Less hope for change
By Brian Kirwin | Saturday, September 26th, 2009 | PolicyYou’d think with President Obama having both Houses of Congress firmly in the D column, he’d be able to keep a promise or two. Obama opposed Hillary Clinton’s “play or pay” fines for health care during the campaign, but he loves them now. Promises to keep unemployment under 8% if only we went further into debt? Gone with the Wind.
Closing Gitmo and bringing terrorists to places like Virginia? Well, doesn’t look like it’s gonna happen any time soon. What’s the problem? Why can’t he do what he promised about Guantanamo Bay prison?
Quite frankly, nobody wants the terrorists in their neighborhoods. Officials float a location to host “trials” like Newport News, Virginia or Alexandria, Virginia. What happens? BAM! Democrats become as popular as Ronald McDonald at a PETA convention.
Maybe one of these days someone is going to replay the debates or campaign speeches Obama gave last year, then have a roundtable discussion with newspaper editorial writers and hosted by Congressman Joe Wilson.
I’d watch.

Kirwin’s columns stir up debate and hit the political scene with no punches pulled.
