Gilmore to lead Free Congress Foundation
By | Tuesday, December 29th, 2009 | Catch-All

Yesterday, former Governor Jim Gilmore released a statement about his new gig: heading-up the Free Congress Foundation.

Gilmore, who becomes the foundation’s president and CEO, says, “there is a real need and demand in the country right now for an organization that advances conservative solutions to the problems facing everyday Americans in a bipartisan fashion.”

He will work to make Free Congress the organization that can bring all political party persuasions together under a big tent to follow conservative solutions (which might be a challenge given his past as an ardent Republican and chairman of the national party).

Gilmore effectively succeeds the late Paul Weyrich, founder and national chairman of the organization (and the Heritage Foundation), who passed away Dec. 19, 2008.

I think this is a good fit for Governor Gilmore.

Bipartisan and Jim Gilmore used in the same sentence has to be a first.

Governor Gilmore is a partisan politician but there is a great need for someone credible to set-up as the voice and face of principled conservatism. The “big fat idiot” and his ilk have held sway too long.

Conservatives can take pride in articulating and supporting such principles as : personal responsibility and accountability; fiscal discipline; economic development; and foreign policy geared toward achievable objectives based on appropriate blends of economics,
    democratic values, and military force.
