Health Care Reform to increase domestic abuse and PMS while shredding the Constitution
By Ron Watrous | Saturday, March 20th, 2010 | PolicyThe soothsayer admonished Julius Caesar to, “beware the ides of March,” but Brutus has nothing on the Obama-Reid-Pelosi triumvirate that has edged closer to fomenting a Constitutional crisis with the House adoption of the Slaughter Rule. The House continues toward a “procedure” vote Sunday that would ‘deem’ the Senate health reform package as having ‘passed’ in the House without actually voting on the measure itself as if Americans are too dumb to understand that a vote to change the House procedures will equal a vote in favor of the Senate legislation.
Harry Reid recently pointed out that as unemployment has climbed, domestic abuse has increased. Of course, unemployed men are more violent than unemployed women. Reid should be very concerned about health care reform increasing domestic abuse. One provision President Obama wants included is a tax on investments that the Heritage Foundation estimates will cost an average of 115,000 jobs per year…a staggering number considering that it stems from just one of the new proposed taxes. New taxes on medical equipment like wheel-chairs, prescription drugs and business growth combined with reduced reimbursements to medical practitioners will multiply job losses in the private sector…opportunities for more domestic abuse abound! Just imagine all those former surgeons gone violent vis-à-vis Hannibal Lecter.
Hope is on the horizon, though. Nancy Pelosi claims health care reform would create 400,000 new jobs immediately. Destroying 2-3 private sector jobs in order to give birth to yet another unneeded government bureaucrat could only make sense inside the belt-way. One must wonder, though, would Pelosi make such a claim without knowing where the 400,000 new jobs would be and whether or not the funding is available?
With over 160 new government bureaucracies jammed into the legislation and more than $400 Billion left in unspent stimulus funds at their disposal, it is possible this initiative is the next big government job generator. First Washington hires half-a-million term-employees for the census (that will mean an up-tick in the jobs numbers in an upcoming report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics), then the 400,000 new health-care positions roll-out before the end of this fiscal year (possibly the real motivator driving the health care-reform time-table?). It is interesting that the planned $500-billion reduction in Medicare and unexpended stimulus funds are nearly even. Bernie Madoff probably calculated the ‘deficit neutral’ approach for the House Majority. “None” of these new bureaucracies and government jobs will end up in key districts in time for the November elections, right? That would just be CRAZY.
Pelosi also pointed out that the legislation not only addresses health-care, but health.
“But I don’t know if you have heard that it is legislation for the future, not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America, where preventive care is not something that you have to pay a deductible for or out of pocket. Prevention, prevention, prevention–it’s about diet, not diabetes. It’s going to be very, very exciting. But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.”
I can’t wait to see the “don’t legislate your morality” and “keep you laws off my body” pro-abortion crowd respond to having their stomachs regulated.
Picture this idea put into practice; a woman walks into a center for women’s health (passing by the numerous domestic-abuse victims needing splints and bandages complaining about boyfriends and husbands looking for jobs). During sign-in, she is informed she has been randomly selected for a body mass index measurement. It’s that time of the month and she’s just indulged in some Godiva chocolate to take the edge off.
“I’m sorry ma’am, but you’re outside of your ideal target. I realize you are here for birth-control, but we’re referring you to the nutritionist for a diet prescription. Please hand over the chocolate and step through door number six and remember non-compliance will result in a fine and/or prison to help you meet your BMI goal. Remember, we all must work to save our limited health care dollars! Have a nice day.”
Pelosi said health reform is going to be “exciting.” As a man, I can’t think of anything more ‘exciting’ than advising a woman about her diet and weight during an inopportune time in her cycle…and all it will take to make that cage-match happen is combining the Constitution and a shredder!

According to the article referenced, the 400,000 new jobs is a bogus number from a flawed study. However, there will be many tens of thousands of Government jobs added just to deal with this new entitlement.
A huge problem is that a Federal Government that is dramatically increasing in size doesn’t pay local business taxes, nor can a municipality levy fees and taxes against capital equipment, offices, land or any other aspect of a Federal presence in a county or municipality which a private business would normally pay. This revenue burden is shifted either to the surviving businesses and to taxes and fees that the municipality can collect or severe and drastic cuts are made to core and collateral services. This is probably good to help prioritize “nice to have” vs “got to have” services but as revenue continues to deteriorate, core services are eventually affected. Pressure is put on raising property taxes, gasoline/heating oil, electricity, tolls, etc. which directly affect all of us and then people start leaving which makes it worse.
No wonder there is so much stress on states as the Federal Government increases employment, the private sector decreases employment and businesses either move or go under. Not to mention as the Feds move to take over the rest of our economy and continue to force unfunded mandates such as Medicaid on the States, we all will eventually become wards of what used to be our Country.
Tim, how will this really effect our economy that has always been based by a strong foundation of small businesses. How will they survive? What will happen to the unemployment rate? Sure, we will have more government jobs, but how will the private sector be able to support it? Will it be tax, “fee” and spend the small business out of business?
Kathy, answers to your questions are the “unintended consequences” which are on the other side of mountain we are sliding down right now. The broad generalities of good and bad, for and against are political talking points right now which have no connection to reality. When the reality finally hits us, that is where the real “transformation” will take place because the rest of us have to figure out how to live with it.
Those of us who are soldiers and veterans who fought and are fighting for this country, didn’t take the oath to “defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic”, to see it shredded for social justice and a health care entitlement program.
We now have a Congress and a President which are becoming a domestic enemy of the people in circumstances that are not unlike the Parliament and a King from which our ancestors liberated themselves.
Tim, that is why I have said on this blog:

Considering the taxes and “fees” that will fly through the roof for people and businesses to pay for health care even for illegal aliens, can we all say TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION?
If we as Republicans aren’t careful, there may be another party coming soon to compete with when it comes to votes. Can we all say Tea Party? Smart men and women in government are listening. Unfortunately, not all are so smart.
