Steven Osborne | March 14, 2010 | Comments (8)

The Weekly Standard reports that Congressman Rick Boucher will be voting against the Healthcare plan that Obama has put forward.  He seems to realize that reelection may not be an absolute surety.

Now-what will Perriello and Nye do?

  1. Tim J says:

For some Democrats the political survival instinct is stronger than following Pelosi off the ideological cliff in a political mass suicide. With all the wheeling and dealing behind closed doors going on up there since last week, I wonder what other smarmy deals will eventually be exposed?

  2. Lee Talley says:

This is why you make every race count. If he didn’t have an opponent like Morgan Griffith he’d be voting yes. Way to go Griffith for Congress this is your first victory!

  3. JR Hoeft says:

Lee – you couldn’t be more right. Elections bring forward a whole new level of accountability. Nice job, Morgan!

  4. William Bailey says:

Politics isn’t supposed to be a long term career… That is part of the problem.

  5. kelley in virginia says:

someone commented that ever since Scott Brown won in MA, Perriello has been voting conservatively. but he introduces bills designed for govt. control & expenditure often–that action also signals his intentions/his leanings.

Perriello is a true believer. I bet he votes YES. i am not sure if that vote would move his poll #s one way or the other.

  6. Greg says:

Lee and JR nailed it above. Boucher was almost certain to switch to a YES vote until his political future was in jeopardy. Whatever happens with Morgan in the 9th, his willingness to step up and take on Boucher is already paying off. We have to honor his commitment by doing everything we can to help him finish the job. Remember, no matter how Boucher votes on health care, he voted for the stimulus, for cap and trade, to raise the debt ceiling, for Pelosi as Speaker, etc. etc. The man simply needs to go.

  7. kelley in virginia says:

greg, you are right about getting rid of Boucher. and we need help in the 5th CD getting rid of Perriello. Let’s hope Hurt’s footsteps are loud enough to get him to vote “NO” on healthcare, but if he is so damn arrogant & votes YES in contravention of his constituents wishes, then we need to rally together & vote him out of our 5th district lives.

  8. Venu says:

Stick to your guns and do what you think is right, regardless of the electoral consequences. Boucher should vote regardless of reelection and do what he believes is right, whatever that may be. All I can say is that I hope his vote is a reflection of his own conscience and not that of Pelosi’s or electoral consequences.
