McDonnell Republican Rebuttal to be “clear and concise”
Use this post as an open-thread about the president’s speech and the Republican response.
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell will be providing tonight’s Republican response to the President’s State of the Union Address from the floor of the House of Delegates and will deliver a message that will not be unfamiliar to Virginia residents.
McDonnell will highlight six major themes in approximately ten minutes in front of about 300 invited guests who will be seated behind him on risers. In McDonnell’s “positive, upbeat, and consistent manner”, he will talk about education, energy, jobs, national security, health care and government spending, said Tucker Martin, McDonnell’s spokesman.
“We don’t have sixty minutes like the president, so we can’t get into the weeds,” said Martin. “But the speech’s language will be clear and concise, and, if you have followed Bob McDonnell, you will know this speech.”
McDonnell will highlight where Republicans and the president have common ground, such as on charter schools, but will certainly point out differences, especially on government spending.
McDonnell, who was a member of the House of Delegates for fourteen years, will not speak from the dais in the House Chambers, but actually from the floor and in front of a live audience. The audience is invited and will consist of members of the General Assembly, business owners, and members of the military, among others.
Bearing Drift will have interviews with Congressman Forbes and Congressman Wittman following the speeches (check about 11 p.m.). Follow tweets about the event using hashtag #SOTU.

Nationwide economic and employment conditions have produced a Perfect Storm for McDonnell to make some stark comparisons with Obama’s agenda and tag some populist support for the Republican party. Based on McDonnell’s message and how it is delivered, he can carve out a position which could serve him well in the 2012 election.
I hope that Governor McDonnell will take off the gloves. Reaching across the aisle to this current Radical Democrat run congress and Radical President is not how we take this country back.
John McCain, who we allowed the MSM to pick for us in 2008, was a dismal failure and proves that when you go to bed with dogs, you get up with fleas.
This country is in dire straits and business as usual in politics is not the answer.
As for education reform, the first order of business should be the abolishment of the U.S. Department of Education which the National Teacher Unions run and it is from this worthless department that the integrity of the public school system has been destroyed.
We should not have to be trying to get Charter Schools, and Parents should not have to shell out hard earned money to pay for private schools, after paying exhorbitant taxes that should go to funding public schools with integrity.
The entire national agenda of the public education system has been to dumb down and brainwash several generations of Americans since the Feds got involved in public schools which is a Local and State function. The Federal Government for almost 200 years stayed out of public schools and we had a prosperous and literate and hard working citizenry. Since the days of LBJ, the Great Society Programs, and the Federal Intervention into Public Schools, we have declined radically in every aspect of our society and culture. There is a Direct Correlation to Federal Government Intervention and the Demise of Public Education, Demise of Family Values and decency generally.
It is no time to appease the Lib Dem Radicals, including this Radical President.
It is time for some Solid and Forceful Leadership in this nation, and I supported Governor McDonald because I believe that he is a good and solid American, and I believe that the Citizens of Virginia chose wisely. It is time to turn back Socialism at every level of government beginning in our towns, counties and states and on to DC.

If you don’t know his name, you don’t have much credibility…
