About the author

Brian Kirwin

The right wants to jeer him. The left wants to censor him. Moderates usually want both. Brian Kirwin is a political consultant and public relations strategist in Virginia Beach with a lightning-rod flair. Brian also serves on the VB Arts & Humanities Commission and frequently appears on Hampton Roads theatrical stages, if only to prove that all actors aren’t liberals. Kirwin’s columns stir up debate and hit the political scene with no punches pulled.

although I did not agree with most of his politics I can respect a man who was passionate about his work and fellow man. I only hope his death is not used for political ends.

I agree, Amit. Today is a day to remove partisan hats.

Kennedy did more harm to America with his Socialist/Statist agenda, promotion of abortion and covering for virtually every Communist dictatorship in the 70s and 80s than virtually anyone over the last 30 years.

Now, you Democrats and liberals want to use his passing to do even more harm by naming Health Care “reform” for him … and who knows what else.

He did enough harm when alive. No more after he is dead.

And spare us demanding we give tears and tissues that you would never give to the unborn or the girl he drowned.

I guess “Not Russ” has had too much coffee this morning…

    RIP Ted

For the record, …….when Michael Jackson died, I didn’t hold his political preferences(whatever they were) against him.

That didn’t mean I wanted the mainstream media to force me to worship at his altar. Same goes for Ted Kennedy.

I am going to take a rare opportunity to voice my opinion as allowed me by J.R.

While I was often condemnatory of Ted Kennedy, I think it is appropriate that we allow him to rest in peace. Now that he is dead, he no longer has the opportunity to speak for himself. Do you enjoy debating with a dead man?

I suspect Mary Jo is giving him a piece of her mind about now. There is nothing to admire about Ted Kennedy. He is/was a piece of shit in every sense of the word. There is no way to gloss over his bad acts, which were many. He was a poster child for term limits and he didn’t’ even have the good sense to resign when he was sick. How vain – “There’s just no way the country could go on without me…” Pluis he admired too many damn tyrants around the world. Good riddance and RIP, Teddy.

Have to wonder about people who must say nasty things about the dead! Says more about them, and their lack of civility than the object of their hatred. Funny how McCain and many other “conservatives” thought so highly of Kennedy, yet the sideline rock throwers hated him with such a vengence.

We can only hope that when these haters, these people who lack any class or social grace whatsoever, when they die, they are treated as respectfully as they have treated Kennedy.

    He’s dead, let it go!

Did I agree with Kennedy? Not about a thing. But to take this opportunity to attack him, from an anonymous post, is so cowardly, that I’m surprised Bearing Drift allows it. No accounting for cowardice huh?

M.C., while I agree you can voice disaproval without being quite so nasty, I’m not as bothered by it in this instance. Not because he made problems for those of us opposed to socialism. I’m sure he did some good things. McCain being quite the liberal Republican would of course get along with ‘ol Teddy. Ted obviously had a tight relationship with Biden. He was their colleague.

However, I have to wonder what Mary Jo Kopechne’s family must be thinking as they are bombarded by the media telling them how Ted was such wonderful man. In their minds, they are seeing their daughter’s murderer being cannonized before them. I can understand other people not wanting to have to listen about how great he was or that now we just “have to” pass socialized medicine in Teddy’s honor.

Is Ted the only one deserving of sympathy and justice? Its just a little hard for me to get too upset at the guys taking things a little too far. After all, Ted isn’t the only person that is dead now. Just ask the Kopechne family. What? Some dead deserve respect from the media and others don’t?
