I ventured to Applebee's today for the free entree. More because I happen to enjoy being in a room filled with Veterans. There was a 30 minute wait and the Hostess asked if it would be OK to seat me with another Veteran. Normally, I would say no. Veterans, hell yes.

I was fortunate to be seated with Powhatan Red Cloud-Owen (google him, neat story), a Vietnam Vet, two Purple Hearts and a fantastic advocate for Native Americans. He spoke at VMI last week and is an absolutely fascinating gentleman.

Thanks, Applebee's for the invite.

And my respect and admiration for those currently serving. We appreciate you.

Today I honor my Dad (Vietnam Vet) and maternal Grandfather (WW2 Pacific Vet), but particularly remember my paternal Grandfather, Graydon Thomas, WW1 vet with a PH buried in Arlington National Cemetery. After his release, he married, started several businesses and actually wound up raising 5 children on his own after the age of 50. Amazing guy, family hero and a reminder of the value of sacrifice.
