Surprise! You’re in a Union!
By | Monday, December 28th, 2009 | Policy

You own a small business, and suddenly you get a letter saying you are now paying union dues and your business is now unionized.

Government made it happen.

“Ms. Berry owns her own business—yet the Michigan Department of Human Services claims she is a government employee and union member. The agency thus withholds union dues from the child-care subsidies it sends to her on behalf of her low-income clients. Those dues are funneled to a public-employee union that claims to represent her.”

Ain’t that great! America under Obama and the Democrats. Own a daycare center, and be forced into a union.

“A year ago in December, Ms. Berry and more than 40,000 other home-based day care providers statewide were suddenly informed they were members of Child Care Providers Together Michigan—a union created in 2006 by the United Auto Workers and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The union had won a certification election conducted by mail under the auspices of the Michigan Employment Relations Commission. In that election only 6,000 day-care providers voted. The pro-labor vote turned out. Many of the state’s other 34,000 day-care providers never even realized what was going on”

The first hint Ms. Berry had that she was now a union member is when they started taking union dues.

Overreaching Unions trying to coerce members into joining was bad enough. Now government tells you you’ve joined a union, and takes your business’ money for union dues. This is America under Obama.

Your private business is handed over to Big Labor Unions by a vote by mail that you didn’t even know about. Change you can believe in? Believe it.

This demonstrates what happens when you trust the government to provide rather than protect. The government under the current leadership is not interested in helping anybody, they are interested in gaining power over large segments of the American economy, there is much money to be made from such a takeover.

The Democrats in Washington today, continue to treat the American people as an incapable bunch of buffoons. The American people are smart enough to provide for themselves. What the American people do need is protection form the very Union Bosses that our government is currently in league with.

Not to be controversial, Brian, but this happened under the watch of Bush 43. “A year ago in December” was when Berry received the letter. Barry O. wasn’t even doinking Michelle – and the rest of us – in the White House yet.

Unfortunately this is just another seizure of our rights and freedoms by organizations that find favor with government, regardless of whether D’s or R’s are in charge.

Well, it IS Michigan, after all.

Brad, I don’t think it’s a matter of what party the president may be, it’s the Congress who is responsible for laws which are now funneling most businesses into unions. Obama has “outsourced” most of his deal making to Congress which is transforming the relationship between the banking system and business. This “transformation”, along with unfunded mandates and agendas, politicize and “pick and choose” certain business sectors over others. Changes must fundamentally occur in the liberal-conservative ratio in Congress that will rip the creeping socialist tentacles away that are squeezing the lifeblood out of our economy. Notice, I didn’t say “Democrat” or “Republican” because both parties are not principled enough to make this happen.

Man, I’d love to wake up and find out I had a union. That would have been a great Xmas present. Too bad I live in the “move your business here because we’ll let you treat your workers worse than those Yankees will” south.

  6. Steve December 29, 2009 04:53 am

Well Mr. Vaughan I’m sure you have frequent unions with your left hand!

    Steve:
And that comment is appropriate to this forum? Usually comments here are civil even when discussion of issues becomes heated. Don’t facilitate the stereotype of the conservative meathead.

Why the constant jackassary from you right-wing partisan nuts? Attack President Obama on principle – attack him for his ideas – but putting him in a picture next to Lenin and Stalin is no different than then left wing nutjobs putting Bush next to Hitler. It’s all jackassary and what I find particularly offensive is how accepted it seems to be on the right. Do you just not love your country anymore? Or do you only love this country when your guy is in the White House.

Hey jackasses – Bush was our President and now Obama is our President.

Oh, come on now Capt. F! Although, Steve’s comment may have been cause for levity in closed circles, it served little purpose. Steve Vaughn’s response was on point and served as a good example in contrast.

You on the other hand are just copying what you complain about when you throw out the “jackass” name calling.

Name calling, while juvenile & showing that you have no arguement to offer, can hardly be labeled as unpatriotic. As the Left stated during the Bush years, a willingness to criticize your president not only is a 1st amendment issue, but can quite possibly be very patriotic.

The picture isn’t quite in the same realm. Being slightly inflammatory is probably good for the blog’s numbers, it attracts attention. The picture with Lenin and Stalin is editorial and artistic license used to point to allegations that Obama is either socialist or communist. If the Left compared Bush to Hitler because both were socialists, I’d have to admit to seing a point. Bush was no fiscal conservative, spending us deep into debt and growing government at an alarming pace. Secret Police/homeland security comparisons can also be made.

However, often the Left compared Bush to Hitler as pure name calling. Hitler=bad. Call Bush Hitler. Nothing more than that.

If you want to call for civil debate, as Steve Vaughn did, I’d have to join you. It makes for a true and informative debate.
