Weekend Virginia: Uranium Mining
By JR Hoeft | Sunday, September 27th, 2009 | Catch-AllWaldo and I discuss Uranium Mining at the Coles’ Hill proposed site in Pittsylvania County on Weekend Virginia. I talk about how this is a statewide issue. Waldo seems to focus on those who live in the area. We both are interested in the outcome of the current 18-month study being conducted.

Well, you may have helped yourself with your input on WVTF’s Weekend in Virginia but you were short on facts re: the proposed uranium mining in VA and the study.
The mining will only begin in Pittsylvania Co…it will take place all up and down the 2 main uranium corridors that stretch almost the entire length of Virginia. Coles Hill will be the 1st mine but certainly not the only mine. Here is a map showing the corridors: http://sccagainsturanium.blogspot.com/2009/09/its-no-big-deal-who-pays-for-uranium.html
The study has NOT begun. The request for the study has been received but the NAS and the NRC have not accepted it. Their board must examine the proposal and then decide whether to accept or decline it. http://sccagainsturanium.blogspot.com/2009/09/national-research-council-agrees-to.html
Phase One of the study has been estimated at taking 18-24 months. Phase Two hasn’t been discussed yet. And no one’s been selected to do Phase Two.
The NAS is NOT above reproach. http://sccagainsturanium.blogspot.com/2009/09/ensuring-independence-and-objectivity.html
These corrections are just for starters. You might want to bone up on the facts before you go public again on the subject of uranium mining in VA.
Thanks…
I think my sources are fine.
And I appreciate your adding to the discussion.
Nothing of what you contributed from Southside Concerned Citizens, an opposition group to mining, really says anything contrary to what I said in the interview.
For starters, I did say that this would affect all of Virginia.
Second, I did say that this was just the beginning of the process.
And, third, I said that I would reserve judgment until the study was completed.
Sort of looks like you wanted to use my blog as a platform for your organization – or an organization you support – and didn’t bother to listen to the interview.
JR, some of the labels on the blog he cites are “nuclear accident,” “offshore drilling,” “Three Mile Island,” “contamination” (with a whopping 122 articles compared to “Jobs” which has 2), and “Chernobyl.”
A completely unbiased source for information there.
