Virginia Politics On DemandAbout
Bearing Drift was established in 2004. The name comes from the relative motion of objects at sea. If there is no bearing drift, and the distance between you and the object is closing, there will be a collision; therefore, action must be taken.
Most navigation rules state that the best course of action with constant bearing and decreasing range is to alter one's course to starboard - the right! Therefore, most of us at Bearing Drift ascribe to this rule - if it looks like the ship-of-state is going to wreck, move right; you can't go wrong!!!

Ok people how can we take him and the people that back him seriously when he has now thrown in with the liberals in Washington. This isn’t Maine folks! We like our Republicans to still believe in the Constitution. Healthcare is not and cannot ever be a right. This pig needs to go back to the Democrat party from which he came.
Really at the end of the day. Its a right to him so his former company and friends can make their money of the increased largess of the government teat!
WoW! How many McWaters’ endorsers will abandon ship on this revelation? Scott Rigell, what do you think of this? First you give $1,000 to Obama and then $10,926 to McWaters!
Let’s recapitulate:, City workers, military, and teacher’s with good insurance; seniors who are afraid of medical rationing, and the Republican Women Clubs that view McWaters a ecumenical chauvinist. Heck, that’s just about the sum of demographics that will participate in this firehouse.
It would appear that McWaters is trying to appeal to the cross-over Democratic vote??
I won’t bore you with the poorly written fiction, but I think the Press is now saying Jeff supports government controlled health care!
Stating that everyone in America is already covered, a coverage we all pay for via hidden costs, does not equate to supporting Obamacare. ie in american we won’t allow a Mom to deliver a baby on the street, a fatal emergency is going to be handled at the local ER regardless of insurance. This current system is driving costs to an uncontrollable level and has to be corrected. McWaters has repeatedly stated he does not support Obama’s plan. Accusing the founder of a health care company of supporting Obamacare – a plan that would be devastating to companies such as Amerigroup defies all logic.
Gee Jack,
There’s not much latitude to unspin a socially motivated quote, “Health care is a right in America,”. There are many endorsers cringing on that one.
Rosemary, I wanted to let you know how very disappointed I am that you would stoop so low as to put out that base Obama/McWaters flier. When I first saw it, I was shocked you would represent Republican women in such an unladylike way. The flier was shameful. Because you would do such a thing I feel I cannot ever support you in anything you run for now or in the future. Truth that is twisted is still a lie.
You can always tell when the McWaters campaign sends out people with their talking points. (Kathy’s and Jack’s comments)
My question is how can healthcare really be a right in McWaters’ mind when he denies healthcare to pregnant women?
Irratated is an understatement. Jeff reached out with the obligitory greeting as I headed out of the breakfast. After noticing my Rosemary sticker, he quickly turned his attention back to someone he knows he can get support from. That is just who he is. He doesn’t care about anyone that cannot help him back financially. Under his breath, he stated that I had some “debris” to clean up outside, referring to the yard signs.
Oh for Pete’s sake, who cares. Neither will vote on that topic in the Senate of Virginia. With our state facing a melt down in our chances for economic development because of a decaying and deteriorating transportation system, plus the prospect of our share of federal gas tax money going to our competitors, what will the candidates do about that?
Kathy, shame on you. How can you use the “ladylike” statement. Rosemary is not here as a “woman”, she is here as a person that represent all the people in her district, not just the women. For you to disparage her and in turn support an ego-maniac man that allows funding for abortion, while denying funding for pregnant women is a disgrace. The flier handed out….was backed up by the Pilot “op-ed” piece that was also on the table. How convenient you left that part out.
Jason, I am not a paid staffer for the McWaters campaign. I am just a long time supporter for Republican candidates I feel would best represent the Republican party and the ideals we stand for. I am not the only member of a Republican Women Club that was at the breakfast nor am I the only woman who expressed the sentiments I wrote on this blog. I am just the only woman so far that would step up and publicly say it. By the way, the Pilot didn’t back up the flier, it just reported it.
That whole piece was created from an op-ed from McWaters himself. All they did was use his own words.
“I was shocked you would represent Republican women in such an unladylike way”. This is what I have a problem with. Why do you think she was representing “Republican women”, vice RepubliCANS? This whole, trying to get the vote of a particular segment of the population is driving us apart. We vote as citizens, not how what color we are, or gender, or whatever… A true representative will serve all citizens equally. I was just saying Kathy, you say she shouldn’t have brought his “self-proclaimed” words into the debate, well you shouldn’t have brought her gender into it. It is irrelevent.
Since when is it horrible and “unladylike” to point out that this self serving idiot supports the greatest attempt to strip away our liberty in the history of this country. Shame on you Kathy! Your willingness to support the selling of our liberties demonstrates where your thoughts are concerning our country’s future.
“I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.” – Barry Goldwater
Master Chief,
Let me explain to you one of the great fallacies of the healthcare debate. Companies like Amerigroup, Anthem, etc. want Government Healthcare and let me tell you why. They want to be come Government Contractors billing time and material to you and I the US taxpayer. Look at the majority of the largest companies in the world.. Government Contractors. Amerigroup is already a large government contractor in processing medicaid and medicare. In fact that work was part of the summary judgement against them that was mentioned in a previous post. Think people when Obamacare or shall we say now “McWaterscare” gets passed through where are the Feds going to get the people and resources to process claims and other insurance type stuff. They will simply bid it out like everything else they do. Who will get the bids. The current healthcare companies. So don’t be so simple. Healthcare companies want “McWaterscare” to pass!
Been doing some more googling on our boy there McWaters. So here is a guy who’s a church elder who runs a company that pays for abortions. Now whatever you feel about choice we can all agree that a church elder should be pro life… shouldn’t he? His company makes money on abortion so he’s profiting thereby on the procedure being done. So he plays a large part in the use of this procedure. Now if you are pro-life how can you justify supporting this man. Explain that one to me folks. Don’t tell me its required they do it by law. Maybe so but no one forced him to run a company that had to follow that legal requirement. Wake up people.
McWaters is the definition of RINO. What is politically convenient is what he is.
The Wilson campaign calls him on it with his healthcare stance and McWaters screams foul. This is the question I have posed all along, who is he politically and what does he stand for?
Whatever it is, it is not a conservative Republican and anyone who thinks otherwise can read the Pilot or McWaters own words to learn that.
You Wilson boys sure have been busy while I was at church!!!! Jason, I was not the one who went to all the Republican Women Clubs and asked to vote for Rosemary because she was a woman, and government needs more women. That was Rosemary. I and many other women have never voted for anyone because they are male or female, white or black, rich or poor, whatever. Since I voted for Reagan in 1980, I have only voted for the best candidate with a positive message that stuck to the issues. As I told a dear friend on Friday at the Republican Headquarters who is running for Thelma’s old seat, (that was before I saw the flier), I will only support and help candidates who have a positive message and sticks to the issues and I will never support or help a candidate who has dirty gutter, guerrilla warfare tactics. As I went door knocking and worked the phones during this last campaign I found out many people feel the same.
Kathy,
So the strongest message right now is that of the Democrats and Obamacare?
Well I can say the Republican party needs less RINOs so if you support government run healthcare then please exit my party post haste.
So Kathy are you pro-life or pro-choice? Your values are reflected in the candidates you support. If McWaters is all for killing the innocent then I think he should say so don’t you?
Dearest Lee, I have six children, gave birth to them all. What do you think my dear? I am going to go clean up the storm damage to my yard now, you guys have fun.
Kathy, you didn’t answer anything. Good for you for raising six children and being a church-going woman. Nobody is questioning your dedication as a mother or a believer.
The problem is, this is not about you, this is about Jeff. People deserve to know what the person trying to represent them believes and a government run healthcare system is completely at odds to what this district stands for.
Actually the question should be “Kathy, you’re on McWaters’ website and were part of a McWaters press release weeks ago. Who are you kidding?”
Kathy,
Id think you’d do well to clean up the storm damage that is your judgement in candidates. You support a man who’s provided for the abortion of children, stolen from the government, and wouldn’t have even covered you with insurance when you were pregnant with your 6 children. Wow…. two words for you love… SELL OUT!
Hi Brian. I never said I didn’t support McWaters, I only said I was not a paid staffer. Again, I will continue to support the best candidate for the position. It was nice to see you use your full name Brian. It is always good to know who you are talking to.
Kathy, if you haven’t noticed Bearing Drift before, I write here very frequently and use my full name every single time.
I have not been a frequent visitor. I think the last time was during the McCain campaign. I like your bio.
President Reagan would like to say something, if ya’ll will permit him a moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRdLpem-AAs

The comment was made that it does not matter where these two stand on Obamacare. I beg to differ. There is word that whatever gets out of Congress (if it gets out of Congress) may contain an opt-out clause for the states. One can presume that it will be the state legislatures that vote on whether a state opts out of Obamacare or not – thus, their position matters a great deal.
We have so much facing all of us right now in America. As a Veteran of the United States, (I served under Carter at first, that gives my age, wink wink) we have terrorism here on American soil killing our soldiers. When I was in the Air Force, the Iranian hostage crisis was in full force. Thank God they were afraid of Reagan and let them go. We have unemployment at a high not seen in decades and growing higher everyday. We have a socialist president bankrupting our children and for me, my five grandchildrens’ future. It also makes me sad that over half my life is over and Republicans can’t find unity and be civil to each other. After 30 years of voting and supporting Republicans, I am tired of dirty politics. I am still a Republican. I just want candidates who will not fight below the belt. Thank you for allowing me my freedom of speech in a civil platform.
Kathy,
Thank you for your service and I’m sorry about Carter. I can remember being 5 and thinking “Who is this bum. What a wuss!” and I was 5. I watched Reagan’s inauguration in second grade and I just had that feeling like whew the grown folks are back in charge.
Now I agree with you on dirty politics believe it or not. However is it really dirty to point out glaring inconsistencies in peoples records. Point out where their positions are diametrically apposed to what you and I believe in as Republicans and as Americans. Dirty politics are lies. I don’t come here to spread lies just sunshine and truth.
No matter what color you dye the tiger he still has his stripes and like what was said in a previous post what if Jeff was the deciding vote on Virginia opting out of “Obama / McWaters” healthcare. What would he vote. What has his actions and words have indicated in the present and in the past.
This is Jeff’s response to Rosemary Wilson’s desperate and dirty politics:
Dear Friends, Recently my opponent has launched attacks on my position concerning the health care debate. I would like to take this opportunity to state my position in full, minus the political spin or any distortion about my beliefs. First of all, I do not, nor have I ever, supported “Obamacare,” a public option, or single-payer health care. I have been very outspoken on this not just recently on my campaign, but for the past number of years. I believe very strongly that the democrat sponsored plan, currently before the Senate, is very bad for America. In fact, as I have stated on the campaign trail and off, the current Obama-Pelosi-Democrat plan will set us back decades in providing quality, affordable and accessible care. For my opponent to say that I am in favor of government controlled healthcare-“Obamacare”- is preposterous, and an outright falsehood. My entire career has been built on creating a business model built around the philosophy that private enterprise is better and more efficient at administering healthcare than the government. Healthcare in America is too important to be left up to the government to manage. Private enterprise and the competitive free market is the best and only way to provide access to quality, affordable care. We proved that in 14 states with AMERIGROUP! I am not a politician, and I don’t make campaign promises about decreasing the size and scope of government and cutting costs without the record to back it up. I have actually done it. I have a long record of working with state and federal legislators, testifying before congressional and senate hearings on healthcare, and further PROVING that government is not the answer by creating a company that managed health care better than the government could.
Just as in the final weeks of Bob McDonnell’s campaign for Governor, I plan to continue running my campaign focused on the issues that matter most to voters: creating jobs, getting our economy back on track, reducing the size and cost of government, and prioritizing our
transportation projects to get us moving again. Like Creigh Deeds, my opponent’s attacks are out of desperation because she knows she is losing. I’m sure in the final two weeks of this campaign, we can expect my opponent to continue the mud-slinging she has resorted to. Her liberal record of tax increase after tax increase is NOT the type of politician we need working for us right now. We need new leadership not a professional politician, someone with a proven conservative track record of creating jobs and solving complex problems. I hope I can count on your vote on Saturday, December 5th.
Sincerely , Jeff McWaters
kathy are you serious? Go away, we’ve read his words and listened to what he’s said. He’s sticking to the issues? Then why is he attacking Rosemary in this email???
He is a joke as a candidate, but maybe he just has to buy some more endorsements to make his proven liberal track record more believable. I for one am not buying it.
I have NEVER received a check from Rosemary, and have NEVER supported a candidate that was not the most qualified. Like it or not Rosemary is the ONLY candidate worth voting for, not some wanna-be politician with deep pockets. Kathy you’re better than this.
Wait he doesn’t support Obamacare but yet he says health insurance should be mandated. WTF!!!!!
It takes a skilled politician to speak out of both sides of his mouth. What about the legal issues of the company you ran? What about the policies that discriminated against pregnant woman and people with disabilities like Autism? How about the abortions your company paid for? How can you mary your business actions with your actions as a leader in your church? How can you marry them up to God’s truth?
After reading the blogs, I realize this is not a forum for anyone except for very angry, very young men that spout off without even knowing the person they are spouting off about. You guys take care.
Well there’s another McWaters lackey taking their ball and running home. Jeff, Jeff, Jeff. Surely if we are just a bunch of angry young men (Hmmm that tone sure sounded sexist to me.) your argument would win out. Sure seems like thats not the case here is it. You better come argue your point yourself Jeff. Come here and face us yourself. Though I sure would hate to see you lose to a bunch of angry young men. Btw. I’m not angry and Im more middle aged and crazy than young.
Yeah, Lee. It’s funny. Kathy sent me a “friend request” on Facebook. 24 hours later, we’re all angry males and she wants to leave.
In all due respect what does a state senator have to do with…”creating jobs, getting our economy back on track,…. and prioritizing our transportation projects to get us moving again.” Fact is, the private sector creates jobs; we only need the state to produce an educated work force, provide for civil society with human services and courts and justice, and provide a first class transportation system. We don’t need prioritization of trans. projects, we need funding. Please, focus of what is right for Virginia.
All you have to do is read what McWaters wrote a couple years ago. Now that he is running FOR office, he is running FROM his comments.
I’m still waiting for his spin on the federal fraud convictions that his company received.
The simple fact is we can’t trust this guy.
