Why Democrats are losing
By | Thursday, November 19th, 2009 | Policy

We’re in the middle of the worst recession in a generation with unemployment in double digits, and the number one priority for Democrats throughout the entire first quarter of Obama’s Presidency has been a government takeover of health care.

Whatever problems exist in health care, they pale in comparison to recession, unemployment and economic stagnation.

I think independent voters are screaming, “It’s the economy, stupid!” and the longer Obama wastes time trying to complete a century-old effort to centralize health care in the Federal Government, the less patient independent voters will be with him, and the Congress he’s leading down a dead end path.

About the author

Brian Kirwin

The right wants to jeer him. The left wants to censor him. Moderates usually want both. Brian Kirwin is a political consultant and public relations strategist in Virginia Beach with a lightning-rod flair. Brian also serves on the VB Arts & Humanities Commission and frequently appears on Hampton Roads theatrical stages, if only to prove that all actors aren’t liberals. Kirwin’s columns stir up debate and hit the political scene with no punches pulled.

o/t: but the Senate vote on Cloture is SAturday. We must have one Dem vote for it to ultimately kill passage of Obamacare. Call & write SEn Warner & WEbb today. there are protests in Richmond, Newport News & NoVa, too (Tertium Quids has the info).

Yes, republicans are certainly taking a big gamble; the question is, now that recovery has started, what will independent voters say in a year? Since republican policy brought us the financial meltdown and the rising deficit, will independents in a year applaud action taken by republicans and democrata alike to pull us back from the abyss? That is the question, and the answer is in the jobs report. Republicans must pray that it continues to get worse, otherwise, they are toast.

I’ve been noticing something strange over the past few months. This has stopped being “Obamacare” and started being “Pelosicare”. Obama can now feign innocence towards the Health Care reform if it fails, and claim the credit if it succeeds – lest Pelosi try to upstage the sitting president, which would not sit well with party circles -. Very clever Mr. Obama….. Very clever.
