Joe Bouchard – When in a hole, keep digging
By | Thursday, October 22nd, 2009 | Politics

Del. Joe Bouchard, obviously desperate to keep his seat, ran one of the most despicable ads in Virginia political history. One account of the ad said:

When one does more research, one finds that this particular hospital has a neonatal intensive care unit, which serves a higher percentage of sick newborns than other facilities. That means more might not make it. And this fact makes Joe Bouchard, his campaign and this ad a pathetic example of what the DPVA is putting out there this cycle.

So what does joe do? He launches a TV ad defending his first ad. Letters are streaming into the Virginian-Pilot decrying Bouchard’s lame ads.

Heck, I was laughing myself through a nice lunch at the CBDA debate this week when Joe Bouchard called himself a fiscal conservative who voted against tax increases. He then said he looked forward to campaigning with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, and that the world will end in 2012 at a theater near you. (ok, maybe not all that, but it would be more believable than his “anti-tax” lies).

Someone should remind Joe of the GIANT tax increases he voted for in 2008, especially during the special session when he voted for regional taxes.

In fact, all the Democrats had their “we know we’re losing” face on during the debate. Bobby Mathieson complained that the City Council didn’t support him, and the FOP didn’t support him. In fact, if not for the constraints of time, Mathieson may have been able to list everyone who doesn’t support him, but that would’ve left no time for anyone else.

Peter Schmidt led with his issue that we should raise gas taxes and stop complaining and ante up, and eat more fiber. The fiber part I made up, but although it takes a certain amount of chutzpah to campaign on an issue opposed by 69% of Virginia voters (and probably more in the 82nd district), it’s no electoral victory strategy.

Meanwhile Bob Purkey, Ron Villanueva and Chris Stolle were unified in opposing taxes, wasteful spending and all the negative ads that are being run against them by the candidates who said they don’t like negative campaigning.

Except for Joe Bouchard. I don’t remember him saying anything about negative ads at all.

Except maybe ‘one more and make it a double’
