A “new” voice for Virginia?
By | Wednesday, October 7th, 2009 | Politics

Krystal Ball would like to be the Democratic nominee for Congress in the first congressional district.

She’s young, energetic, a mom, but with precious little experience in anything related to government (of course, this could be a plus).

She also says that she would be a “fresh voice for Virginia”.

So, where is she going to raise money for her campaign?

New York.

According to her campaign:

“We have planned for you something spectacular, fun, musical, whimsical and filled with puppets in New York City on Thursday, October 15, 2009. We’ve rented out the entire production of the hit Tony Award-winning Broadway Musical Avenue Q!”

Sounds like fun fund-raising in the Big Apple.

Update: Riley talks about how this might have financial implications for Ball’s campaign if she doesn’t see the tickets and NRO’s Geraghty also pokes some fun at her name.

Is her next release an endorsement from Snuffleupagus?

    Also, Avenue Q

The characters additionally use profanity in their dialogue (both spoken and sung), and the songs concern adult themes such as sexual intercourse and drugs. A recurring theme is the central character’s search for a “purpose”.

    Great fundraising material.

Perhaps she’s trying to be the next Tom Perriello. Of course, I don’t think that will play so well in 2010, not even for Perriello.

*baffeled* Now why, if she’s running for office in Virginia, is she having a fund raiser in New York???? That seems extremely illogical to me. Plus, ew, the show’s description hardly lends itself to promoting an image of competence and seriousness to her campaign.

Wow. Crazy times, my friends; we are living in some seriously CRAZY times!

Kat: Have you been following the Gov race in Virginia? Both candidates are raising alot of money outside Virginia. Not so crazy now is it?

Running for Governor of a whole state while also being one of only two games in the nation this year is different than running for House of Reps in one of hundreds of seats nationwide. This looks like one of her first big fundraising things and it’s in NYC? She’s not even bussing people there!

Actually her biggest problem is she is running in the first, a district the Dems could not take with a halfway decent candidate, Barack Obama on the ballot, and a larger turnout then ever before. This makes it highly unlikely that the seat can be taken in an off year election and with public sentiment turning against her party more every day. Also, with the Dems having to defend Blue Dog seats against Republican challengers financing for long shot races will be slim – I would advise her to wait a few years until people forget why they don’t like Democrats, right now they are well aware.

    Govgirl,
I couldn’t agree with you more.

Mrs. Ball already shows she possesses some savvy by not including hardly any indication of party affiliation on her web site. Plus, I can’t say I personally find her policies all that objectionable.

Perhaps she should run for an office a bit more attainable…or gain some experience within her community and wait.

However, one thing is for sure, she now has some name recognition.

Yes, she does have name recognition.
