(Updated) Hurt raises several hundred thousand dollars last quarter
By | Thursday, January 14th, 2010 | Politics

State Sen. Robert Hurt reports today that he raised nearly $300,000 from 450 donors since after the November General Election, most of the donors being from within Virginia. He also has over $250,000 in cash on hand. This puts him ahead of any competitor in cash raised, cash on hand, number of donors, and number of donors from within Virginia.

Update: His chief rival, Laurence Verga, who has to date self-funded 96% of his campaign, yet has nearly $220,000 cash on dismissed the fundraising by saying, “It is clear from the State Senator’s finance report that he is the preferred choice of Richmond lobbyists and Washington insiders.”

$300,000 between 450 donors? That equals $666 per donor!!!!!!!

Verga is right! Hurt is teh Devil, Lucisatan hisself!

Hurt also got my $50 donation, because that’s what I could afford.

It would appear that if any of the non-Hurt candidates are going to win, then they are going to need either serious money or a strong grassroots operation. Verga has the money, but can he translate that into on the ground organization? What about Morton and Boyd?

DoDo, your right. Somebody in the Hurt’s staff should have caught all of the 6′s. It’s $666.66666…. which can be an issue for the superstitious among us.

Who is this Verga guy and when did he become the spokesman for the right? Its pretty clear that Hurt has some solid support in his district, and wild statements like this from Verga beclown him.

The math is ny fault. I rounded.

450 people totally isn’t solid support. It’s nothing to ignore, but let’s not pretend that it shows a huge wave of support for Hurt. Especially when that’s overall, not 5th District specifically.

The field seems pretty fluid now.

Hurt has some solid backing, however, I think that Ken Boyd has a constituency as well, Feda Morton also has elected experience to some extent.

450 people is more people than you think when you know how Hurt fundraised, in some part, in the last quarter.

supporters would organize fundraisers, many in small, rural & not overly affluent areas like Lunenburg Co. Hurt would come in, meet & greet, & then someone obnoxious (like myself) would ask did he need money. or how to make a donation. or how much did he think it would take to beat Perriello.

from many of those 450 donors, he received money after meeting ONE time. that is what is impressive.

let’s face it everyone. it is going to take a WHOLE LOT of money to beat Perriello. that is just the nasty fact of running against him.
