New ads focus on policy and social issues
By JR Hoeft | Friday, October 2nd, 2009 | Catch-AllAs support for abortion rights has slipped to below 47%, as he’s trailing in the polls by 14 points – despite trying to hammer McDonnell for the thesis, as even the DNC is contemplating where to spend $5 million and states Virginia is nowhere near being blue, Deeds decides to go against what the people are saying matters most to them (transportation and taxes) and focus on, you guessed it, social issues.
The latest Deeds attack ad basically criticizes McDonnell for government 101. In a press release from the Deeds campaign, they proudly state:
In the ad, McDonnell addresses the 2008 National Right to Life Committee, telling them “elections determine who’s got the power.” McDonnell continues that “those policy makers with the votes determine whether or not we’re going to have a Pro-Life state”
And the problem with this is?
Yes…the person who gets elected gets to make policy decisions. McDonnell is pro-life. So he will make pro-life policy decisions. Next.
I mean, seriously, is this a surprise to anyone? Is this supposed to shock the audience? What is the Deeds camp thinking…especially, as I wrote in the lead, that support for abortion has now dipped below 47%.
Great, Creigh, you sewed-up 47% of the vote. Congratulations on finishing second.
Of course, I would be remiss if I did not talk about McDonnell’s ads that were released today.
Not only did he spike Deeds’ assertion that McDonnell is anti-working woman:
But McDonnell also focused again on taxes. As the Rasmussen poll bears out:
By a 51% to 36% margin, voters trust the GOP candidate more on the tax issue…..
By a 45% to 32% margin, voters now trust McDonnell more than Deeds on the issue of transportation. Previous surveys had found voters evenly divided on the topic.
One of these weeks Deeds might understand it’s time to start talking about issues that matter to Virginians. Until that time happens, I’ll gladly watch his campaign implode.

Aargh! You beat me to it! Was just going to post on the new ads.
On the new Deeds ad you can almost see the film of flop sweat. Out of focus people meander through an audio forest of anxiety music. Tiny quotation snippets from the Washington Post erupt and disappear.
The McDonnell “Trust” ad, on the other hand, shows women who have worked for and with McDonnell, with their names, speaking right to the camera.
Great contrast in these ads: one campaign is out of focus; the other is succeeding in speaking to people.
do u think all the ads about McDonnell taking away school funding is gonna effect his lead?
Deeds has many proposals to take away school funding. His website is full of new spending with no new revenue. That must mean he’s raiding school funding.
In fact, Deeds promised to “zero-base” budget schools.
i see kinda off subject but how come you and the crew weren’t on What Matters in Sept? unless i missed it.
We go when we’re invited. They’ve asked us to appear immediately after the elections. Read into that what you’d like.
lol, well obviously, you and Vivian would get along so well j/k
(seriously i can tell yall are cool with each other)
Thank for your interest and your comments. There are two kinds of political activists. Some are professional, and can play a hard-hitting smashmouth game against each other, and then go have a beer afterwards.
Then there are others who take things so personally that they truly hate the opposition.
I count myself among the first group, and I count Vivian in that group, too, and I laugh at a lot of the people in the second one.
that’s good. hopefully those in the GA will start thinking like that
Actually, I think there are many in the GA who DO think like that…of course, two that I know were like that just left the assembly: Chris Saxman and Kris Amundson.
If you voice an opinion too against gay marriage, Vivian will not drink that beer with you.
