The Virginian-Pilot reports that three bills are headed to the Virginia Senate floor to oppose forcing citizens to buy health insurance. (SB 283 , SB311 and SB417)
They all basically say the same thing, that a resident of the Commonwealth shall not be required to obtain or maintain a policy of individual insurance coverage. It passed in Commerce and Labor with unanimous Republican support and 2 Democrat votes.
McWaters made waves in his primary campaign where he said “we all need to be in the pool,” citing requirements to own car insurance and, to a lesser extent, home insurance.
Now he will have to vote on a bill that would presumably ban something he said we need, and that bill looks to have united Republican support.
Will Sen. McWaters vote along the lines of his comments during the campaign, or will he vote with the Republican caucus in opposing universal health care requirements?
