Republicans and Democrats working together for the greater good?
By | Friday, April 2nd, 2010 | Uncategorized

Maybe on this Good Friday, after some of us have become more jaded about politics as the week has progressed, it’s a good time to remind one another that we all do really want to follow the “golden rule”.

On Monday, Democrats from Virginia Beach and 2nd District Republican Congressional candidates came together to work for the Southeastern Foodbank and their “Backpack” program.

The program is where backpacks are stuffed full of non-perishable food items, such as granola bars and canned ravioli, ensuring that children, who do not have access to any school lunch programs on holidays (such as spring break next week), will be able to eat.

Democrats and Republicans brought in food for the program on Monday and did some of the “heavy lifting” to get the food loaded into vans for distribution.

Kudos to the foodbank and to the volunteers for continuing to fight hunger in our community.

So, let me get this straight, the Democrats and the Republicans, they worked together?
    When do the purges begin?

The Foodbank and Kids Cafe are excellent programs, and so is the one we visited on Monday for them: The Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Virginia off Rosemont Road. My kids and I stayed for a couple of hours and enjoyed the kids, the facilities and the staff. The program they run is exceptional on any level.

This is a worthwhile cause for donations, as they are trying to build a teen center on the site. The work Mr. R does here with teens- let’s just say I wish we could clone him and put him in every middle and high school in America. With programs like this, we could dramatically reduce teen pregnancy and STDs, dropouts, depression, suicide, bullying, and issues with self-esteem. Kudos to the Club.
