Rasmussen poll puts McDonnell up 9; 7 point swing
By JR Hoeft | Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 | PoliticsIt appears that Virginians are back to thinking about issues again, such as transportation and taxation. And on these two issues, McDonnell has gained traction and is clobbering Deeds again.
From Rasmussen:
Over the past two weeks, McDonnell’s support has gone up three percentage points while Deeds has lost four points. After closing to essentially a toss-up in mid-September, the race is back to where it was in early September, when the GOP hopeful held a nine-point advantage….
By a 51% to 36% margin, voters trust the GOP candidate more on the tax issue…..
By a 45% to 32% margin, voters now trust McDonnell more than Deeds on the issue of transportation. Previous surveys had found voters evenly divided on the topic.
Can you blame folks for thinking that way when a candidate sounds like this:
Over at TQ, Norm writes:
But again, it’s the independents that are the big prize — and McDonnell is winning them handily, 62-22 (with leaners). Without leaners, the numbers are 55-21, with the undecideds going toward McDonnell.
McDonnell’s winning on issues and winning among independents. Not a good sign for Team Deeds.
Which includes Unions.
Today, the Washington Times wrote:
“Throughout the state, observers agree that he is running a flatly dishonest advertising campaign that discredits his own claim to be worthy of the office.”
And how does he pay for it?
Try $1.9 million from labor…which includes $400K just today from AFSCME.
Looks like we’re in for a rough month of negative ads and dishonesty from the man who once said:
“We have to change the tone of the debate and put a stop to the endless bickering and gamesmanship that’s come to define politics.”
Of course, it could be worse. Apparently the Democratic National Committee doesn’t like to waste its money. Chris Graham, chairman of the Waynesboro Democratic Committee writes:
“The bad poll news comes on the heels of a story circulating in Democratic circles today that the Democratic National Committee is reportedly holding on to its $5 million financial commitment to the Deeds campaign out of concern that the Deeds campaign has focused too much of its attention on the controversial Bob McDonnell 1989 grad-school thesis setting out a hardline social-conservative political agenda for his budding political career and not enough on putting down a framework for what a Deeds administration would do for Virginia.”

And then the RPV mails out a flyer with Deeds picture plastered all over it. I assumed it was a Deeds advertisement, as it was going into the trash, until I actually started to read what it said. How many others thought the same thing?
And your comment has pertinence to this thread because….?
You should save it for our next post on the campaign tactic Deeds is getting ready to use. It’ll make more sense on that one.
