LIVE at 6:45 PM: Republican Forum at ODU
By | Thursday, April 15th, 2010 | Politics

We’ll be streaming here live tonight from Kaufman Hall, Room 224 on the campus of Old Dominion University beginning at 6:45PM.

Participating in tonight’s forum are Jessica Sandlin, Ben Loyola, Ed Maulbeck, Bert Mizusawa, and Scott Taylor.

A limited number of free tickets will be available at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.

Special thanks to the Norfolk Republican Party, Old Dominion University College Republicans, and Norfolk-Portsmouth Young Republicans for helping sponsor tonight’s event.

If you are coming to the event and you do not have an ODU parking pass, you may have to park in the 43rd Street parking garage (next to the baseball field). The ODU Press Office does say that there is free parking available in the 45th Street lot (which is right next to Kaufman) – yet that has not been confirmed with parking services.

To find Kaufman Hall, use this map.

hey guys-I wish I could be at the forum. How’s the turnout?

Did anyone make it to the Tea Party-I couldn’t make it there either. I was wondering how many people made it there too. I don’t exactly trust the “news” to report it accurately.

Join us on video chat as well and get involved in the discussion!

FYI, we can hear you typing…

None of the candidate project their voices.. I can’t hear much. Tell them to speak up pleeez.

  5. J.R. Hoeft April 15, 2010 20:06 pm

Adjusted the volume, hope that’s better

  6. James "turbo" Cohen April 15, 2010 20:13 pm

Raise it 50% more if possible.. All my dials are maxed out, barely can hear anyone except for Scott Taylor.

    Thanks JR, that is perfect.

  7. Richard Jenkins April 15, 2010 21:05 pm

    Bert won hands down

  8. James "turbo" Cohen April 15, 2010 21:08 pm

Richard, The guy who donated $1000 to Barack Obama and attended the Urban League banquet tonight won. Keeping it real bro.

I like Taylor’s passion. I think Loyola is knowledgable is running because he believes in America. Jessica seems to be in to keep people honest about her own perspective. Maulbeck doesn’t have a clear vision. Bert is vastly more experienced adn articulates the GOP message the best, but he has no power base in the district.

Bert’s my number two after Rigell. The field seemed empty without Rigell up there. It was Bert dominating with the others trying to gain traction, although Taylor had his moments.

Bert performed best. Still don’t like him for some reason. He just feels like an “elitist” to me. I have been trying to ignore that feeling and just apply logic.

  11. Richard Jenkins April 15, 2010 21:14 pm

    Turbo-
If you believe some people the election already happened. We have over seven weeks to go. My guess is to win they’ll need to garner roughly 17-22,000 votes in the primary.

Can anyone other than Rigell do that?

I don’t think so, but they should all try if they think they’re the best candidate.

I just hope they stay loyal to the party-who they say their vying to represent.

Please help me. I am addicted to Bearing Drift.

  13. Richard Jenkins April 15, 2010 21:19 pm

Me too kingsmoothie-I’m going to bail for awhile and wait until the campaigns hit the board. Can’t wait…

  14. Kathy Mateer April 15, 2010 22:44 pm

Bert doesn’t strike me as an elitist. He has accomplished quite a lot in his life, no doubt about it. Scott Taylor has a heart on fire and would represent us well. So would Loyola, Bert, and Rigell.

  15. Kathy Mateer April 15, 2010 23:53 pm

Scott Taylor represents me with his heart of service and passion for America the best. That’s all I have to say about this. He will fight for us.

I just listened to the start of the video…it appears that our efforts to take the audio directly off the board failed and you were listening to the laptop’s microphone. Ugh.

When we looked at the volume meter on Ustream, it looked good during set up, but it was probably just hearing our voices nearby to the computer.

    Sorry!

  17. Jay D April 16, 2010 09:51 am

JR – I watched forum via web last night and send compliments. Very well done and informative.

Obvious, by the back and forth, these candidates have a mutual regard and respect for each other. Loved the format and loved the set up. First real opportunity I’ve had to see candidates ‘in discussion’ with each other and with the public.

Kudos and thanks again for all the hard work and passion that goes into what you do. BD fans are most appreciative!

I agree with Jay D. Kudos, J.R. I am sure it was more work than anyone knows, and we appreciate it.
