Sleep Well, Republicans
By Chris | Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 | PoliticsSo, that’s what winning feels like.
It had been a while since Virginia’s Republicans had something to celebrate, but tonight we made up for lost time. Congratulations to the outstanding team of Bob McDonnell, Bill Bolling and Ken Cuccinelli. Congratulations to all of the re-elected Republican Delegates and a special congrats to all of the NEW Republican members of the Virginia House of Delegates.
While there will be plenty of time for analysis and Monday-morning quarterbacking in the days to come, Virginia’s Republicans can sleep well tonight knowing that our Party is very much alive and kicking in the Commonwealth. In just twelve short months, thanks largely to the outstanding leadership at the top of the ticket, the GOP has turned an embarrassing rout in 2008 into a 180 degree turn back to the Republicans in 2009.
Just remember folks, getting elected is the easy part. The hard work of governing begins when we awake tomorrow morning. I’m just glad that it’s Bob McDonnell who will be leading that charge over the next four years.

NY 23 canceled out everything…
From Fairfax, allow me to say well-done to my friends in Virginia Beach for apparently sending us two new delegates along with the two new Fairfax members.
Dan, NY23 cancels nothing. It had to be done, win lose or draw. A stand had to be taken against the way the candidate selection went down, and about what an absolute disaster the candidate was in terms of even being a Republican.
Not happy we lost, but feel better about fighting the good fight.
Here on the peninsula it was bittersweet – huge wins statewide and for Oder, but Hamilton’s loss put a bit of a damper on things, however, it was still over all a GREAT night to be a Republican!
Congratulations to you all. While I did not vote a complete Democratic ticket, I heavily supported the top (Creigh Deeds) and many of my votes were influenced by the top of the ticket.
Now let us see if Bob McDonnell is any more successful in bridging the partisan divide then Tim Kaine was. Last time we saw success was with Mark Warner.
I am not holding my breath and hope I do not end up having to hold my nose.
