The Virginia Pilot poll used the term “unlicensed dealers” rather than “private individuals”. I wonder if the results would have differed. You can sell your car to anyone, but you should be restricted and regulated on selling your gun. Which is more dangerous? The car. What is the source that indicates that a “vast majority” of Virginians favor the one gun a month law?

Speaking as a transplant from the socialist state of NY, I have suggestion. Rather than a “1 NYer a month law” how about they all have to pass an ideological compatibility test to move here? Cause me (and my family) all fled NY because we were tired of liberal do-gooder policies, high taxes and ridiculous regulation. I love it here, and consider myself more of a Virginian then I ever did a NYer.

Who are the idiots who even continue to rant about a “gun show loophole”?

It doesn’t exist and hasn’t for some time. The ability of an individual to sell to another individual their gun, car, etc. is not controlled, but those liscensed dealers at the gun shows run a check on every single individual that purchases a weapon. As a matter of fact, the ONLY weapon ever sold to me without a background check was from a New Yorker who had inherited a warehouse and found some firearms there.

No one can help the New Yorkers whose police department can’t even train well enough to hit the broad side of a barn. I believe the statistics were less than 50% hit rate at 7 yards, yes, at 7 yards (49%). There were also 24 incidents of accidental discharges and 25 shots were fired. I guess one guy wanted to make sure he logged the AD. These kind of statistics are published annually on yor own local Poice Departments. Check it out.

New Yorkers aren’t really the enemy, unless they try to take away my 2nd amendment rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights to the US Constitution.

“guns that committed the crime in question…” which is the biggest problem for guns… they keep committing crimes and they need to be stopped. States like New York which have gun problems need to pass laws against guns committing crimes and then enforce them and that will solve all of their gun crime problems.

Guns don’t have constitutional rights and can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Or now maybe they do since when it is convenient, we seem to be bestowing constitutional rights (health care) and giving constitutional protection to almost everything and anyone these days.

Ward, I propose further that you can’t marry a New Yorker if you have a felony conviction. No New Yorkers in a school zone either! New Yorkers trying to be sneaky by hiding their accents must hold a permit to go concealed.

I just don’t want them damn New Yorkers coming down here and having babies and then thinking they’re entitled to stay here. They already pollute our culture with their New York Style Pizza. When you next buy steak, I want you to boycott New York by not ordering the New York strip.

That’ll teach ‘em!

Next thing you know, the ATM machines and automated phone services will ask you to press #3 for a Brooklyn accent!

This native New Yorker who has been paying taxes in Virginia for 13 years (which gives me the right to tell the pea-brained posters above to shove it where the sun don’t shine) decided to read the NYT editorial in question. Seems the writers pointed out that a vast majority of Virginians favor the one gun a month purchase law and oppose the gun show loophole. What a bunch of a$$holes, pointing out the facts like that. Save the anecdotes and ad hominens, folks. This issue is about right and wrong. And all of the above are wrong.

Why would “one New Yorker a month” be a tongue in cheek proposal. Seems mild to me, how about “one New Yorker a lifetime?” If you happen to fall in love with one and bring them back here, well you can’t legislate against fate. Otherwise, they are contraband.
