Virginian-Pilot endorsements – Hooey
By Brian Kirwin | Saturday, October 24th, 2009 | Politics“First of all, we’re not telling you how to vote.” (Virginian-Pilot)
That’s what Editorial chief Don Luzzatto wrote Friday about the upcoming Virginian-Pilot endorsements.
Haw Haw Haw! A few examples of why that’s hooey.
“Disappointment in both Miller’s past and in Giffin’s potential makes it hard for us to summon the conviction necessary to make a heartfelt recommendation in this race.” (Recommendation?)
“we recommend former Vice Mayor Will Sessoms.” (Who are you “recommending” to if not voters, Don?)
“Voters should express their gratitude by re-electing him to represent the Centerville district.” (Not telling people how to vote, huh?)
Any quick read of recent endorsements shows very well the Pilot editorial writers are telling voters how they should vote, not merely “encouraging substantive debate” like your column tried to spin, Don.
Perhaps Don’s column is a realization that while the mainstream press would like to be able to tell people how to vote, how to think about tax increases, how to support unending government expansion and spending, how to bash Republicans and swoon over any Democrat who musters the intellectual energy to fill out a Declaration of Candidacy, they really can’t do it.
Especially this week when their coming cavalcade of cluelessness endorses a long list of liberal losers destined for footnotes of electoral history, a categorization that the Virginian-Pilot is becoming dangerously close to joining.

About the author
The right wants to jeer him. The left wants to censor him. Moderates usually want both. Brian Kirwin is a political consultant and public relations strategist in Virginia Beach with a lightning-rod flair. Brian also serves on the VB Arts & Humanities Commission and frequently appears on Hampton Roads theatrical stages, if only to prove that all actors aren’t liberals. Kirwin’s columns stir up debate and hit the political scene with no punches pulled.

Don Lazzatto, or any of the other losers that preceded him, are all liberal wannabe politocos. Lazzatto led the charge to endorse one of Linda Johnson’s opponents in last year’s Suffolk mayor’s race. The guy got, like, 9% of the vote. These Pilot editors are perpetual, eventual big government, high tax, more spend, liberals. Pure and simple.
Even if they endorse McDonnell, big deal, they know he’s going to win, so why not so they have a GOP candidate to point to once every four years.
Re the inane editorial by Don Luzzatto. Just remember what the education level is that the “mainstream media” are writing for.
Thank goodness for the WSJ and Fox.
