Family Research Council President Tony Perkins was not allowed to speak at a military event at Andrews Air Force base due to his opposition to repealing the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. The letter that was written to him explaining his uninvited status, indicated that the chaplains could not endorse statements contrary to the Commander-in-Chief’s opinions.
I do not blame the chaplains here, nor does Tony Perkins. However, there is no indication that Mr. Perkins even intended to discuss politics at all during his visit. Yet because he holds a differing view from President Obama concerning DADT he is ostracized. It should be worth noting that Tony Perkins is a former United States Marine.
This is also a demonstration of what the consequences of redefining public morality are. The attitude displayed in this incident, could very soon have legal teeth behind it. We have already seen such instances in Canada and Europe. When you empower government to lend official sanction to “alternative lifestyles” then that same government can use the new recognition to take away the liberty of others who oppose those actions on moral grounds.
This incident is just a small sampling of what could come.
