The priority was obviously the thousands being provided with a Christmas that they would not have otherwise had.

As a former dem, I always thought dems would practice the initiative of going into the community.

I haven’t seen that in a long time.

The Salvation Army generally councils against abortions. I am very pro-life, and it is a major issue for me. I also support the Salvation Army’s efforts. They are actively discouraging abortions, while also working to feed the hungry and clothe the needy, something that Christians should be doing more of. I do respect your perspective on the matter, however, organizations like the Salvation Army are carrying out the Biblical mandate when it comes to helping the poor.

Democrats and fellow students,

The only way we can achieve true social justice is to support the churches and charitable organizations that are on the front lines of the fight against poverty. The current government has done great harm to the cause of social justice in this country by working to limit churches and charitable organizations through taxation, regulation, and so called “discrimination” clauses. People like Rep. Wittman are truly working for social justice.

I doubt this even came into Wittman’s thoughts when he went to go help his fellow man receive warm clothes. So, I resent you trying to play “gotcha” with a good deed.

This post is about conservatives getting out of their comfort zone and getting their hands dirty in the community. It’s not about abortion…so I resent you hijacking the thread!

Is his going to help at a Salvation Army post going to change your vote in 2010?

Red herring. You deflect the argument about Wittman choosing to support an immoral charity by claiming I am to lazy to find alternatives. I already know where I send my money and time. That has nothing to do with Wittman’s poor choice.

What’s really telling is that Wittman deleted my comment on his Facebook page where he references this post. He’s obviously ashamed to have been caught.

There are plenty of Catholic charities that do just that. I know we can’t always avoid indirectly supporting pro-death organizations. However, the SA is blatantly pro-death. Wittman is wrong to associate with them, as is anyone who respects life, and women. He’s not showing leadership, he’s showing weakness.

OK, David. What charities pass your purity test that provide food, clothing, or shelter to those in need?

Also, this is not about me or my endorsement of the Salvation Army. It is about human beings doing the right thing and helping out their fellow man in need.

I merely pointed out Wittman’s leadership by example. I suppose no good deed goes unpunished.

It’s disappointing when someone who claims to be pro-life goes to bat for an anti-life organization. Bad choice, Rob.

“[the salvation army] accepts that termination of a pregnancy may be justified on certain limited grounds; that is, where, in the judgment of competent medical and allied staff, the pregnancy poses a serious threat to the life of the mother, or could result in irreversible physical injury to the mother. In cases of proven rape or legally defined incest an abortion may be justified because of the extent to which rape and incest violate the whole person. Termination of a pregnancy may also be justified where reliable diagnostic procedures determine that a foetal abnormality is present which is incompatible with life other than brief post-natal survival or where there is total absence of cognitive function.”
