Matthew Berry added to NRCC’s Young Guns program
By Alan Moore | Friday, April 9th, 2010 | Politics8th district congressional candidate Matthew Berry just announced that he has been added to the National Republican Congressional Committee’s (NRCC) Young Guns program.
The NRCC describes the program “as the candidate recruitment and training program for House Republicans and it is designed to assist Republican candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives build a foundation for victory.” Eric Cantor (VA-7th) founded the program in 2007.
There are 3 levels in the program: “On the Radar,” “Contenders,” and “Young Guns.” Berry joins fellow Virginian Morgan Griffith (9th) at the “On the Radar” Level. Scott Rigell (2nd) and Keith Fimian (11th) are other Virginians in the program; they are at the “Contenders” level.
Berry is challenging Jim Moran (D) who was first elected in 1991. Moran hasn’t been seriously challenged since being elected in the heavily Democratic district.
For the NRCC to target the 8th as a possible pickup is no small matter.
Mr. Berry made the following statement in his announcement:
“Our campaign’s enrollment in the Young Guns program is a direct acknowledgment by the Party that not only are we executing a plan that can win, but that we are conducting our campaign in the right way. I cannot tell you how pleased and honored I am by this recognition.
“If I am the Republican nominee, the 8th District won’t be an afterthought this fall as it has been in past elections. Rather, we will be in the middle of the fight to take back control of Congress.”

This big news! Congrats to Berry!
Can you tell me where on the Top Guns website they list Matthew? From his email it sounds like he is applying because I can not find him on their list of candidates.
I am so sick and tired of Jim Moron. We HAVE to vote him out!
