Conservative Punk: Meghan McCain’s Straw Man
By | Tuesday, August 11th, 2009 | Catch-All

This dissection of Miss McCain could describe most dissent within the GOP:

In the end, it’s not her beliefs that make Meghan so unattractive as a leading Republican voice, it’s her complete lack of substance. A brief look at the comment section of any one of her Daily Beast articles would tell you that even her readers understand that the droll she commits to writing is generally empty, purposeless, and boring. Her only message seems to be, “look at me, I think I’m an atypical Republican.”

My guess is that Meghan is smart enough to know this, but unwilling to confront it. Until she does, Conservatives and moderate Republicans alike will fail to view her as anything other than the spoiled, vacuous daughter of a former presidential candidate. Being attractive and having Thousands of twitter followers might make you popular, but it in no way lends gravity to what you say.

Brutal, but undeniably true — and goes for about 95% of the Twitterati as well.  Popularity is not gravitas.

What flustrates me with Meghan McCain is that she seems to relish the concept of a GOP civil war. There are other (though not most) moderate Republicans who also take this viewpoint.

Hostile moderate GOPers would be more welcomed within the party at large if they would accept the fact that the Republican principles do not necessarily line up with theirs. By virtue of being moderates their views are not going to always be represented. Instead of always trying to “change the party,” they could work to advance as many aspects of GOP as their concience allows.

This must have been conveyed to Sarah Spice just before she quit her job. Too bad no one in the GOP camp had the gravitas to say it outloud when McCain picked her. (On a personal note, i never found Sarah attractive. Extreme wingnuttia makes anyone quite unattractive.)

The funny thing about Baby McCain’s twitter count rant was that she was taking it to the female titular heads of the GOP wingbase… Malkin, Coulter, and Ingraham. Frankly, if the GOP wanted to do themselves a favor, they’d agree with babs on this one.

    Meghan who?

And why were you reading her silly “look at me” crap to begin with?
