Washington Post: McDonnell up 15
By | Sunday, August 16th, 2009 | Politics

Yet another poll confirms that McDonnell is up by 15.

The Washington Post reported today that McDonnell has that advantage over Deeds among likely voters, while his lead amongst registered voters is less stratospheric – at 7.

What does this say?

Well, for one, it say that Deeds traipsing around the Commonwealth condemning McDonnell’s abortion stance went largely unheeded. People want to talk about issues relating to their healthcare and finances. Abortion, while a major issue, is not the issue this campaign.

Second, despite having Obama campaign for him this week, Deeds did not get much of a bounce. In a state that carried for the Democrats and Obama for the first time since 1964, that era of good feeling for the president seems to be gone in the Commonwealth.

Third, Deeds has to drive up McDonnell’s negatives, so he is probably going to throw everything but the kitchen sink at McDonnell. Will he abide by his promise of running a positive campaign?

Shaun Kenney has more on the poll and the questions.
