of the White House should be fired and if Obama should be impeached.
From what I understand, he has done nothing wrong. The members of the White House who offered the “bribe” have broken federal law.
I agree with Joe Nowlin. It is past time to leave the old boy establishment behind and try some fresh blood. I seem to be one of the few here that will vote in the 2nd primary and it will not be for Rigell.
Really??, OK Brandy, were back to the silly article thing… Move on, stop your whinning. I think the TeaParty should really wait to rally behind the Republican candidate. I think it is in poor taste to select one now when there are so many good candidates running. Just like the Govenor, I think it was extreme poor taste to endorse Rigell now. That’s why people are tired of Government. It’s just poor taste.
James Hawkins- why NOT vote in the primary? You like Bert- vote for Bert!
If you are a fiscal con, social libertarian-type, look at Jessica Sandlin.
Everyone can vote in this primary!
Really?? I’ll answer you on Scott Taylor.
1)He served over 8 years in the Navy SEAL teams. He continues to work with the military, he is currently on the board of the UDT/SEAL Association and is a member of the Navy League.
2)He decided to pursue business when he got out of the military.
3)Scott has a certificate in Gov Contracting from ODU. I know he has tons of credits in various courses. I know he received a lot of credits while in the military and teaching his fellow SEALS and SEALS of other nations.
4)While I’m sure you watch the news and know the state of our economy, everyone has been effected, including small businesses. We are still going strong, working hard, and doing more with less. I am in business with Scott Taylor so I can answer that.
It isn’t a Taylor Cult. That is so silly. Do you say you are in a cult for the candidate you support??
I repeatedly implore people on this board to get involved. Work with the people you so easily condemn and the illusions will vanish.
Scott Rigell is just a guy, Sheriff Stolle is just a guy, Thelma Drake is just another woman. The difference is that they have applied their talents and each have found success in politics and in many other avenues of life.
Politicians are just people. They want input. They want to hear from you-at least the good ones. It isn’t a mysterious world of back rooms. Grassroots politics is a place where hard work is conducted. That hard work doesn’t always pay off. You might work months for a campaign and come up short.
Turbo-you’re just flat out wrong about Rigell. He is out everywhere. He skipped one event in favor of another event and suddenly he’s the elephant man- hiden from sight? Come on-that’s just ridiculous.
I invite people to a small intimate meeting for two reasons-no one takes me up on it-sad to say people are more talk than substance and two I believe that an intimate setting will allow you to get to know the individual more. That’s why politicians have been doing these things since 1789. It’s not a new concept-it’s just one that people don’t take advantage of. Why sit in an audience of 250 (The Tea Party debate-the best one of the season) and not get your question asked when you could sit down with the candidate and ask every question on your mind. I don’t get it.
The Fair Tax-seriously brother, you abandoned Thelma Drake over the Fair Tax because Paris Hilton would get a tax break? I had a good friend who worked for John Linder on the Hill-the representative who wrote the book with Boortz and whose concept Boortz champions-the Fair Tax has so many hurdles to overcome we will never see it in our lifetime. It is the concept that people cling to. The idea of real tax reform, but hey why find out more about an issue when you can demonize a politician for it. It’s easier. I guess the Democrats taxation model is more preferrable to how Thelma voted in the house. Amazing.
Just got an email. Rigell is up 37 points. Forgive me if I don’t spell check. I’m going to look at the poll and post on the inevitable next thread.
WOW-37 points is huge. HUGE.
Ashley, with all due respect, the PARTY should wait to rally behind the republican candidate. The republican party has repelled conservatives yet again.. sounds contradictory yet it is so.
Looks like the Tea Party is rallying behind a conservative-Scott Rigell. Poll results released by Rigell about an hour ago show that 52% of Tea Party members are backing Rigell.
I’ve heard a lot of people clamoring for Rigell to release some poll numbers from about two months ago. Some even boast that they are neck and neck with Rigell-this shows otherwise. For the record this poll is more recent. It was conducted May 17-18th.
HOLY COW — just looked at my email in box and got it as well! 37 Points? It goes to show you how much name ID matters in politics; Rigell being known in the community as a businessman had definitely helped.
It also shows that negative campaigning backfires — while Rigell is talking about what he wants to do in Congress, his opponents are simply running negative campaigns bashing him any chance they have.
Richard, Scott is everywhere except where he has repeatedly promised to be since the RPN incident where he promised to debate other candidates in a forum.. another unkept promise. Anyone with Quicktime audio playback can hear Scott clearly make this promise that has not been kept. The audio link is hard for some to see so look for “Audio from the RPN meeting on Monday, April 26″ midway down on Ed’s page here http://edmaulbeck.com/news.html
I challenge you to a friendly duel. Do you think you can set up a meeting with Scott Rigell? I do not believe you can. How about we meet somewhere public and neutral.. like at hotdog stand. Just a few of us and another candidate. To be fair, I encourage you to choose the candidate you think you want to attend.. just one is fine, you pick. I promise to remain civil and to encourage others to do the same.
Oh Richard, those polls..lol Trust but verify.. Who is being polled? LOL Of course he will win, any fool can see that.. He will win the primary and lose the general.
Turbo-
I do not speak for the campaign. Nor can I set up a hot dog summit with one candidate of your choosing. I know as a fact that Scott would not debate just one candidate because he has too much respect for the others to leave them out.
I’m well aware of the RPN thing- Has anyone tried to set up this “debate”? I’ve heard of no group that has tried to schedule a debate/forum/or friendly duel since that night. No one took up the mantle and none of the other candidates took the initiative to make sure it happenned. Lastly-if I were advising Scott I’d tell him to focus on broader events. The battle for the base was won long ago. Another echo chamber among the already decided helps no one in this race.
37 points is a monumental obstacle to overcome.
People might want to pause before they swallow your argument turbo. Your arguments aren’t refelected in the polls. You can check it out for yourself. It was done by an independent polling firm.
Others like Bryan R are much more on target. Sooner or later we need to start listening to more perspectives than a cloistered few ardent supporters of a cult of personality type of candidate.
Robyne, thank you for answering. Can I ask you a couple more questions? Since you are his sister I trust your answers. I think it’s sweet when a brother and sister go into business together.
Why did he get out? He “served over 8 years” so that means he wasn’t at the end of his enlistment because that would be at 4-year intervals. Was it an injury? If so, what? Where did it occur? Is he collecting disability from the military?
A certificate? The rapping guy on Facebook says he has a Masters degree. (Oh, and that he is going “to take Rigell out back” which is completely tasteless.) His website says he “studied”. Where did he go to undergrad? Where did he teach fellow SEALS? At BUDS? How long was he in San Diego for?
I call it a cult because everyone seems to follow him but cannot explain why besides reciting Taylor rhetoric that I heard from Taylor himself. Every time I speak to a Taylor supporter I feel like Bill Maher in Religulous. Your answer is you just do it but you don’t know why, and all of the facts conflict. I was at a golf benefit a couple of weeks ago and a lady stated that he was a Democrat running against the Republican Rigell. I tried to correct her but she swore she knew what she was talking about because she talked to Taylor. Whatever, but I understand your reasons for supporting him; I would support family over anyone else as well.
As of yet I don’t have a candidate but I would most closely associate myself with voting for Golden after this primary mess is up. I am also intrigued by the fact that your brother tells everyone that the reason Rigell gave for supporting Obama was he “was moved by his rhetoric.” Yet, the reason everyone gives as why they are voting for your brother is because “he speaks well.” Pots, kettles, and colors.
Bert Rocks
I believe Republicans should decide who their candidate should be and I am not a Republican.
I like all the candidates and can say nice things about all of them even DINO. I am not anti-anyone.
Since I had jury duty in Hampton for 2 months, I have not seen my novia for awhile.
So instead of worrying about the 2nd district primary, I am flying down to Cartagena, Colombia to be with the amor de mi vida.
So on election day, I will be sitting in this nice ocean front restaurant getting drunk on Sangria, trying to decide if I want lobster or baby beef for dinner, and telling the amor de mi vida how much I am madly in love with her.
Yes, the 2nd district primary is important pero tiempo con amor de mi vida es mucho mas importane para mi.
If anyone thinks there will be any additional meetings/debate/forum with Rigell and any other candidate then you really don’t understand politics.
This race is over with. Rigell has nothing to gain and everything to lose by engaging the other candidates at this point. If you were on the Rigell campaign, would you engage anyone but Glenn Nye? Of course not.
Glenn Nye will chew him up and spit him out. Mizusawa would do better in my opinion. Rigell may have paid his way into the lead but Mizusawa has what it takes to beat Nye.
@DJ – Of course Rigell won’t debate – even though he’s on the record as ‘anytime/ bring it on’. He will equivocate, beat around the bush, beg the question, blow hot and cold, cavil, cloud the issue, con, cop a plea, cop out, cover up, dodge, double-talk, elude, escape, eschew, evade, falsify, fence, fib, flip-flop, fudge, give run around, hedge, hem and haw, jive, mince words, palter, parry, pass the buck, prevaricate, pussyfoot, quibble, run around, shuck, shuffle, sidestep, sit on the fence, stonewall, tell white lie, tergiversate, tergiverse, waffle, and weasel – and his supporters will offer excuses while the campaign spends more big bucks on the car/candidate sales campaign.
Anyone hear Kenny Golden’s radio ad “Dewussify Virginia”? Wonder who was the inspiration for that one?
Go BERT!
Richard, Please.. ” I know as a fact that Scott would not debate just one candidate because he has too much respect for the others to leave them out.” You must think people are stupid.
So Richard, is Scotty going to “bring it on” with the (D) and (I) candidates once the primary candidates go marching home or will they debate with his seat empty? Do you not think local news wants to cover this? Oh forgot, they dont want to turn on a major advertiser.. not good for revenues.
So DJ, if the Tea party organizes an honest debate between the D, I and R do you think your man will join them? It aint over till november.
I’m not sure who my man is, but if you’re asking if the Tea Party attempts to organize a debate with the Republican nominee, Golden and Nye, I think it’ll be an effort in futility. Glenn Nye will not show up.
A standard debate, by the Pilot, or one of the news channels will get Nye there. Nothing with the Tea Party will though.
Ashley,
You state that Taylor has a certificate in government contracting from ODU. But on his website it states that he STUDIED government contracting at ODU. The website statement is ambiguous to say the least.
The other candidates state their educational achievements (degrees earned). For example Rigell states that he has a BBA and MBA. He doesn’t say that he “studied” business at Regent; he states that he HAS an MBA from Regent.
According to ODU’s website concerning the Certificate in Government Contracting, it states that the requirement for admission is a bachelor’s degree or at least three years in government contracting.
According to your statement, Taylor doesn’t have a bachelor’s degree, so for him to have been admitted into the program to obtain the certificate that you said he has, he had to have at least three years of government contracting experience.
When and where did he get this experience? I know a few Navy SEALs and I am pretty sure obtaining the KSA’s of gov’t contracting is not in their job description. Or is this yet another character issue for him? This campaign has shown Taylor has issues with the truth and if he can’t be trusted to tell the truth about his educational achievements and plagiarizing campaign materials, then how can he be trusted to be a member of congress?
Mr. Ripley, maybe you should call Scott Taylor yourself and ask him. Taylor has no issues with the truth. Based on his resume ODU allowed him to obtain the certificate. He doesn’t lie, he has the certificate. Taylor pursued the Certificate in Government Contracting after being in the SEAL’s. Again, instead of bad mouthing him for things you are clearly wrong, you should call him and ask him. He will tell you the truth!!
I also think Nye will chew Rigell up. He gets upset and all worked up in the primary, imagine going against Nye. There are 3 other candidates that would do so much better. I sure wish they would all pick 1 and then support that candidate to go against Rigell. I think the people will regret voting for Rigell.
Ashley, anyone who has obtained a graduate degree knows that you cannot obtain an accredited graduate degree without an accredited undergraduate degree, no matter how many credits you obtained from the military. As well, seeing as he was only in for “over 8 years” it is impossible for him to have obtained the minimum of 120 undergraduate credits required for a bachelors degree. If he does in fact have a Masters Certificate from ODU then it is not accredited and a bogus degree.
Side note, this explains a lot. If he doesn’t have an undergraduate degree and has a bogus masters degree now we all know why he’s never heard of plagiarism.
He also stated on Macrini again this morning that he was “endorsed by Duncan Hunter.” Now, we all know that is not true.
A consistency of lies, and you and everyone else falling for the lies is even more disheartening. Tell me, when did we stop asking questions of people we are about to elect into office? And when did we start believing their answers without researching it ourselves? Hence why I call his followers a cult. Educate yourself and stop following the uneducated. You are a drone to his lies.
Since your immediate response is going to be “he doesn’t lie” I’ll give you some questions you should be asking him. Is your degree accredited? Who are the accrediting bodies? Again, why did you get out of the military? Who exactly has “endorsed” you? How many endorsements have you lied about? Did you use an email sent to you by a worker from another campaign to intentionally head off Rigell the day before he was going to release the contents of that email? Did you threaten JR if he exposed the evidence? Are you religious? What church do you associate yourself with? What church do you attend? How many foreclosures do you currently have? How many points do you currently have on your driving record?
I would also suggest you run a background check on your dear candidate. I have done so after some comments made on here by Eric Dunn. After seeing the information in that check it is obvious Nye will wipe the floor with him. The check is telling and shows that he cannot run a business, nor manage his life, so how will he be able to represent you in Congress?
Mizusawa has what it takes to beat Nye? Except, he doesn’t live in the district, but in Fairfax.
Why would voters want an inside the beltway candidate to represent Hampton Roads?
Congrats to Naval Reservist and A-6 Bombardier Navigator Ben Loyola. I enjoyed listening to Karen Hurn and Ben on WYRM for the past hour.
Living in the district is not a requirement, and smart voters will see that Bert- the only candidate who grew up here- can benefit us more by having his family in DC and coming here when out of session/on weekends. Bert has chosen commitment to family and country first- and these have put him living in Northern Virginia (he has a special needs child, also) but being willing to come represent us with all of his expertise and integrity. We are quite fortunate.
Bert is clearly over-qualified for the position in terms of bio, and is the only candidate with a background in Congress to answer to Mr. Nye without any preparation whatsoever.
Ashley, since you do not know how to educate yourself and check on a candidate you are about to vote for, and instead just believing what they say word for word, I did your work for you. I just got off of the phone with ODU 683-4603, Master Certificate in Government Contracting, not an accredited degree, just a certificate, no bachelors required, cannot transfer credits, not approved by any educational institution.
“turbo”, also Captain Ben Loyola and I wasn’t aware he was still subject to recall as a Reservist. Interesting that I heard Bert say that he was the only one in the race that wasn’t retired Military. However, I did hear Ben mention during an event back last July that he still was taking take flight physicals to maintain his wings.
