“Former”- a word Kaine might want to get familiar with.

Regarding the “seal” – wow. Harsh. Of course, I think there are some members of the GOP who might be on that ship too – especially if they’re not careful.

  2. Ben January 20, 2010 23:47 pm

Though I find this hilarious, I also think that it’s unneeded and irresponsible. Republicans are entering a time of resurgence and instead of photo-shopping the democratic seal for a joke… we need to govern. We, as a party, need to be humble with the power and responsibility that the people have entrusted with us over the last few months. We should be humble with our victories and mindful of our actions. This kind of partisan grandstanding is NOT needed, nor is it appropriate.

    Lighten up Ben.

  4. Ben January 20, 2010 23:55 pm

Sorry Freddie, but voters are fickle. We need to prove that they were right to entrust us with their votes. This… doesn’t help.

It just proves that we’re a party that supports “politics-as-usual”. Civic Engagement does not include the disrespect of an opposing party.

I don’t do partisan politics Ben. I do snark.

    Your jocularity may vary.

  6. Ben January 21, 2010 00:05 am

Joke away. But, personally, I don’t think it helps anything.

  7. JR Hoeft January 21, 2010 06:14 am

I also think it’s hilarious. It’s a joke, Ben. Relax. What do you think of the Daily Show or Late Night’s Top Ten?

While I think it’s funny, Republicans do need to understand they still have a lot of work ahead of them unless they want to be left without the life rafts.

  8. Brian Kirwin January 21, 2010 06:55 am

Is the Democratic Party the Titanic or the iceburg?

  9. Ben January 21, 2010 08:44 am

Don’t get me started on the Daily Show (or the Colbert Report for that matter). As I said, I think it’s hilarious. I really love a joke about the failing Democratic Party every once in a while. My point was to be made that this kind of partisan activity is what disenfranchises voters (especially the youth). Do I think that this one picture and this one post are going to negatively impact the Republican Party? No, of course not. It’s the potential trend of negativity that I’m warning about. Nothing else.

(Also, whereas this picture is funny… David Letterman is not. Lol)

This is funny and so true.

  11. Mark January 21, 2010 09:46 am

Funny – I know the GOP is going DOWN – heck, the only Republicans who’ve won – including Brown never mentioned that they were Republicans. Wait, that’s supposed to be a slam against the Dems? The Dems who were saddled with the Republicans’ deficits? The Republicans’ national debt? Two wars the Republicans couldn’t win? The Republican’s economic collapse? The Republicans’ unemployment rate? Heck – with the disaster the GOP left President Obama the fact that people are only this mad is amazing. But, don’t worry, the Dems are used to fixing Republican messes. We’ll fix this one too, then someday, when we have budget surpluses, the economy is roaring, and we’re at peace with the the world, the Republicans will get their chance again, screw it up again – and again the people will turn to the Democratic Party.

  12. Mark January 21, 2010 09:55 am

PS – Jim, I had to visit y’all after the win on Tuesday. It’ll be interesting to see if Brown can hold on to the seat. Also, what’s up with the “Don’t Tread On Me” flag? I always appreciated that American flag until the angry/ aimless/ Faux-news propaganda filled tea partiers co-opted it. Don’t tell me y’all have decided to join the uneducated glenn beck crowd o’ dumb consipracy theories? Seriously?

  13. J.R. Hoeft January 21, 2010 10:06 am

Spoken like a true comrade, Mark. You’ll see what’s up with the Gadsden flag in the coming weeks.

  14. Tim J January 21, 2010 11:29 am

Mark is obviously experiencing a latent case of déjà vu for his view and like all establishment progressives, keeps trying to channel failure from Republicans and their failures into the present. Channeling failure is admitting failure and assessing blame is weakness. The political miracles happening in current elections are proof.

  15. Britt Howard January 21, 2010 12:06 pm

See, Mark is an example of what happens when some become afraid of a movement and don’t have a rational arguement. They call people names. They don’t have anything else.

Mark, let me address your ad hominems and correct the false impressions that you atempt to conjure.

    1. The Tea Party is not Glenn Beck. Its good that a high profile media guy like Beck is supportive of the Tea Party. Addressing some of your concerns, many people and groups try to co-opt the movement for their own interests. Unfortunately for them, this is bigger than they are, and they can’t control it.

2.The Tea Party, regardless of who might be running for office as one, is not a political party. It is a movement. Unlike what Lee Tally has previously stated, Tea Partiers are not bi-partisan. They are non-partisan and merely issue oriented. It is not Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, or Constitutionalist, however members from all those parties are part of the Tea Party movement.

    3. Democrats like Obama(and you Mark)are afraid of the Tea Party because it has had success, publicly opposed socialistic pet projects and hyper spending, grown, not gone away after a few weeks like many fads, and isn’t controllable. If it makes you feel better Mark, some Republicans see the Tea Party as a threat for the same damn reasons!! And here some think that the Tea Party is an arm of the GOP……

    4. Some of those people that you just wrongly called “uneducated” are members of your own party and members of other parties that at times are your allies on other particular issues. But thanks for spitting in our faces, Mark, it makes you look real good……..

    5. Yes, I oppose the Obama/Congress vision of healthcare. I oppose Cap & Trade. I do think all the wreckless spending is putting our country in jeopardy. Will it make you feel better if I criticize George Bush too?

During his first term, George Bush was the next best thing since sliced bread. His second term was an unfathomable disaster. You are correct in bashing Bush on deficit spending. He is responsible for damaging our economy. Bush is a “Big Government” spender. I didn’t think a Democrat could even out spend him. Obama has proven me wrong though. That said, Bush’s utter failures are no excuse for what Obama/Congress is currently doing. They need to start taking responsibility for their watch instead of trying to prove that they are bigger government and bigger spenders than Bush.

In the past many Republicans had complained due to their impression that Libertarians like me complain about Republicans and don’t complain about Democrats. Now, that Democrats are in power, and abusing it, guys like me(and Non-Libertarian Tea Partiers) are quick to call the Dems on their crap and vote correspondingly. So, now……..I guess we’re not so bad. You Dems give us most of the negative attention at this point.

    6. Want to make the Tea Party movement disappear? It is real easy!

(A)Stop trying to force socialized medicine on us. It is not the answer to the current health care problems.

(B)Stop this Cap & Trade and carbon tax stuff before you ruin us. After the evidence for Global Warming was proven to be the scam that it is, any “street cred” you had in denying that it is an excuse for a power grab, selective taxation, and Dem. nest feathering is TOAST! Aww….too bad for Al Gore and his carbon credit bank(snake oil).

(C)Stop all the big government deficit spending! Things are so bad that China has gone from laughing at owning the US, to fearing that we might end up being a worthless money pit. Bring fiscal sanity back and let America regain its pride. Individualistic Americans don’t want to be so far in debt to another nation.

Mark, if you do A,B, & C then the Tea Party will evaporate. People will return to their individual parties. Many will return to the TV freak parade of Peterson wife killers, Michael Jackson like stories, and watching American Idol. It is just that easy. If Obama is serious about wanting to see the Tea Party fade away, and if you want to see the Gadsden Flag in your favored light again, just do A,B, & C. I’ll have fewer political friends (like the liberals in Massachusetts that voted Republican), but I’ll be happy that America will no longer be in peril.

The seal could be a bit better. It should have the Hindenberg crashing into the Titanic.

And blumpkins like Mark, Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Anderson Cooper will never understand

  17. Mark January 21, 2010 17:59 pm

What IS the Tea Party – if not a bunch of no nothings? Seriously the manifesto you just authored was as well thought out as anything you could have read in Pravda during the USSR. Y’all are just more victims of the right-wing propaganda machine. Get yourselves educated – it’ll save our country.

As for the allegations that I – or the Democrats – should be labeled socialists or “comrade” – it’s just further evidence of the right-wing’s propaganda machine. I’m a bigger believer in capitalism than y’all – I’ve owned a small business, I served on active duty – and I guarantee I’ve made more money in the market than all y’all. But, that’s the problem, I’m educated, I know the system – and I know its flaws. When I was uneducated I was a Republican, when I got educated I became a Democrat. Sorry folks if y’all get educated too, and stop getting all your news from one source – that is more interested in spin than in news – you too will ditch the GOP.

  18. Mark January 21, 2010 18:05 pm

Oh and Jim, later – Reichsfurher.

  19. Britt Howard January 21, 2010 20:21 pm

    Nice accent, Mark.

    Get “educated”?

If you’re speaking of a scholastic education, I’m a lost cause. I went to public school 1st-12th grade. The University I went to was also public. I was in a private school for kindergarten, so I do have a firm grasp on my colors, letters, numbers, and can do wonders with paper mache.

Mark, socialized medicine is well…….socialism. All that deficit spending is “Big Government” and fiscally irresponsible. Cap & Trade is insane regulation and taxation of an element on the periodic table. Maybe Al Gore will sell breath mints to clean the carbon out of our breath when we exhale that CO2. Cap & Trade is a huge job killer and the last thing we need in our environment(nice play on words, eh?) of double digit unemployment. (thanks for “creating OR saving” all those jobs, btw)

Hey, I’m not calling you comrade, but if you support those three things you just ARE on the left end of the political spectrum. You are more likely than most to be a socialist. Those aren’t ideals of capitalism, end of story. All political parties have their extremes. Not all Democrats are socialist. I love conservative democrats. So, when are you gonna “educate” Glenn Nye, Mark? I’m sure he has it coming. Remedial classes for Massachusetts voters?

True enough, if you are on the right side of “Big Government”, you will be quite wealthy. If you are taking advantage of those “flaws”, then you recognize that they are indeed flaws and should not be that way. Hey, if it is legal, go feed your family, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t advocate fixing the system.

Where do I get my news? One source? No. I get a lot of my news from that rag called the Virginian Pilot. I quote their past articles all the time. Like when I illustrate the time line of Mark Warner’s Tax hike as being TOTALLY unneeded. I also get news from the radio, TV news programming, and several places on the internet. John Stossel is my hero. John Stossel is my hero.

Being a Libertarian, I take both major parties with a grain of salt. With your obvious bias, will I take your assertions as gospel? Lol, hardly, but I am listening. If you bring something up, I probably will see if I can verify it just in case you’re forking up some legit stuff that day.
