Ball closer to magic number of delegates in 1st
By JR Hoeft | Sunday, March 28th, 2010 | PoliticsCandidate for the Democratic Congressional nomination in the First District, Krystal Ball, received more good news yesterday when her delegate count jumped to 79 of the 101 needed to secure the nomination.
“It is the widely held belief nationally and throughout the district that our momentum cannot be stopped ,” said the Ball campaign in a recent statement.
Lancaster County (4 delegates), Essex County (3), Hampton City (17) and Spotsylvania (23) will be holding caucuses between now and April 6, so she could secure the nomination in the next few days. First District Democrats will hold their convention in Fredericksburg on May 8.
Ball, of King George County, is facing Scott Robinson of Tappahannock for the right to challenge incumbent Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Westmoreland) who won with 57% of the vote in 2008.

Moving outside of a political comment, you’ve go to admit she is better looking than Rob Wittman or Scott Robinson.
Krystal Ball? Is that her stage name or real name?
Many years ago there was a fortune teller down on Granby Street in Norfolk, before it was revitalized, with the same name. Maybe some relation?
Two Dems fighting to lose…what a waste of time and money
Being the only female in the race at least on my part its not like she has any competition… besides her eyes are too far apart. ick.
Oh come on… you people didn’t mock the name “Filler-Corn” when you had the chance to.
No thats a American Indian name… no fun mocking heritage, but ugly thats fair game.
Really, Lee? Let’s not be too disparaging of the soon-to-be Democratic nominee. She is advocating on behalf of thousands of voters in the First District. While I don’t agree with her policies, I do respect the charge that she has been given.
Well said, J.R.
people gave Nixon a hard time for his looks. People voted for Kennedy for his. Peoples looks actually do play a role in how they vote. Sad but true. It’s not about disrespecting her charge… though if she got thousands with a “s” in votes Id be shocked. Rob Wittman is just to good. Besides she’s better off than Crazy Crabil… She’s ugly and batshit crazy…
besides who here first saw Sarah Palin and thought wow I really like her policy position on issue “x”. Maybe afterwards but not right away… ; )
Lee,
When was the last Congressional candidate of a major party that you knew of to get less than 2,000 votes in the general?
Don’t be a jerk.
Never take an opponent for granted we did that in 2006, + a stupid mess up and we ended up with Senator Webb. I for one intend to keep MY Congressman, so long shot or not I will be working my tail off to make sure Ms. Ball never gets anywhere near DC.
Jim,
Was thinking tens of thousands of votes
No not trying to be a jerk but maybe a lil too blunt… I do apologize.
Govgirl: All well and good from a partisan perspective. That’s the attitude that the Repubs SHOULD have. But from an objective perspective, it is just not possible for ANY Dem to win the 1st District as it’s currently configured. It makes as little sense for Dems to waste money here as it would for the Repubs to spend a lot in the 3rd.
