Best Superbowl Commercial
By | Monday, February 8th, 2010 | Policy

a bunch of good ones this year. I love the E-Trade ones with the babies talking and of course the beer ones are always funny. Personally didn’t think the Tebow ad was all that controversial. anyway, I think this year the best commercial goes to Defeat the Debt.

Debt Stinks!

Doritos’ “Two things” I thought was the funniest. if we could somehow combine that with the defeat the debt message. Have a cute kid smack a congressman in the face and say ‘two things: don’t support Obama and don’t screw my future’

Defeat the debt the best, really? Okay I get it – yea I like the message too, but don’t spend millions just to run the ad and produce something that looks like you did it at your kids school with a handycam.

If that was the best then the fish sticks commercials came in 2nd places – what was the deal with those – they looked like they should be played during afternoon soap operas.

I was disappointed there was no pro-troop ad from Budweiser this year – I guess that’s what foreign ownership gets you.

Personally, I was partial to the Dodge Charger ad.

Of note, did it seem like there were a lot more commercials of men in their underwear?

Also, I’m so glad that we, the taxpayer, paid for the Census commercial; it was so effective. (sarcasm alert)

@Hirons, by best I didn’t mean to imply funniest or best produced. I thought the debt commercial was the best because it was clever and effective in how it conveyed its message. if you wanna talk about the worst, then I think that Dove lotion for men was pretty awful. also asking the Round Mound of Rebound to do Taco Bell commercials was a strange choice.

@JR, it was only $2.5M of taxpayer money wasted. perhaps they could have just paid 2.5M people a dollar to fill out the form instead.

The census commercial was absolutely horrible. What was the point? It never said you need to fill out the form, or when it is being mailed, or anything informative. What a waste.

The debt ad was awesome..I pledge allegiance to China…brilliant…

The Audi green ad was incredible, by far the scariest – Enviro-Nazis take over the country.. I wonder if Audi recognizes that they were making environmentalists look like total whackos then they turn around and try to sell them a car…

Amit, $2.5 mil here, 2.5 mil there…pretty soon you’re talking about real money!! It is disturbing that all the talk of billions and trillions has made millions seem like a mere pittance. “Only $2.5 million wasted” is a sorry statement about our perceptions.

“Two Things” “Dodge Charger” “Brett Farve as 2020 MVP.”
That e-Trade campaign with the babies is consistently funny, but the Superbowl episodes didn’t stand out from other episodes.

LOVED this ad! I didn’t watch the Superbowl but I’m so glad that someone is calling attention to the fiscal state of the union.

@Brad, perhaps my tag didn’t make it through. just to be clear, whoever thought spending $2.5M on a stupid 30 sec commercial is an idiot and should get fired. oh wait, govt employees don’t get fired for incompetence.

    ugh, my “sarcasm” tag
