Bearing Drift House of Delegate Breakdowns – Part II (Republican Pickups/Wins)
Continuing from Part I (some people may not have realized that Part I was only Cakewalks, no challengers and Toss Ups)
Part I Breakdown Totals:
Toss Up: 4
Republican: 30
Democrat: 21
Independent: 1
Republican Pickups:
3rd
Daniel Bowling* (D) vs Will Morefield* (R)
Morefield hasn’t received much press in mainstream (i.e. Hampton Roads/NoVa) circles, but is on the verge of knocking out an incumbent in southwestern Virginia. Also has by FAR the best campaign video this cycle from any candidate (should have won the Berry!)
23rd
Shannon Valentine* (D) vs Scott Garrett (R)
Liberty University registered over 1500 additional voters; the majority will be Republican voters. Given McDonnell’s popularity on campus, the town and campus split evenly. The additional voters should push Garrett over the top.
34th
Margi Vanderhye* (D) vs Barbara Comstock* (R)
Comstock has run a tight ship in a split district; given the headwinds coming down ticket along with Comstock’s performance this cycle, 34th falls.
51st
Paul Nichols* (D) vs Rich Anderson (R)
Nichols has been running uphill against Creigh Deeds; news of a police skirmish in North Carolina in 2007, while shaky, did nothing to help. Desperation has continued from the Nichols camp; Anderson remains approve the fray and should take this when the dust settles.
67th
Chuck Caputo* (D) vs Jim LeMunyon (R)
Caputo has come off as a negative crank; grouped with Creigh Deeds, this seat is gone for Dems.
83rd
Joe Bouchard* (D) vs Chris Stolle (R)
Given the political climate Bouchard would have had a tough time retaining this seat regardless. Add in his shameful and blatantly false campaign ads, this race has been over for weeks. Good as gone.
Totals: 6 Republican Pickups

73rd
John O’Bannon* (R) vs Tom Shields (D)
82nd
Bob Purkey* (R) vs Peter Schmidt (D)
86th
Tom Rust* (R) vs Stevens Miller
Another tough race, but will emerge for Republicans.
93rd
Phil Hamilton* (R) vs Robin Abbott (D)
Democrats around the state, not in Hampton Roads, seem to think this race normally would be in play. Reality, this race has been over since September; Abbott is a horrendous candidate and has run the race you would expect from such.
94th
Glenn Oder* (R) vs Gary West(D)
Totals: 21 Republican Seats
