McWaters takes a shot at McDonnell’s team
By Brian Kirwin | Tuesday, November 17th, 2009 | PoliticsListening to my friend JP Godsey’s radio show on 670 AM and my jaw hit the floor.
Jeff McWaters just mentioned that he was regional coordinator for Bob McDonnell, but he was the statewide head Finance person for Jerry Kilgore, and McWaters said ‘We raised 23 million dollars (for Kilgore). I don’t know how much McDonnell raised but I don’t think it was that much.’
Meow! This guy really thinks he is the man!
It gets better! Jeff now took credit for the regional transportation conversation about priorities to focus on one priority instead of six projects.
McWaters said “I said to Mayor Fraim, I said to Mayor Sessoms we need one priority.”
WOW! The mayors of Norfolk and Virginia Beach take their marching orders from Jeff McWaters.

I can’t tell. Is the McWaters for Senate Ad on Bearing Drift an endorsement of McWaters or simply his campaign placing an ad on Bearing Drift?
He bought space here. Just like the way he thinks he can buy everything in his way.
Ok now not only did he put his signs up out of cycle he’s not taken a shot a the newly elected Governor. Someone please show this johnny-come-lately the door.
Bigvinu – it’s an ad.
Totally arrogant. Just what we need in the Senate to get things done.
Want to know even more about this guy, look at VPAP and see $140,000 + he has given to Democrats and their PACs.
Then just look at the $225 million his firm had to pay WHILE HE WAS CEO because they chose to not insure poor pregnant women against federal law.
It amazes me that anyone would think this guy has the morals or ethics to represent them.
You guys are ridiculous! Don’t you have anything better to do than sit around making claims and misleading statements about decent people working hard to get elected? I do agree with hwatkins that we should look at VPAP. That way, we’ll see how he is trying to spin this — claiming that the $140K contributions were made by McWaters, when they were actually made by Amerigroup. Okay, he was CEO at the time. How many businesses do you know who don’t contribute at least a portion to both parties? Now look at the rest of the story… Amerigroup contributed far more (almost $500K) to Republicans. No matter how you guys try to smear McWaters, the facts don’t support your claims, just as they don’t support Kerwin’s ridiculous claim that McWaters was “taking a shot” at the McDonnell campaign. That makes two recent posts by Kerwin that clearly demonstrate his bias and his weak attempts to spin a story the way he’d like it to be, rather than telling it as it is. Is that what BD is about? A venue for writing any negative thing, true or not, about other Republicans? No thanks!
Yikes, Susan. The question is don’t you have anything better to do?
Thought the paycheck would give ya some thicker skin….
James,
So McWaters advertising on Bearing Drift indicates that he thinks he can buy the race? If Rosemary Wilson also had an ad on Bearing Drift I doubt you would be saying the same thing. That’s just smart campaiging. Jeff is not buying the race, he working hard like every other candidate. He’s done an amazing door-to-door effort and has made grassroots a priority in his campaign. You don’t have to like him, and heck, you don’t have to vote for him, but don’t demonize him and make stupid comments like “he’s buying the race” because he purchased an ad on a popular political blog like any smart candidate would do.
Brian,
We all know your feelings about McWaters but Bearing Drift is doing its readers a disservice by only representing one person’s point of view about these races, the state senate seat and the 2nd district race in particular. It’s supposed to be “Virginia Politics On Demand” and what we’re really getting is your negative opinions of Jeff McWaters and others. Bearing Drift can and should be more than that. I get that you want to stir the pot, that’s fine. But at least have other people contributing on here that stir the pot the other way. Things have gotten way out of balance here and that’s a shame.
Things have gotten out of balance because Kirwin is taking checks from Rosemary’s consultants. I could be wrong, but I see no other way Kirwin would be supporting a candidate stolen from him by consultants he hates. You can ban me for that comment, I don’t care, I gotta disappear in 12 days anyway.
The problem here with Jeff McWaters is this… the man lacks any moral courage whatsoever.
As CEO he is 100% responsible for his company and its actions.
* His company illegally denied benefits to pregnant women
* His company substantially supported Democrat candidates (Mark Warner being one of them.
* His company denies needed medical services to families with children suffering with Autism.
Say what you want about good business or whatever, these are all things he could control as CEO. These are choices he makes choices that show his character and his leadership and his MORAL COURAGE. He made his choices though and chose the easy path and shirked off any sense of MORAL COURAGE. Do we need one more person in Richmond that will not choose the path of integrity, the path of courage. What will Jeff do when faced with the money lined pockets of the lobbyists in Richmond? I submit to you that the man is nothing less than a coward.
What else has he done?
I’m really curious to see how man abortions that his company paid for during his tenure as CEO.
Reid S., I don’t control what other contributors write. JR had a podcast with McWaters that was 100% positive. Did you listen to it?
Max, your comment says more about you than it does about me.
Reid, I said nothing about Jeff not working hard, you did. I said nothing about Rosemary, you did. I said nothing about what smart campaigning is, you did.
Jeff’s M.O. has been to pay for anything and everything he can, and he has a ton of money. It does not mean he is by any stretch of the imagination the best candidate, but he is the best funded candidate. Make all the assumptions you want to about what I say, but please don’t take what I say out of context.
I am not demonizing him, just pointing out the obvious.
Bearing Drift used to be a good place for information now it is just a desperate atack site aimed at Jeff McWaters and Scott Rigell. Join me in Supporting Jeff McWaters. http://www.jeffmcwaters.com
James, come on. You direct quote was “He bought space here. Just like the way he thinks he can buy everything in his way.”
I didn’t take your quote out of context at all. You are saying that him purchasing an ad on BD indicates that he thinks he can buy the seat. That is ridiculous and far from the truth, evidenced by all the hard work Jeff has been putting into the race.
And yes, I brought up Rosemary because I think it’s a valid point. Would you have the same reaction if she purchased an ad here?
She has not purchased an ad here, so it’s a moot point. Purchasing an ad is not hard work.
Again, I said nothing about how hard he was working, I will.
Showing up to events is not hard work… he pays walkers, phone bankers and a plethora of campaign satff to do the leg work for him.
I think he is arrogant and thinks his money will get him by. He has openly supported Democrats AND tax increases, I have not seen him in public until he wanted to increase his prestige with this seat.
I at least deserve to know what the man stands for, and between the information I have seen and read, and the information he has stated, I honestly don’t know what he believes.
Brian,
I was thinking the same thing about what you say everyday…as in saying more about you personally than the BS you try and drudge up on other people…
See, Max. Imitating me will take you far!
James,
What he believes in is whatever will get him elected! He has supported the far left (DC Mayor Anthony Williams) and the fringe right (VBTA). He is all over the place, says he is better than our new governor and is arrogant to boot.
We won’t even go into the questionable and illegal practices his company engaged in while he was CEO.
Like Wilson or not, she is the ONLY choice.
Lee,
You have sources on that? I might have to change my vote…
Just this morning, I stood there as Jeff actually declared, to a REPUBLICAN crowd that healthcare is a RIGHT! I am not sure how long I was in a coma, but I don’t remember an amendment getting passed declaring healthcare a right. Jessie Jackson JR. made the same claim at a “town meeting” at a church not too long ago. Healthcare is a responsibility, an individualy responsibility. There are already government programs set up to provide heatlhcare to the needy. We don’t need yet another tax so that dead beats can reap yet another benefit.
Jason,
“Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”
You have the right to live, therefore you have the right to healthcare. I wasn’t there, did he say you have the right to FREE healthcare? I doubt it. Healthcare is a right, free healthcare is not. There is a big difference.
Brian,
Politics has been paying my bills for going on 2 years now, so I guess I have gotten pretty far, but its been by doing the exact opposite of what people like you do. How many 20 year olds can say that?
Max,
Please, don’t try and play smoke and mirrors with everyone. Everyone DOES have access to healthcare right now. There are some that sincerely cannot afford it and yes, we can do something about that. However, Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness?? Come on, don’t try to wiggle healthcare into it. We all know that government mandated healthcare is a very liberal, left agenda item and it is a fact that Jeff has made his millions on it. We cannot afford to have a state legislator that has any connection to possibly profitting on the expansion of government. Healthcare needs reform, absolutely. However, not with any chance that it could cost us all more in taxes. We need to start holding people more accountable for their actions. If they would rather spend their money on fancy cars, expensive clothes, etc… vice health insurance premiumn, then lets start taking them out of these exaggerated numbers of uninsured.
Max has been doing the exact opposite? I guess he means losing every race he’s been a part of.
Smoke and mirrors? Healthcare is a right, free healthcare is not. I never said people don’t have access, you just said healthcare wasnt a right when it clearly is. Free healthcare is not, choose your words more carefully or stop complaining when you get called out.
As for Master Chief, yep, we lost, but I’d love to see you do better with 20grand in a district that is the most gerrymandered in the state. Leo Wardrup specifically drew it to throw everyone he didn’t want into one place. We went to people who thought Republicans were devils and showed them that we were real people who cared. We did more for the GOP’s image than any other local campaign (except Jen Lee) and that is indisputable. All the negativity in every campaign we won just makes us look like assholes. I can walk through the projects anytime and get mad respect. People like you would get shot on the spot.
