What Palin’s Notes Really Said
By | Monday, February 8th, 2010 | Catch-All, Politics

Horror of horrors, Sarah Palin actually had to use notes to speak to the Tea Party Convention Saturday night. Nevermind that she crafted an entire presentation from a few scribbled notes on her hand, it’s being compared to He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Unscripted’s dependence on his teleprompter.

But, don’t mock Sarah’s important message. Bearing Drift has the scoop on what her notes really said.

A candidate who has the confidence to scribble a few last minute notes on her hand is alright by me.

That speech was full of platitudes and red meat: I loved it!!!

  2. Amit February 8, 2010 21:07 pm

she didn’t use the notes for her speech. she used it for her Q&A which is really strange to me because it wasn’t like she wrote down any details (i.e. legislation #s, stats, etc) but basic tenets she should already know. whatever.

  3. JR Hoeft February 8, 2010 22:37 pm

“Whatever”? Don’t you mean “You Betchya!” Watch out for some Hokey-Pokey folksy stuff, there, Amit.

    Amit,

The fact that Palin could elaborate extraneously off of a few notes is a sign that she has a grasp of the issues. her speech and the Chris Wallce interview the next day, showed that she is developing a more comfortable tone when it comes discussion of national issues.

Your thesis that she is unintelligent is dis-proven by the fact that she was able to elaborate on the issues that she had written down, in other words she is not scripted. If she was so unintelligent and could not grasp the issues, as you suggest, do you honestly think that she could have elaborated as such.

That theory is shot and the debate about her intelligence can be laid to rest and it should be. Now lets debate her potential candidacy in respect to her leadership skills and the issues along with her positions on them, I know that you would expect nothing less for Gary Johnson.

I’m a little more than slightly disappointed that you guys seem to be missing the joke. Or am I the only one who watches LOST?

  6. JR Hoeft February 9, 2010 06:43 am

Sorry, Ward. Yes…you found me out: I don’t watch network TV.

  7. Vic Demise February 9, 2010 07:35 am

It is a well known fact that Ronald Reagen relied heavily on teleprompters. I just don’t see anything wrong with it. The irony here is that Palin slammed Obama for using a device that most presidents use, and then had to rely on hand-scribbled claptrap like, “lift America’s spirit” in order to get through a softball interview. Just be honest with yourselves…you’d be howling if a Dem did the same thing.

And sorry, Ward, I didn’t get the joke, either. I’ve never watched Lost. But I trust your joke was funny to those in the know…

  8. Steven Osborne February 9, 2010 08:33 am

The point is that Obama has used teleprompters and seems to be lost without them. Then he reads them so closely that he says “corpsman” wrong. That does not mean that he is unintelligent, however, Palin scribbles a few notes down and, like Obama, has made a few rhetoric mistakes in the past, and her critics call her a dope.

Palin probably operates on notes like that quite often, and elaborates without being so closely scripted, that is a sign of grasp on the issues. Her critics can’t have it both ways.

Sorry Ward about not getting the “Lost” joke, I am actually just starting to figure out what that whole series is about.

  9. Amit February 9, 2010 08:56 am

@Osborne, I went and watched the Wallace interview and I will admit it is her best interview to date. the skeptic in me still says it was a pre-scripted interview between two FauxNews correspondents but regardless, I’m glad to hear she is getting daily digests of recent events, etc.

Bottomline, is that she has not given me the confidence that she understands and champions the Free Market and individual rights. of course that goes for most Republicans but she is choosing/chosen to be in the spotlight right now. Her support of the bailout, desire for Federal govt definitions of marriage, and requests to increase our military footprint in the world all give me the feeling she would not help our country as our next president.

btw, just for the record, I don’t think she is truly an idiot just not intelligent enough for the presidency. I thought Bush was a smart man but lacked intellectual curiosity and basically let others run his administration. I think Palin would fall into the same mold.

    @Ward, don’t watch Lost, sorry!

  10. Amit February 9, 2010 08:57 am

@Osborne, on the point that her critics can’t have it both ways, SHE is the critic and is trying to have it both ways.

  11. Eng Esch February 9, 2010 09:33 am

She has shown amazing leadership here.

Don’t you remember when Douglas gave Lincoln that extra few seconds so that he could read his answer from his palm? Remember Reagan at the Berlin wall when he had to do it? Or how about muhahahahahaha!!!!!

I can’t believe she is even being discussed by you guys. If I were a Tea Party Member I’d be pulling my hair out that she even spoke, much less cost $115K to deliver that incompetent bit of bull hokum.

  12. Britt Howard February 9, 2010 09:57 am

Eng Esch? Quite the unusual name.

I thought Ronald Reagan did fantastically when he told Mr. Gorbachev to “tear down this wall”. Are you suggesting otherwise? The cheers from the crowd seemed genuine. I posted that video of him on his/my birthday Feb.6th. Judge for yourselves.

Eng: Yep. Usually, even if I don’t agree, I can follow the thought proces of both sides. I can understand why someone would have voted for Reagan for president or G.H.W. Bush or even George W. the first time. I wouldnt’ have done it, but I can understand it. But when we get to the question of Palin as a candidate for president, I just can’t understand what some of your are seeing. How could you listen to what she says and how she says it and think she’s remotely qualifed to be president? Just doesn’t compute. I don’t think she’s running for president anyway, I think she’s just milking her 15 minutes for all the money she can. That’s what grifters do.

@Esch, the Tea Party used Palin successfully do something no one else could do…. get the Tea Party prime time TV on all the networks as a news event, and also on all the mainstream and alternate news media at no cost to the Tea Party. The fact that this blog and thousands of others are still talking shows how effective this strategy was.

Palin accomplished in a huge way what she needed to accomplish for the Tea Party, and the buzz by the liberal bloggers and news media is just keeping it in front of the public even longer. Pretty good investment by the Tea Party if you ask me, given their ROI for hang time for this story is in the tens of millions of dollars.

  15. Eng Esch February 10, 2010 10:04 am

Given that it’s Black History Month — remember when MLK wrote “Civil Rights” on his hand too? C’mon, doncha? You betcha you don’t!

MLK wouldn’t have to actually remember that.

She’s doing a disservice to anything the TP holds dear. Seriously, the ROI is diminishing the longer this stays in the “MSM” press.

Oh, I’d heard she gave back the money. How kind of her to do so, after the fact that she was criticized.
