Victory in Fluvanna County
By | Thursday, November 5th, 2009 | Politics

Tuesday was not just another day to celebrate a statewide victory, but it was a day to celebrate local victories as well. Residents in Fluvanna County’s Columbia District elected Shaun Kenney as their next supervisor. This also marks the first Jeffersoniad and Bearing Drift member elected to office.

Kenney won the election, 51-48 percent, against a former Sarbanes staffer.

Also, I would like to commend another Jeffersoniad blogger in his first run for office. D.J. McGuire ran for Lee Hill Supervisor in Spotsylvania County. Although he didn’t win, he definitely ran a great campaign focusing on fiscal accountability in Spotsylvania County.

2 precincts. Seriously? Virginia has too many of these tiny counties. Counties were drawn in the age of horse and buggies so that a person could get to the courthouse and back home in one day. How ridiculous does that sound in 2009? Tiny counties means we waste millions, tens of millions on overhead. Too many sheriffs, revenue commissioners, treasurers, county managers and their deputies and so on and so on. Shaun, if you’re serious about fiscal responsibility, try to merge your county with a couple others and massively reduce overhead, and taxes!

    Mitch,
That doesn’t take away from the fact that Shaun won…and we’re all very proud of him for doing so.

I also want to commend DJ who ran a great and tough race in Spotsylvania.
