Thank you, Congressman Forbes, for that article! It is imperative that we look beyond our own need to the needs of others...it is our duty as American citizens and our priviledge as Christians to reach out to those around us who are in need. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and to all of the bloggers here on Bearing Drift!!

The Fed would have us believe that their manipulation of the money supply doesn't cause problems. Check out the inflation #s quoted above. Even those of us who are lucky enough to have jobs and are not on fixed incomes, but whose wages are stagnating, are affected.

I wish people would wake up to the deleterious effects that the decades-long debasement of the currency has brought upon us all. When will people learn? The government should not have control of the printing presses, ie let's get back on the gold standard and put the politicians in fiscal straightjackets.

Inflation is a burdensome tax on us all.

Just Wait Until Cap and Tax is passed...(hopefully not)

The Bishop Harry Jackson made a very pertinent point concerning poverty and energy policy. According to Jackson, the average middle class American family pays around 10% of their paychecks to energy costs. However, the average family in the inner city pays 25-50% of their paychecks to energy costs. If we allow Cap and Tax to pass, then many of these struggling families could find themselves on the street come next Christmas.

I understand that the point of the article is to increase awareness about giving, but I was also struck by the opening few paragraphs.

Clearly prices are going up - and much of it has to do with a weakening dollar and terrible energy policy.

Healthcare has been a tremendous distraction to the actual issues that matter to most Americans...particularly economic and national security.

If we had a strong economic and energy policy, perhaps so many folks wouldn't need food banks?
