New challenger enters race in 11th district
By | Thursday, April 8th, 2010 | Politics

The race to challenge Rep. Gerry Connolly (D) in the 11th Congressional district just got a little bigger. Local businessman Kurt Riesenberg has jumped into the race for the Republican nomination with Pat Herrity and Keith Fimian.

Kurt is the President and Executive Director of the Fairfax based Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance. According to his website, “he provides U.S. leadership for the business of the association focusing upon promotion of high-performance roofing and insulation materials, energy efficiency, environmental stewardship, safe-use and handling, and quality in materials and application.”

In explaining his reasoning for entering the race he said, “I am competing to be your Congressman for the 11th District of Virginia. I am not a politician. I am a successful professional, a husband and a father. I am jumping into the Republican primary race at the 11th hour. I have at least two immediate competitors that are both better funded and recognized – neither of which are qualifiers for the position. I have an eventual competitor in November that is a seasoned politician and bureaucrat, and benefits from the advantageous position of incumbency. But I still think I am going to win.”

You can learn more about him at his website.

Mr. Riesenberg also addressed the Prince William County Convention on March 27th.

“I still think I am going to win” = “I’ve locked up the votes from the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus, so my momentum is huge!”

He seems like a nice enough guy, but last I heard he hadn’t even filed his paperwork in order to qualify as a candidate. This candidacy is a rather boring joke, and utterly pointless.

    Greg,
Not sure what you heard that made you think this guy was in La La Land, but he seems to have his act together. I’m in the 2d District and can only surmise that you must be connected to one of the other candidates.
FWIW, I can’t vote for this guy, but I liked everything he said and would want to hear more. It’s really time that we take a hard look at the new faces on the scene and divest ourselves, our Congress and our party of all the elitists out there. As a party, we squandered 8 years and are paying dearly for it now. Just thought you’d benefit from an entirely objective position.

This guy will draw some attention. I wouldn’t underestimate his ability to connect. I liked what I heard.

He’s already more qualified than Herrity. He’s created some real jobs. Herrity just hires campaign staff.
